What people seem to forget is that De Gea, when initially signed from Athletico Madrid, was actually quite good with the ball at his feet compared to most keepers at the time (except Neuer), since we were trying to replace Van der Sar, who himself was a very good ball-playing goalie, and had realized after the calamitous Ben Foster that we needed a good ball-playing keeper. However, with all post-Fergie managers (except Van Gaal) preferring less possession play and more defensive/counter-attacking play, and with the general quality of play ahead of De Gea becoming poorer and poorer, De Gea had to use his ball-playing abilities less and less, and focus more in his shot-stopping, which I feel resulted in the ball-playing aspect of his skills not developing in the same manner as his other skills. Read a comment saying that this video had a horrendous timing, with De Gea's distribution of the ball improving. Come the Sevilla match in the Europa League, this video proves to be a fortuneteller rather than a "horrendously timed" one. De Gea, nevertheless an excellent shot stopper, must be replaced this summer with one who might suit the needs of Erik ten Hag.
He's improved big time - anyone who watches united on a daily basis has seen David De Gea pull of immense saves, whilst also actually passing the ball under pressure, something we know is not his strong spot. He's been a great servant to the club and definitely deserves the opportunity to continue. He's been fantastic this season, barring the start, which was not only exclusive to him.
On the other hand, great shot-stopping goalkeepers - such as amei Martinez and Courtois - have shown time and time again how important they are to winning crucial tight games. As a brazillian, I’ve been frustrated with Alisson’s lack of shot-stopping miracles (not saying was at fault for the losses, but he didn’t pull De Gea type miracles in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups when Brazil needed some), so I believe it’s not a style completely incompatible with a dominant side.
The problem with DDG is not just that he's not that good with the ball. The big problem is that with his astronomical wage, only a big team can afford him. And a big team generally wants modern ball playing goalkeeper. So you're basically stuck with him. That means you either play him, or pay for two starting XI keepers. None of these are good choices. A third choice is convincing him to accept a wage cut in a smaller team. I'll never understand why they keep extending his contract.
De Gea is not a problem for United to solve right now. They have much more pressing issues that need to be addressed before pondering about the GK situation. In any case, they need to bring an understudy to De Gea in the summer and let him play and acclimatise to the PL for the coming 2 seasons.
His distribution isn’t great but it has has improved slightly this season which is a good sign! But did anyone else here watch the bournemouth match? I know they’re like 18th but they would have put 3-4 past a lesser keeper yesterday. Most reliable player at the club since SAF left .
He is the last player still in the starting 11 from SAF last season. That he is still playing shows his class and Untied have bigger problems right now. They need a new Striker, the Midfield needs reinforcement and also a substitute right back for Dalot.
This comment section literally has zero ball knowledge. How can you not see the problem this guy brings to the team? He's been holding us back for years now. If ETH has any sense he shouldn't extend his contract
De gea needs a lot more respect. A legend of the club and still the best shot stopper in the world, his ball distribution is also getting better even at this stage of his career. It is a stain on the quality of goalkeeping coach/general coach over the last 10 years that this has not been developed in David de gea up until now
Although De gea is not a pure sweeper keeper, De gea was quite good with the ball. I thought Tifo had acess to De gea's stats in the early seasons. De gea only beginning to shell up because he didn't have the confidence on the def. Now that our defence is showing signs of recovering, he is getting his confidence back. Even if he isn't the best sweeper keeper, we still needs him. As our defence continued to make silly mistakes we need a pure shot stoppers for that aspect. And last night's game was prime example of that.
Hope we don't sell de Gea, there was a number of other issues at the club in those earlier periods than de Gea's build up play. In fact, in that Brentford game, his shot stopping was shocking as well, was a one-off freak game where nothing he did came out right. Since then he's definitely been up there as one of our better players, even in games where we are controlling the game he's saves have bailed us out. I agree that United need to look at recruiting a top tier SK, but it can wait til after de Gea retires. I'd hate to see us sign someone like Sanchez from Brighton (who we've been continuously linked to) because he's good with his feet, only for him to make countless mistakes (like he always does), pass the ball to the opposition (like he always does), and be a shocking shot stopper (like he is...) It's not really broken at United atm, don't fix it, just reeks of a media beat up (to that point congrats on the click bait vid I guess 😂)
A little harsh, especially considering the fact that united have much bigger issues to deal with. Also, although he is no ederson on the ball, his distribution is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.
