You've been bugging me for the story for years, and now you've got it! I loved living in NYC and all the unusual experiences that made it special. Enjoy!
The FICARRA.. has a nice ring to it. Maybe someday, there’s a supercar named after you..or not. Here’s my card, we should sit down and talk.
You don't ask the mob if it can be red, because the answer is "what shade?"
Love you John
You've been bugging me for years? "Guilty as charged". Now we have it? "Indeed we do, and IMHO it was worth the wait and will be a Ficarra/VinWiki classic! You should have offered them some gabbagool as a tribute. {just saying.} #ThisCanBeRed #FicarraClassic #VinWiki
Could be that you were just profiling them and you've watched too many mob movies!
The mafia is and has been heavily involved in the ports and especially the produce markets in California thru the union..if you dont hire their guys to unload you or if you dont pay to use their docks, you sit...
My dad's company used to rent a big warehouse on 4th Ave. in Brooklyn. The entire block is owned by someone, if not more blocks. On the day of signing the contract, the guy says, "Don't worry about security here. Ain't nobody stupid enough to steal in this neighborhood. However, if you do run into any problems, don't bother calling the cops, give us a call directly and we'll handle everything."
Hahaha that sounds super dramatic and movie like! Love it
I met a guy and he said." How you doin." Had to be a mob hitman.
I've been peer pressuring John for this video for like 2 years, I'm glad it finally happened 🤣
As soon as he said “union” I knew he’d be getting a social call from somebody… :D
I definitely Fangirl for John Ficarra… Every story he tells is like one of those most interesting man in the world commercials.
This is the best description I’ve ever read
Same. We should start a fan club
ficarra's a weird name icl
Like a phantom turd so smooth...lol
Right there with ya
As a Teamster from a different state, I am shocked. Shocked! That John would so accurately describe someone in charge of a union.
9:37 - If you want to understand what he's talking about regarding "tipping someone", there is this wonderful scene in Back To School where Rodney Dangerfield's character is in the Econ class telling the professor what real life is like:
"First of all you're going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that'll cost ya. Oh and don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boyscouts."
Extremely accurate. The building inspectors refer to it as, "special paperwork".
You sound like you’re proud of those bottom-feeders
@@pistonburner6448 You sound like you make a lot of baseless assumptions without the facts. I was merely showing a illustration of how things are in New York and a lot of the east coast. I am a fan of the movie, not the mob.
I heard Rodney Dangerfield’s voice in every word!!! Spot-on accurate!!! Love that film!!!
@@jackielinde7568 Fair enough. I guess I was mistakenly hearing all the countless other people in your words, the ones we know to admire these mafiosos. My apologies.
Immediately followed by "Whenever you get a ticket, it's important to fight every one. And the perfect partner in that fight is the local mob..."
Reminds me of the one episode of the Soprano's where the new SL55 gets stolen and Tony tells them they better un-steal that car. They had their hands in everything.
Reminds me also of when AJ's science teacher's Saturn was stolen, and Carmela asks Tony to find it (because, of course). It had already been chopped, though, so the guys get another one repainted and leave it in the school parking lot. What could anyone say, but that was still nice of Tony to do...
Then there was the time Patsy and Burt, walking around a gentrified part of Newark (I think it was), try to shakedown a "Starbucks" by offering "protection", but the poor guy working there tells them they gotta go through corporate. As they're leaving with nothing, Patsy says, "It's over for the little guy."
On this episode on vinwiki we find out that John is actually a wise guy
I was a non union rigging contractor some years ago. I was taking apart a paper mill in New Jersey . Members of the union came to visit and suggested that joining their union was in our best interest. Along with the dues associated with membership we were asked to employ 2 guys . These two guys came to the job the next day. The one guy only did plasma cutting. The other guy I can't really remember what his specialty was. These were the only things they did otherwise there just sat arround. They got paid $45/ Hr. Our guys got about $20. Still cheap insurance.
Unions are the legal arm of the mafia. If they don't get their way or the boss doesn't get his kickbacks, they'll shut everything down or worse. Unions have become outdated and corrupt and should all be shut down.
This reminds me pleasantly of my favorite bits of _Kitchen Confidential,_ which involved Bourdain's descriptions of his interactions with various "Italian-American Fraternal Organizations" in the restaurant business in New York. Different industry, same theatrics.
In the immortal words of Tony Soprano, “There’s no such thing as the mafia!”
“It’s a stereotype! And it’s offensive!”
John's stories are always great. Thanks Ed!
I great uncle won a house from the teamsters lottery way back in the day. Mom said at one point he sold it and moved across the country because some people were looking for him.
Got chills..Always interesting story coming from John.
Even if he just reads news it would be instantly 100 times more interesting..
I can't in good conscience 'like' something promoting living by fear. It's not okay.
You can always count on John for a great story!!! Thanks John & Ed!!! 👍👍🙂
I'm a simple man, I see John's face and immediately click the Like button because it's a given that it's gonna be a great video.
