  • In this video I will scrap and process a batch of gold plated watches. I will purify gold plating using Aqua Regia and iron sulfate to recover pure gold. Enjoy!

    Awesome video! How did you manage to prevent silver chloride from contaminating your gold?

    • @escrapchannel
      @escrapchannel  6 місяців тому

      Hi, in gold plated watches processing I did not find silver chloride to separate. In general, filtration helps.

    So those were gold plated? Not gold filled? I've always avoided plated jewelry. But if that is a yield from plated watches, wow.

      Hi, I have one more video where I show the marks of the cases so you can see it is gold plating 5-20 microns thick. Only for one of this pile of cases I think was filled. All other plated.

    I have question: 1 step.. ONLY PUT WATCHES to Nitric Acid? and wait about 2hours? nothing next? (heating?, next Acid?). TY

    • @escrapchannel
      @escrapchannel  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi, reaction of the nitric acid with brass is exothermic, so heating is not needed. Starts slowly but then speeds up.
      After dissolving 95% of the brass in the cases reaction slows down a lot, so it is good to remove the acid that worked out and put the gold foils into fresh nitric acid to quickly dissolve any remains of brass. No other acids needed.

    Здрасти, интересно видео! Как разбираш колко време трябва да престоят предметите в азотна киселина? В клипа мисля, че каза, че тези са стояли около 2 часа.

    • @escrapchannel
      @escrapchannel  2 місяці тому +1

      @@antoniokasabov9364 Здравей! Когато спре реакцията - отделянето на мехурчета или се е изразходвала азотната или се е разтворил метала от часовниковите каси. Изваждам ги, промивам и слагам отново в азотна. Ако реакцията рестартира бурно, значи има останал доста метал за разтваряне. Ако се появи съвсем слабо оцветяване, значи сме на финала.

    Nice vid. Thank you 👍
    According to your yield, I would estimate my 1,165 kg of gold plated watches to get me around 22 grams of gold. 🤔
    I sure hope that’s the case 😅

      It was more or less a fair mixture with only one gold filled case marked also as plated (very strange mark), so 1.9% of total weight yield is fine. I’ve seen more and I’ve seen less. All depends on material :)

    • @escrapchannel
      @escrapchannel  Рік тому

      Hi, it really depends a lot. My yield of gold per kg material is between 30g and 0.2g. 30g I got from military USSR pins, and 0.2g from modern main board pins.

      Hi, I never tried dissolving solid brass cases in hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide, but if I try this I will pick 30% peroxide and periodically add it to the solution to keep reaction going. With 3 and 6 % peroxide the issue is that volumes become huge at certain point.

    • @escrapchannel
      @escrapchannel  Рік тому +2

      My point is that in case of silver contacts cleaning from copper we deal with small amount of copper to dissolve. Watch cases are tens and hundreds of grams. For watch cases I always use nitric acid.