Dortumd’s keeper was excellent against City with his feet, passing it about, composed. Then in the 2nd half when they were winning 1-0 John Stones of all people hit a shot from 20 yards straight at him, and he vanished like a ghost. Couldn’t do the basic keeper requirement. But he’s good with his feet, so…
Yeah that'd what they love hey. You can kick it all about and you'll be the best thing since sliced bread. Actaually making saves don't matter to these people
I'm sorry but this is hugely down to maguire being in front of him. Maguire is slow so doesn't have the speed to cover behind if de gea acts as a sweeper keeper. The other issue was maguire always got the ball from de gea in the box, then ran about slightly and more often than not got tackled or gave the ball away. Since maguire has been dropped, de geas distribution has improved massively
@@matthewramos4177 today vs Bournemouth 😂 come back to me in 2 weeks when they play Man City and arsenal back to back and we’ll see if De Gea helps Man Utd keep possession or will he huff it up the pitch back to the opponent 😂
Reading though the comments and people seem to think Tifo have not hit the mark here yet I have just see De Gea allow the ball straight through his legs for Evertons goal today 🤣
He has been a great servant for the club for so many years and although his ball playing ability has seen some improvement throughout this season, it is obvious that United will not be able to progress further with him in goal. Take Liverpool and their issues before Alisson. Yes, they were rather different but by getting him they not only secured their goal but got an insanse ball playing keeper to help them with. We all know where they got after that. Ten Hag needs a better gk on the ball. Once that player is in, we will see huge imporvements in their overall ability, playing from defence and press resistance. Plus, lets not forget how awful he is at stopping crosses into the box which leads to lots of dangerous situations and goals. It's time for him to leave, he will always be loved by the fans at OT
Yes it's inevitable that we are going to need to upgrade on DDG, for a more progressive keeper at some point but something that seems to never get mentioned is the "supporting cast". AWB is a pressing trigger, Maguire is calamitous and too slow for a ETH style that wants to defend at the halfway line. Lindelof is too lightweight. Shaw has a tendency to not track his runner too. It's no coincidence that DDG distribution and overall performances have improved this season with the emergence of Dalot and the solid partnership of Martinez and Varane. I remember numerous times before this season where DDG would be scared to pass it out.
@@joelroman5593 Precisely Joel, what makes it worse is the timing of it. Why would they release it after coming off a solid performance to Wolves and Bournemouth. It would have made more sense to release this video after 3 games this season where his performances dipped in comparison to last season.
I am fed up with the feeder sleeper bs. He played with brittle defenders and hence his distribution was affected. He is the goat at shot stopping and that's what important.
i mean i was a de gea outer but man he's improved these area so much compared to earlier and when faced with high xg shots one or two times he just seems to block them all off he's on fire this season and no dont take my de gea away
The video was interesting talking about goalkeeper new roles in general. When you start talking about De Gea it showed you didn't follow his last 10 matches or so where his passing was great, some difficult first time passes included. And then as a general thing this is not a De Gea problem, it is for 95% of the world goalkeepers. There are very few " Neuer" type GK in the world
His agent want him to leave in the end of the season because he wants to win trophies towards his career instead of staying in Manchester United and win nothing.
I think a lot of de gea's problem is harry maguire. If varane and martinez were fit, man utd probably win this tie. Harry calls for the ball and then stands still waiting for it to roll to him instead of moving towards it and recieving it on the half turn. Nor does he check his shoulder to see where opponents are, like you see every world class midfielder do constantly. Then he plays the ball into an opponent he doesnt know is there. If dummy maguire checked his shoulder he could have played it straight back to de gea and because 3 sevilla players were pressing maguire, passing lanes might have opened up for de gea.
