Imrat Khan Sahib was overshadowed by his older brother, Ustad Vilayat Khan, and didn't carve out an independent niche for himself early enough. In Chandini Kedara both excelled together in one of the most dazzling and perfect jugalbandis ever. Here, Imrat Khan shows his own genius and training. I don't know if anyone else has expounded upon this raga before or after him. One of the rare recordings made in the prime of his life. May his soul rest in peace. He gave so much to the world of music.
A clear departure from Ustadji's usual style. The notes are mostly played without the meends, quavers and the saas that mark the unique brand of Ustadji's surbahar exposition. Even the silences and pauses are missing. The performance is more sitar- like. What is the year of this performance?
@Vishnu Kudlu Thanks for your considered comment. Your comments resemble John Keats's lines: "Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter;". Let us keep up the search for the SOUL of Indian classical music. Ignore the dazzle, glitter and technical juggleries. Thanks ,once again.
saif d khan there’s no way of controlling the volume. When I play the UA-cam links they are just fine. May be it is a problem at your end. Other listeners could tell us if they’re facing the same issue.
I have listened to a lot of Ustadji’s recordings but this is special - serene, majestic yet beautiful, very hard to put in words. I am very grateful to you for sharing this recording.
Such a masterpiece. One who can see will see it as one of the most musical thing ever.
Divine.
God Bless.
Thanks.
