Special thanks again to those guys credited above who helped with the external shots! Let me know what you think of Virgin Trains East Coast in the comments. And don’t forget, there’s plenty more train trips coming up this year, including a few really special ones. 😀
Terrific report Paul. Loved all the different film segments and snippets of background information you've researched and inserted. All is greatly appreciated and unique to your content. Thanks for sharing. Wish you enjoyable travelling ahead : )
One of the most interesting reports I have seen on You Tube, informative and especially loved the external shots of the train and background info you give. Thanks for posting it Paul, loved it !
A very professional video, Paul. Those additions that you have made since the last time you made the trip really do improve your videos. I'm also travelling Virgin East Coast First in a few months time, so it was really interesting to see what I can expect. Thanks again!
I just watched both of your KC to Newcastle vids and I must say the second one was better just because it was filmed during the day and you could show more of the sights along the way. As I will probably never get to visit England or GB this is the only chance I'll get to see these things. Thank You Paul for the great videos.
“Same every year, packed with muggles of course. Come on! Platform 9/34 , this way” kings cross is my favourite station because my Nan was born in the buildings overlooking the station over 100 years ago.
I really enjoy the details of the locations and things of interest along the way. Educates as well as entertains. Your best videos are ones where you introduce and close on camera. As a recent subscriber im going through your back catalogue and its clear you're getting better at what you're doing - and your subscriber numbers show that.
Nice work to Adrian, TJ and Jake. Certainly did have me scratching my head whilst watching. Nicely edited to. Your train trips are my favourite. Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely magnificent. I propped my phone on my letter box, which sits on my desk. Watching this, my cup of tea, pen and notebook, it's really armchair fun. It felt as if I was riding along also.
So enjoyed this trip, Paul. Loved trains all my life. That guy from Virgin, Inc. sure knows what he's about, doesn't he? These trains are exquisitely beautiful. Wish I could get to the UK!! LOL Keep up the excellent trippin'! I'll continue to watch. Best to you and yours. JTR
The addition of the external shots was great, and the references to local lore a great addition. Now I know who Terry Butcher was, and "The greatest goal in FIFA history.". I knew of neither of those. The variety of shots really brings out one of your Q and A videos where you state that you're not fun to travel with. You're too busy working. Well done, and your work keeps me coming back.
HI PAUL JUST FOUND YOU..THRILLED TO BITS. 81 YEARS OLD AND HAVE ALWAYS LOVED TRAIN TRAVEL..SOUTH AFRICAN.......AND USED TO DO THE WONDERFUL DURBAN TO JOANNESBURG OVERNIGHTER AS A CHILD.....TWO BERTH WITH MOTHER...BRILLIANT MEMORIES OF THE BEDDING...DINING CAR AND IMMACULATE SERVICE........76 YEARS AGO WHEN I STARTED TRAVELLING. HAVE SPENT THE LAST TWO DAYS TRAVELLING WITH YOU........DID TRAVEL FROM VENICE TO LONDON ON THE ORIENT IN 1983............QUITE MAGIC. SO THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL SERIES.....STILL TRAVELLING FROM MY COUCH.
I really like all your posts, but the train journeys are my favorite. The was definitely one of the best. Loved the outside shots of the trains; they really ad a great new dimension. Thanks again!!
Great video Paul. I’m from Newcastle but live in Melbourne Australia now. I used this line many times in the 90s when I worked in London and used to visit my parents for the weekend. Brings back many memories.
LOVE trains and LOVE your reports!✌😉Thank you!🌷🌷🌷Trains seems to bee the best way to travel domestically in Britain, I would say flying is the best option in Sweden. In my opinion of course, others might disagree😉
I adore these types of trip reports😁😁😁😁. In my opinion trains are better than planes but that's just my personal opinion. Great job Paul keep up the excellent work.
I enjoyed the exterior shots, great work by your helpful minions (LOL). I also liked the footage from inside Kings Cross as the architecture is beautiful.
I loved this trip! I took this trip 20 years ago to York on Great Northern! I was impressed with the remodel of Kings Cross. I would love one of the menus
You mean GNER (Great North Eastern Railway) 😀 Great Northern operates local stopping services from King's Cross and the furthest north they reach is Peterborough. The trains are still the same as they were then, but as you can see they've been refurbished. Many of us miss the GNER days as they were unique in that they were the only rail operator that increased the number of on-board restaurants over what British Rail offered (others cut back on restaurants and now there's only a few remaining on GWR), a stylish livery, great catering and an attention to detail such as having the GNER crest on all glassware.