Pre 2018 de gea was set to go down as arguably the keeper of this generation…however with the change in role for goalkeepers this has led to him being questioned more.
It's very simple. Do Manchester United fans want to compete at the highest level OR do we want to try do that whilst giving away control of the ball regularly in order to keep a club legend?
De Gea's sliding doors moment was definitely the summer where Real Madrid came in for him and missed the deadline with a delayed fax (who uses a fax machine in 2015?). He might/probably would have been a multiple CL winner by now plus the mainstay in goal for Spain. He's had a fairly good career but I feel that move to Madrid then would have elevated his game.
De Gea is a legend! Too many people are listening to Roy Keane and doubting him! He has saved Uniteds bacon so many times for so long. Every big keeper in the premiership has committed awful mistakes recently, but go ahead focus on De Gea.
Star GK like de gea will play better with average to poor defending. Once the defending starts to become good, most keepers tend to slack off or tend to make mistakes unconsciously. It might be the psychology of most keepers and I saw this in De Gea and United.
The trouble is finding a keeper who doesn’t crumble under the pressure of being a United keeper. This has been proven. De gea has a mentality to do the work. That’s his best attribute. That Newcastle keeper was very good before the two games he played. Pressure got to Henderson too.
Playing from a back you need a GK who is comfortable with his feet as with his hands I.e Allison and Ederson. Polar opposite of that is Chelsea’s Mendy and Kepa
Since the list of GK’s in the world that are good both on the ball and shot stopping is very short, think about this: would you pick Goalie A, who’s very good in ball distribution, but average in shot stopping? Or Goalie B, who’s average in ball distribution, but with world class shot stopping ability?
1. De Gea has the 2nd most clean sheets in the EPL. 2. United have face the 2nd least bug chances in the EPL. 3. Barring the first 2 disastrous games from the whole team, and the game vs City, United have conceded 8 goals from 14 EPL games. 4. To do this video after 3 consecutive clean sheets after the world Cup, 0 goals conceded at home since Arsenal, is just funny. I know y'all don't like Manchester United winning, it's fine.

Who’s here after his Sevilla Masterclass
This aged well.
De Gea left Manchester United
He's been getting real good at those long throws I've noticed. Past two games he's been throwing the ball like a missile into the midfield
UEFA Europa League vs Sevilla... all said.
De Gea is not a problem for United to solve right now. They have much more pressing issues that need to be addressed before pondering about the GK situation. In any case, they need to bring an understudy to De Gea in the summer and let him play and acclimatise to the PL for the coming 2 seasons.
He had a tough couple of years but he has been an unbelievable servant to the club and he's in blinding form right now.
His distribution isn’t great but it has has improved slightly this season which is a good sign! But did anyone else here watch the bournemouth match? I know they’re like 18th but they would have put 3-4 past a lesser keeper yesterday. Most reliable player at the club since SAF left .
He has improved a lot in this regard, if you didn't know it was De Gea you'd think we have signed a new GK
Clueless you mancs 😂
He is the last player still in the starting 11 from SAF last season. That he is still playing shows his class and Untied have bigger problems right now. They need a new Striker, the Midfield needs reinforcement and also a substitute right back for Dalot.
This comment section literally has zero ball knowledge. How can you not see the problem this guy brings to the team?
He's been holding us back for years now. If ETH has any sense he shouldn't extend his contract
Came back to this video after seeing Onana is a flop....and de gea still shines after sitting out for a full season
De gea needs a lot more respect. A legend of the club and still the best shot stopper in the world, his ball distribution is also getting better even at this stage of his career. It is a stain on the quality of goalkeeping coach/general coach over the last 10 years that this has not been developed in David de gea up until now
Tbh I see no problem lately. He's back in top form, and his distribution improves.
David is playing very well this season, he has confidence, he is growing every single game and he fits in the squad, he has to stay at MU.