John could tell a story about eating cereal and make it interesting... dude has a gift.
Best story in a long time. My Grandpa had some dealings with a certain union in NYC as a trucking company owner operating out of the former garment district. I will leave it at that.
I would love to see Finnegan, Freiburger and Tony Angelo That would be gold.
John never fails on his stories. He’s on. I never skip.
One of John's best stories ever. And all of his stories for fantastic. But I am currently watching The Sopranos for the very first time and listening to this story was a lot of fun!
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Great story, well told. Mr Ficarra is an absolute pleasure, as always ✌
Always a good day when we get a John Ficarra story
Living in Chicago I totally understand what happened. That world is apart of chicago city business. Goes back to 1900s. I don't think people realize ALL of those skyscrapers in NY and Chicago would not get built if the "Unions" didn't give the ok. Glad it worked out. Your to great of a guy to swim with the 🐟 fishes. 😎 Though even just dropping bikes of at a union gig, I would have called them first. 😯😁
When Comcast was building their headquarters in Philly, they planned to install waterless urinals. The plumbers' union threw a fit and shut down construction until Comcast agreed to pay them to run water pipes to the urinals "just in case they wanted to convert to flush urinals in the future". Unions are the legal arm of the mafias. If the boss doesn't get his kickback, he'll shut everything down or worse. Unions are outdated and corrupt.
A little tip for you John. Next time, tell that guy to go home and get his shine box.
Oh dear lord.
As a non American i have a great understanding of what John speaks of, sense i have been influenced by American history and movies my entire life.
The history of the mafia is an interesting subject.
John Ficarra is my favorite on this channel.
Best stories on Winwiky mr. Jon Ficara 🎉
Do you have more storyes with track racing?
The one with the wood circuit was a blast of the past!
I enjoyed this stories! Keep it up, Good bless’ !
Next week on vinwiki..John Ficarra is missing 😆😆🤨🤨
I really hope not...
Sleepin’ with the fishes…
At least they come to your door for a discussion. All in all it’s far more civilized than being crippled by bureaucracy. Did the district rep ever show up to discuss anything?
Great story ! My dad was a mechanic and I really enjoy All of the people on here….shout out to Wizard also
"Keeping the Peace" that's a good way to put it hahaha
We don’t see enough of John. Great story teller 👍🏻 Thanks for the video!
LOVE John's stories, ALWAYS so well told. TY for sharing!
This is GREAT........I Grew Up In NYC Metro....and good to hear how the world goes around for the Newbee's
THE FICARRA.. has a nice ring to it! Someday, there will be a supercar named after John. We can make that happen for you.. or not. Here’s my card.
Try to do a trade show booth in Chicago or New York and you will quickly find out about the unions. Nothing gets done in your booth without union labor, not even screwing in a light bulb without an electrician.
I feel like John is the type of guy who'd comfort you in time of need. This guy rocks!
Even today, it's difficult to do business in any of the five boroughs without organized crime interference, especially with union jobs.
Back in the 60's or early 70's my grandpa's brother bought a bar right outside New Orleans and he's getting ready to open and a guy comes in and offers him a deal on all his alcohol, so he signed a contract and put the order in for what he needed.................well a couple days later a couple guys come in and they say, "Hey, we're with such an such (competing alcohol distributor) and we're here to sell you your alcohol." Well my grandpa's brother says, "Look, such and such come in yesterday and I signed a contract with him and he's going to be supplying all my alcohol, but I appreciate you stopping by." And the guys were like, "No, you don't understand, you are going to be buying all your alcohol from such and such."
It was at this point my Grandpa's Brother realized what was what and he wanted no part of it, so he ended up selling the bar before he even opened.
If it's John, it's a good story.
Great story that reminded me when I worked at a large Grocery chain in a small town Alberta Canada. A notorious MC club that is still around these days just opened up a Chapter in the same town and well the new MC club members would come shopping once a week. I treated them with respect and they treated me just like a normal person, long story short one day i was chatting with the MC guys and they Manager of the store was looking for me and well once he saw who i was taking too his demeanor changed from that day on...
Sounds like NY needs another cleanup. Of the 7.62 kind
“It’s not terrible”
John Ficarra talking about the mob
Love how Ficarra tells a story. This one had me about fall off the treadmill during my session....laughing. At the various watch how ya word it.....mob rep interactions.
As much as we laugh at this story , a lot of small business owners were harmed in many cities.
Not to mention regular dues-paying members of a union have to support these parasites. The mob is the worst thing that ever happened to unions. No employee or employer should have to operate in a climate of fear. A fair day's work for a fair day's pay.
Mr Ficarra never misses the beat.
Another amazing story from him
He could be talking about the color of the sky and I would find it amusing
Keep doing the great job sir.
It could be red.