Save East Coast Rewards Thank you. My memory is a little fuzzy from that time. But, I do remember the ride from London Kings Cross to York and return. It was amazing when compared to Amtrak
Hello sir, I loved this video. Probably, the one that contains more information about points of interest, etc., of all the train videos. An excellent English breakfast, so that the three hours of the trip are more bearable. I've been to NCL many times, probably more than thirty, but only at the airport. I have not had the opportunity to visit the train station, nor the city. A shame. Thank you very much for attending your weekly appointment with your subscribers. All the best,
Just done my 7 day 1st class ALR, used Kings Cross and VTEC quite a bit, all on HST to north of Edinburgh, was really good service and good food, ate and drink so much.
Takes me back to doing this trip every other month when I was at Northumbria Uni. Back in the old GNER days. Loved this journey so much. Took me right back to some great trips on this line with mates! Cheers Paul.
I agree on King's Cross. Loved that station. I took the train down from Huntingdon pretty much every other weekend. Former Airman stationed at Molesworth, so travel was something I had to do. I caught the whole restoration as it happened! Went from eating a cheese sandwich from Huntingdon station to catching a burrito at the Mexican place in the refurbished one. My only regret is not finding the time to take the train from St. Pancras to Paris.
Really enjoyed this report. Noticed you trying out some different shots not seen in your previous videos. (enjoyed the info and tour of Kings Cross too) Fun stuff. In the next few years I'll be planning a trip to visit the UK and want to travel around by train while I am there - looking forward to your train trip reports this year!
Another Great Report from you Paul, & the extra snippets of Gen, is much welcomed.. And see some interesting Train Reports in the offing 👍🏻 The mention of the Eurostar service starting to Amsterdam, is if special interest! Cheers
Saw this screenshotted on my pals Instagram Account. I'm glad that she did!!!! Deffo subscribed now. Great Job @PaulsTripReports keep it up fella! 👍👍👍👍
The cripple sidings at Northallerton used to be a coal depot as well as platforms for livestock trains going to the old auction mart which was right next to the station. Now the auction mart has moved and the sidings are mostly used to stable track maintenance trains.
I travel first class between london and york quite a bit on virgin. Last time however (end of Jan) i was disappointed as they didn't have all the food items available for breakfast. Do love the calmness of first class on busy trains. Oh can I say how good it is to see how polite you are to everyone. My mum used to say manners maketh man. lol
Paul, I am an American and always appreciate your expertise, especially outside N. America. It's also nice to see your unbiased reports about your USA trips.
Very enjoyable as usual. I was actually looking forward to your Sunday evening video as i was driving home from the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. Oh Yeah..... I want a menu
I remember taking that route (as far as York) around 2000. What impressed me was the number of tunnels: every time the train entered a tunnel at high speed, my ears would "pop" from the pressure. It certainly was fast and comfortable (compared to our USA trains).
Another great review! Thank you Paul. There’s some good railway architecture up that line. The food looked good and I was impressed with the lounge - are these becoming more common? The external footage was a great idea and thanks to those who filmed it! Oh, and #teambrownsauce all the way!
First Class lounges are present at some major intercity stations. Virgin East Coast and Virgin West Coast operate them. GWR have one, East Midlands have a few. Plus there are a few other random ones around. I think the scope for them is quite limited - the frequency on British trains on intercity routes is actually very good, something we forget often. For example, London to Manchester every 20 minutes, London to Bristol every 30, London to Birmingham every 20, London to Newcastle every 30, and so on. You’re not in the station for too long, even when connecting.
GWR actually have two, the main one is in Paddington and it is my favourite of the UK railway lounges (it might look nothing special at first glance but it has both a modern and a traditional section, the traditional section used to be Queen Victoria's waiting room), the other GWR lounge is in Cardiff. Other lounges I know of, Greater Anglia has quite a basic first class lounge in Liverpool Street, Grand Central has one in Wakefield Kirkgate and ScotRail has one in Aberdeen (not open to VTEC passengers)
