I am learning about different fibers as well and silk grows as you found out. I think you did a great job with the issues on the novice cardigan. Being in Arizona I would not recommend knitting with Alpaca - a hollow hair fiber - VERY WARM! Best to stick with a cotton silk blend with a little wool for the Una Tee. I think the cotton will keep the fabric from growing but not totally sure or a cotton wool blend. Use the alpaca in a hat or sweater not a tee. It also grows..... Lovely podcast.
I would suggest the hat being your next project. I always do small projects in the summer. They aren’t bulky when it’s hot. As for the cardigan, you will be using a different yarn. I think that will make a huge difference. Good luck.

I’m not good at recommendations, knit whatever catches your fancy how’s that? 😂 I have that crunchy audio book on hold on Libby. It’s a long wait. I’m not crunchy and don’t really aspire to be 😃 but I’m always open to making positive changes. My 21 year old daughter wants a bandana, I think I will make the one you make. Your cardigan looks great. 100+ degrees, yikes. It’s almost 90 today here in Wisconsin (and humid that’s the worst) and that’s plenty hot. 🔥 I like it though!