I don’t even want to watch this video of yours, because I don’t know if we watch the same De Gea.
everyone in comments know better now 😂😂😂
Although De gea is not a pure sweeper keeper, De gea was quite good with the ball.
Nothing againts DDG. He will always be a legend. Just that times are changing and he is a great Blackberry phone in a smartphone world.
True
Good analogy.
After the Arsenal game this video is absolutely spot on
One game. My goodness
@@davidolajide3707 How about now, after Seville and West Ham?
@@hariaran8910 nope plus he's getting another contract. Most clean sheets in the league
@@davidolajide3707L can't even find a club 😂😂
Wow, a man carries a team last season, adapts to modern goalkeeping this season, yet still criticised unrightly because playing favourites is easy.
the only DDG issue is that he's being paid too much and that's not even his fault
Don't blame him, he has to play against the GOAT Harry Maguire and he doesn't miss.
But he’s good with his feet, so…
He literally came from the 2.bundesliga and had no prior elite football experience before
Yeah that'd what they love hey. You can kick it all about and you'll be the best thing since sliced bread. Actaually making saves don't matter to these people
So you need sweeper, good ball distribution and good shot stopper like Neuer, ter stegen, alisson Becker and ederson?
@@wrathoflichking9603 ederson isn’t a good shot stopper
Saying that like De Gea's shot stopping is even good
The man is doing well at the moment and believe he will stay consistent plus his distributions are now amazing 🔥
His distribution isn't amazing, it's below average.
Harry Maguire kept on getting clean sheets while De Gea doesn't this season.
The hate on ddg is real
No hate the game has passed him by at the top level, if Man Utd want to get back to the top they have to upgrade on De Gea.
@Ali Mohamed you clearly didn't watch him today lol didn't know the world class goal keeper Market had goalkeepers flying off the shelves
@@matthewramos4177 today vs Bournemouth 😂 come back to me in 2 weeks when they play Man City and arsenal back to back and we’ll see if De Gea helps Man Utd keep possession or will he huff it up the pitch back to the opponent 😂
seriously, tifo writers taking a huge L on this one
No hate, but the criticism is deserved
This video is 6 months late. He is adapting well and has vastly improved!
you all just watch football on spreadsheets
This video must have been made a while ago, de gea has massively improved in this regard
even so it feels like very little research was done for this video
He's not a sweeper keeper that fits in a modern gegenpressing system, pair Maguire with him and its a recipe for disaster.
🤣🤣It's hard to build up play when you have to hold your breath everytime you pass to Harry at the back
Reading though the comments and people seem to think Tifo have not hit the mark here yet I have just see De Gea allow the ball straight through his legs for Evertons goal today 🤣
Lol
Comments defending DDG when he just let himself get nutmegged against Everton in the FA Cup.
This feels like a clickbait video from tifo with very little research done otherwise they would've mentioned most of the things you've said
@@joelroman5593 Precisely Joel, what makes it worse is the timing of it. Why would they release it after coming off a solid performance to Wolves and Bournemouth. It would have made more sense to release this video after 3 games this season where his performances dipped in comparison to last season.
Who’s here after his blunder
I am fed up with the feeder sleeper bs. He played with brittle defenders and hence his distribution was affected. He is the goat at shot stopping and that's what important.
i mean i was a de gea outer but man he's improved these area so much compared to earlier and when faced with high xg shots one or two times he just seems to block them all off he's on fire this season and no dont take my de gea away
How can you upload this video after watching his recent performances especially yesterday's game ??
The video was interesting talking about goalkeeper new roles in general. When you start talking about De Gea it showed you didn't follow his last 10 matches or so where his passing was great, some difficult first time passes included. And then as a general thing this is not a De Gea problem, it is for 95% of the world goalkeepers. There are very few " Neuer" type GK in the world
Imagine, calling the BEST Keeper in the world, a "problem" 🤔🤔
This man has carried us for years.... He ain't going nowhere!!!
His agent want him to leave in the end of the season because he wants to win trophies towards his career instead of staying in Manchester United and win nothing.