Thanks for the great video. I doubt I'll get back across the pond to experience it myself. I've ridden trains in Germany and Italy, but they were back in the '70s.
Just found your channel and loving it. I prefer the planes to the trains but watched this and lo and behold...... PETERBOROUGH. I know that place ...... it's home these days but not my home town. Keep up the good work and thanks very much for your hard work. I'd love to be able to fly more than I actually do.
Good to see proper catering on VTEC. I regularly travel early morning to both Euston and Scotland on VTWC 1st class and the catering is excellent. In contrast I travelled last week on a peak morning Transpennine Express service from Liverpool to Newcastle and all on offer was a biscuit and a couple of cups of tea/coffee for the whole 3 hour journey, all begrudgingly served. Booked in advance, my next early morning service to Euston from Lime Street on VTWC costs £4 more than the advance TPE fare I’ve just travelled on AND includes my local Merseyrail travel that TPE don’t include in their advance fare.
I love the idea of Virgin Trains they are so much better than anything we have got in the South East of Australia. We do have the XPT (which is based upon the HST but rubbish because Conditions of track and temperature are completely different to that of Brittan) but they are only twice a day and they are expensive and really in need of a facelift. V/Line is good but has the issue of being mainly standard class commuter trains between major Victorian Cities (Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo). It is really good that you have now gained some confidence to speak in your videos there is not really much to fear about it anyway. I might give doing a trip review a go possibly to Geelong or Gipsland. Cheers Jezz
What a beautifully shot and enjoyable video! Paul, with each set of trip report vids I watch, I become increasingly inspired to board a plane again. I equally love your rail vids, as I'm a longtime rail-lover. Before enjoying this travel on Virgin to Newcastle, I viewed your EuroStar train journey. I'm ready to fly again, and first I'll be heading to England to tour London and hopefully two or three cities. If I can, I'd love to reach the Cotswolds. Perhaps I'm dreaming too big. From London's St. Pancras Station: to Paris via the EuroStar and then the TGV to either Normandy or to Lyon. I'm still in the planning stages on that first air+rail trip. After that, meaning, within two years of the above trip, I'd like to visit Ireland, including Dublin, Belfast and Dingle. I just hope that I don't go bankrupt riding first class on the EuroStar! I don't think that'll happen. I really wrote in tonight (it's only 8:44 p.m. here on the U.S. Eastern seaboard) just to say thank you, thank you, for just enjoyable videos and info-rich (and visual-rich) trip reports. I love your calming voice, the wonderful music selections and all the sights and sounds of the trains -- interiors and exteriors -- and the airplanes. Wow! 🌝 Cheers, Gabriela
As an occasional viewer, I can see the vast improvement in quality since your earlier work. Glad to see that the shaky walking whilst talking to the camera was not used.
I would love a menu. Me and my wife love watching your weekly reports! Really interesting and enjoyable. Please add more detail in what you thought about the food. The big breakfast looked great but was it as good as it looked? Keep it up!
A trip to which I can truly relate. I am originally from Morpeth (another 14 miles further North!) I have to say I would love to join you on a trip one day, as I have loved train travel since I was knee-high to a grasshopper
Great stuff as ever Paul, was a pleasure to film for you! Always enjoy travelling with Virgin Trains East Coast, and so rather aptly I'm #teamredsauce - Would like to be entered in the giveaway too please :)
I just subscribed to your interesting channel earlier today and have watched a few of your other videos before this one. This is the first domestic train trip I have watched. Your "production values" seem quite high - congratulations! :) A minor detail that intrigued me though - at one point you showed a close-up of what was I assume your own ticket and it showed it to be a "disabled person railcard" ticket, whatever your disability I am glad it does not seem to hinder your travel unduly. As for me, I use a "senior person railcard" and tend to use the 1st class option whenever possible to give a little more space and comfort, although I travel by train (& in general) much less frequently than you seem to. Another enjoyable video.
Special thanks again to those guys credited above who helped with the external shots!
Let me know what you think of Virgin Trains East Coast in the comments. And don’t forget, there’s plenty more train trips coming up this year, including a few really special ones. 😀
Paul's Trip Reports did you go to wakefield westgate Paul?
No - Wakefield is on a different line, to Leeds.