@@1203fild aaaahhhh,,, you beat me to it,,,, lol
@@1203fild lol “This.. can be ..red” is the line that goes right along side “Your honor, I have A LOT of evidence..” on the vinWiki wall of fame
@@tripprogers4814 Which video is that from? Nothing's popping up in my head yet.

I'm from Youngstown Ohio and yup, they will burn your shit down right now. LOL!
The story we've all been looking for
Storytime with John Ficarra! 💯
Dude I almost married into the Daley Clan in Chicago ... It was fun times!
That is just another reason to boycott New York.
Please ask Chris to come back and tell some more stories. Chris has told the best stories...in my opinion.
It's close tie between John and Chris....
@@ashp5406 my favorites are Chris and rabbit.
No doubt Rabbit have onneof the craziest stories, but Chris And John can make simple stories Interesting because of their craft of story telling.
Dude, I love it when you're on! Your tales are always so awesome! ✌️❤️🙂
As an Italian I feel ashamed for this crap !!
That was a genuinely cool story
same thing happen in my city,we call it retribution or secure money
Not that is anything to do with this video but for those of you that know John Schneider 's wife just passed away and being the Dukes of Hazzard and the General Lee stories have been a part of this channels best stories though I would post about it.
"...organized by color..."
So it CAN be red. 😆
Such a great story.
Put them all on jail.
Fugettahboutit
Love that saying. ✌️✌️
same vibes as seth rogan saying that its normal to have your car broken into 11 times being in LA.
Out of the 4 vinwiki UA-camrs I met, he’s the only person who was rude to my employees when he needed parts for his jaguar.
I could have sworn this has all been covered by Mr Ficarra a good while back on this platform too. Could be mistaken and be remembering the motorcycle seat sniffer guy that was somehow connected to the salt bikes and the boys from brooklyn may have been mentioned in a way similar to this d
Ah, New York, thanks for sharing another great story John, Rj in Oz
When is VinWiki gonna add the John Ficcarra custom lipstick shade to its merch?
Interesting. Thank you.
John and most of the Vinwiki guests are great. God or the Devil are in the details based on attributions & entomology, but car guys and especially wrenches are super-interesting examples of the capabilities of the human mind.
Ed cracks me up on CarTrek. Ed’s spontaneous mocking is loving based upon understanding. Ed should be a voice actor. 🥰🤦🏻♀️
Ed is UA-cams very own
James earl Jones
Or Barry White ....
@@stuartd9741 😁🤣Thankfully he never sold Crapto. 🤞but I know what you’re saying!
Yea John.
Coming and intimidating you in order to extort/steal from you, is not in any way shape or form 'respectful'.
It's the same thing as a thug pointing a gun in your face and if you don't give him your wallet you're disrespecting him. Respect goes both ways.
@@bwofficial1776 It's the same as me dispatching your family members one by one, for making a stupid comment like this one.
"This can be red"
“I have A LOT of evidence, your honor..”
Looks like John did the ambulance for Motley Crue back in the day!
Finally the John is back
those people magically go away when you stand up against them. they don't want the light on them and when You turn on the spotlight and let others know they can be challenged they lose their power
Very interesting. You should say "purveyance", instead of "purvey".
A wild John Ficarra appears!
Wait a second, did Ficarra channel his inner Rabbit for this one!?
I swear I notice a slightly other demeanor when telling this story. 😅😄
Cornelius Would Be Proud.🙌🏻
In California, the governments da mafia
Ayy im renting movie cars here
If JF is telling the story, you know it's damn good and informative too
hard for me to 'respect' anyone who makes their money by extortion.
I had to Pause the video to laugh… YOU MADE THE CAR RED. hahahaha!!! 0:40
Great story, but why the ambiguity? Are these wise guys still a threat? Did you ever "tipped" them and that's the key to keeping the peace and part of doing business in NY?
This is the most 2000s new york story to ever be told.
This man is the GOAT story teller
I love how all Unions are associated with the mob. As a 28 year union pipefitter I can say I’ve never experienced the mob mentality, however, I live in Florida not New York.
Am I tripping but when he says “They get, they rise up and they walked out the door” does John sound like rabbit?????? 6:55 in the video 😂😂😂😂
I don’t do any drugs or drink that’s RABBITs voice 😂
A great story with the great story teller!
hi big fan of your channel and work hope I could be in your video someday and explain my model car collection journey
Can we get more this can be red shirts in the merge shop?? I’ve been waiting for months
Ed. We love these stories well, maybe keep in mind Jock Yablonski lives on. Not necessarily in body but nevertheless he lives on,and needs to be rembered. $$$ Clarksville
A lot of road scenes for the movie SALT. were filmed in Albany., It's still union country , Teamsters drive the cars when not shooting, And the stagehands are Saratoga local 592 ATSEI. "go hard or go home" RIP. "Coach"
*Albany, NY.
This guy doesn't mind getting extorted
What a story!!
The man can tell a story!
Glad u made it out