@@David1991. he just renewed his contract!!! And even agreed to lower his wages!!! LOYALTY! 🤫🤫🤫
@@telikanatik5799 Where's the proof
I think a lot of de gea's problem is harry maguire. If varane and martinez were fit, man utd probably win this tie. Harry calls for the ball and then stands still waiting for it to roll to him instead of moving towards it and recieving it on the half turn. Nor does he check his shoulder to see where opponents are, like you see every world class midfielder do constantly. Then he plays the ball into an opponent he doesnt know is there. If dummy maguire checked his shoulder he could have played it straight back to de gea and because 3 sevilla players were pressing maguire, passing lanes might have opened up for de gea.
Wonder if this will ever not be relevant
We have NO problems with De Gea as our goalie. That man is a GOD and without him we prolly would've Relegated seasons ago.
The UA-cam algorithm is so cruel. It put this into my feed following De Gea's performance from last night's Sevilla match.
Pre 2018 de gea was set to go down as arguably the keeper of this generation…however with the change in role for goalkeepers this has led to him being questioned more.
These comments haven't aged well
It's very simple. Do Manchester United fans want to compete at the highest level OR do we want to try do that whilst giving away control of the ball regularly in order to keep a club legend?
here after de gea and maguire lost united the game vs sevilla
De Gea's sliding doors moment was definitely the summer where Real Madrid came in for him and missed the deadline with a delayed fax (who uses a fax machine in 2015?). He might/probably would have been a multiple CL winner by now plus the mainstay in goal for Spain. He's had a fairly good career but I feel that move to Madrid then would have elevated his game.
And PSG went interset In Him To signed Him Back around In 2019 before DDG renew the contract
It was a password protected document, it wasn't really a fax machine, that line just stuck.
Lmao this video suddenly pop out after ddg blunders vs sevilla
I think you forgot to mention that he's playing absolutely brilliantly, and has done since after the Brentford game ... short passes or not.
his ball distribution is peak now
Click bait video. It is of no surprise how well he is now that Maguire isn't playing anymore. Big Dave is having a fantastic season.
De Gea is a legend! Too many people are listening to Roy Keane and doubting him! He has saved Uniteds bacon so many times for so long. Every big keeper in the premiership has committed awful mistakes recently, but go ahead focus on De Gea.
Lmao who is here after Sevilla match ? Turns out De gea is a big problem ! Who could have known !!
This video isnt as fair as your normal videos. DdG has improved immensely this season.
Apparently Tifo has been living under a rock 😂
Star GK like de gea will play better with average to poor defending. Once the defending starts to become good, most keepers tend to slack off or tend to make mistakes unconsciously. It might be the psychology of most keepers and I saw this in De Gea and United.
Brilliant insight into the future of Uniteds problems and you got it spot on 👌 he’s gone and in comes Onana.
look How is it working out?
No way is this a real video after de geas form.
Tifo embarrassing.
De gea has been phenomenal this season and his distribution has improved levels
De gea is really a good keeper 😎
The trouble is finding a keeper who doesn’t crumble under the pressure of being a United keeper. This has been proven. De gea has a mentality to do the work. That’s his best attribute. That Newcastle keeper was very good before the two games he played. Pressure got to Henderson too.
Mentality? Like against Seville and West Ham? How did pressure get to Henderson btw?
look at the casuals in the comments looool
Playing from a back you need a GK who is comfortable with his feet as with his hands I.e Allison and Ederson. Polar opposite of that is Chelsea’s Mendy and Kepa
Since the list of GK’s in the world that are good both on the ball and shot stopping is very short, think about this: would you pick Goalie A, who’s very good in ball distribution, but average in shot stopping? Or Goalie B, who’s average in ball distribution, but with world class shot stopping ability?
Basically Ederson vs De Gea 😄
Goalie A.
Well De gea can still learn this skill set and get a nice use of it as we go on
Brilliant video 👏
Idk why but you decided to release this after one of his best performances this season, the real problem is what's wrong with tifo