Paul's Trip Reports I have used them a little, and each time the expierience was very good, looking forward to the Azuma!
That lovely feeling on a Sunday morning when you see that another trip report has been uploaded!
Terrific report Paul. Loved all the different film segments and snippets of background information you've researched and inserted. All is greatly appreciated and unique to your content. Thanks for sharing. Wish you enjoyable travelling ahead : )

Thank you Paul. First class rail has to be the best way to travel - It all looked stress free and enjoyable
Another brilliant video... slowly becoming my favourite channel in youtube
Thank you Billy! 👍🏻
I’d love to enter the competition... to add to my collection!
Beautiful station. Like the song says: "London, London. My beautiful London! Always so old and so young!" The station reflects that! Fantastic!
Absolutely magnificent. I propped my phone on my letter box, which sits on my desk. Watching this, my cup of tea, pen and notebook, it's really armchair fun. It felt as if I was riding along also.

Don’t really comment on many videos but I’m several beers down and felt the need to team brown sauce this shit
Theo Saunders don’t swear
Train Spotter Yeah swearing is a fucking bad thing to do
I fucking hate people who swear
@@AnonYmous-dh2zt Looking back at this comment I still can't identify whether it was sarcastic or serious LOL

Thank you for another superb video and a great watch again Paul. Looking forward to your next upload already!
Awesome Video Paul. Loved it, nice to see a East coast in depth rather than a West coast. Keep up the good work!
I can't lie this channel is better than any trip reports
Another great video. Can't beat the sound of a class 91 starting up. Sheer power
Great video. Editing was perfect. Thanks for making this one. Love the train reports.
I adore these types of trip reports😁😁😁😁. In my opinion trains are better than planes but that's just my personal opinion. Great job Paul keep up the excellent work.
The quality of your videos has increased a ridiculous amount, the b roll and the platform shots are a welcome addition, keep it up!
Keep your Travels coming, showing your Breakfast Plate reminds me that I have not had "Black Sausage since I moved to Sydney in 1966. Love it.
Paul, your films are excellent. You really have a gift.
I enjoyed the exterior shots, great work by your helpful minions (LOL). I also liked the footage from inside Kings Cross as the architecture is beautiful.
That was really good....Paul`s Trip Reports is becoming a firm favourite !
Looked like a very enjoyable journey...not much train travel out here in the Western US, so that was quite the treat! Thanks for sharing, subbed!
Nice Paul. I watch all of your videos and it is one of my favourite channels on youtube.
King's Cross Railway Station is a wonderful piece of architecture.
Paul I would love a menu! Never miss one of your reports! They brighten my Monday's.

great video Paul, very informative, love the way you blend in the music. more please:-)
Thanks, Paul. Good to see you in Coach L, seat 31: my favourite seat, plenty of space and nearer than most to the start of the food trolley run!
Yes, I travelled in K once but found that trolley-clattering noises from the galley were a bit of a distraction. I am happier with L!
2k more subs since I last looked, I am not surprised. Great channel TYVM
Would love one of those menus! Great video again Paul :)

Fantastic trip report as always Paul! Yes for the menu- A Virgin Trains East Coast first class menu card would be great to win!

I would love a menu. Me and my wife love watching your weekly reports! Really interesting and enjoyable. Please add more detail in what you thought about the food. The big breakfast looked great but was it as good as it looked? Keep it up!
Been looking forward to this one!
Nice video Paul. Can’t wait for the new Azuma trains to launch on this line. You’ll have to go on one when they do!
Used to live not far from Durham, one of the best views you get from a train.
Excellent presentation and beautiful amazing panorama , thanks to all,A viewer from beautiful Bangladesh with Love।

Thankyou so much for the great journeys you report on. Thankyou for the opportunity of the giveaway.

I love your train trip reports Paul. As usual great work and with getting the external shots as well. Put me in for the giveaway please. Thanks G.
Japan’s Shinkansen should be in your bucket list. I’ve done it. I promise you’ll love it.
Enjoy watching your videos.
