Out of all the videos I've watched and couldn't work out why I wasn't getting the GF option, you're the only one that explained I need to be using the PS Beta. Thank you!
Thank you Kristina! As a novice photographer, it gives me a great deal of pleasure to say that your are very thourough in your presentations of various videos. You make it very easy for anyone interested in photography to follow your presentations/instructions! Keep it up! You certainly made a fan here.
On the image of your daughter, my favorite was #2, just felt the most realistic. I just found this video as I needed to increase some space on an image of running wolves which needed more space to the left. In order to keep the aspect ration, and the ability to crop to other sizes, I wanted to increase the sides and the bottom. The background is snow on all 3 sides, as well as foliage on the sides. I simply left my ratio at the original, dragged the crop outwards on the sides and the bottom, clicked Generate and was presented with 3 excellent options. Perhaps the release version does not require using the marquee, it worked without for me. Thank you for the excellent video, pacing was great, and your examples were spot on. Simply WOW! I am now your newest subscriber.
Nice video and new subscriber here. As a graphic designer and photographer, this is probably one of the biggest breakthroughs in Photoshop for 10 years!
You're the 5th video I've watched, and the only one clear enough that it worked. I did discover that generative fill doesn't work with grayscale...I do a lot of historical work, so that was a necessary lesson. It's an amazing tool!
just tried this today. Absolutely crazy!! And to think this is still the Beta makes it even more impressive. I can't even think about how it will be in like a year from now. Imagine telling people 20 years ago something like this would be possible. Thank you for the video!
Hi Kristina: Thanks for creating and sharing these videos. These new tools are mind-blowing but it certainly blurs the boundaries of authentic photographic images vs. digital art. Cheers, Keith
I agree with you! But given my extensive photoshop background, I like to subscribe to the thought that whatever tool you use to create your art doesn't really matter as long as your photo's message and vision is exactly what you envisioned in your mind's eye.
Thank you for these excellent video tutorials! Your pace and clarity were just right for me to follow and understand these fantastic Photoshop features.
@@SharkPixel Your pace was perfect for me. Some UA-cam tutorials are too quick and I have to replay them over and over again. In my book, I will spend less time on a properly paced tutorial than a quick paced tutorial that I have to replay over and over.
This is totally amazing!! I used to be a photographer and did all my own retouching. I have gotten away from photography and have forgotten much of what I used to know. I am now a Fine Artist and am always looking for references....this is such a game changer!!!!!! This opens so many opportunities. I love both the Aspect ratio changes; what a pain that was...wish you could have seen my face when that happened. Love your site!! Thanks for all the information!
A lot of artists are using AI for inspiration! it can be used in so many different ways! Make sure you watch all 4 videos as they cover different topics!
I thinbk this is my favourite. I've always struggled with this and I have so many photos that could do with a bit more space around the subject. Thanks so much
It’s brilliant, it has rescued wildlife photos where the bird was faster than my tracking, or the bird changed track leaving no “space” to fly into, adding a Generative space works extremely well with a little extra editing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great! Since a year now I am playing with Midjourney and prompt-generated basic works very well in compositions. Now this tool will come in my workflow.
This is a fantastic feature. I've just used it for a more basic photo studio background extension, and it worked beautifully. Thank you for your video which helped to figure out how this feature actually works in Photoshop (which I haven't been using for many years once I switched to Sketch/Figma for UI design)
Thank you, thank you! I print 13x19 for my exhibition prints and this will help! My new studio is a little small for full length dancers and these new tools are very exciting for me. I subscribed.
Did you mention that you need to take a small sliver of the existing image with the rectangular marquee tool when making your selection? I noticed that you did on each selection and Adobe recommends that on these extensions.
I have a question. These tools are amazing: however, I am confused if I lose my copywrite by utilizing these tools.I read all of the Adobe info on the guidelines, but uploading to the Firefly gallery is confusing to me. When you mention that we need wifi so or image can be beamed up to the cloud, does that constitute submitting to the FireFly gallery? I do understand that any image utilizing these tools can NOT be used for business/ commercially.
Super helpful! You speak clearly and in a pace that my brain can process. Also it's nice to be taught by a woman for once instead of all of the men's how to's. Subscribed, I'm excited to see what more you have on here!!!
In the Beta mode can you save the image? Just got your retouching book, looking forward to putting it to use. Thanks for your hard work and for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Kristi, I just watch your 4 videos and have to say I love how yo teach. You speak clearly and without rush so every word can be understood. I'm a customer of yours and also love the actions I purchased. Now I think I have this GF subject down thanks to you. Im writing with a question off-subject but related. I have a 8-yrs old granddaughter who I'd love to shoot as you did with the levitation image and illuminated umbrella. I was hoping to find a tutorial on that shot on UA-cam or your website, but if there is one in either of these sites, I did not find it. I've done levitation before, but I was particularly interested to see if you had a description of how you created the bright light in the interior of the umbrella
Ive subscribed to your channel. Thank you. I have a problem though. The Generative Fill is leaving a solid line where the "marching ants" used to be. What am I doing wrong?
I would simply use the remove tool. You can also make your initial selection include a small slice of the original background. This will give a much better blend.
Question, i have two photos, one zoomed in which i love extending it. But what AI gives back is nothing close to what I want. I have a second photo, same location angle but taken zoomed out. Is there a way to tell AI to regenerate off that photo so it creates the extended areas according to the real structure?
Not within photoshop. But on firefly.adobe.com you can upload a reference image. And theres a way to use a basic sketch when generating in PS. But I dont have a video on that. I am pretty sure Jesus from Photoshop Training Channel has a video on this!
Hi There, I am having some trouble when I go to crop my photo the background it white and not the onionskin or the pattern that you have. How can I fix this? Thanks!
Thank you so much for your video! I was going to do your process, but when I used the crop tool to expand the canvas, the AI did an automated generated expansion! Talk about blowing my mind even more. My PS Beta just had an update yesterday, so not sure if this was put into the latest update! Just WOW!
Useful tutorial, but you didn’t mention grabbing some meat off your selection when using the marquee tool, although you did this yourself, would it not be worth explaining that by doing this you give the AI some idea of what you want to generate?
I definitely agree with you. But..... photoshop does take a border of pixels around your selection up to the cloud with it in order to make a perfect blend.
Can images modified by this AI process be used in a book cover for resale? I mean, is the image licensed for this sort of use as long as the original image was licensed?
Not until this technology is out of Beta. Once it's in photoshop proper, any image the AI helps create will be available for commercial use. At this time, its not available for commercial use.
Great video! What are the legal rights for changing someone else’s photos that you have bought? I’m running into this question all the time now when using this new tool and you are able to instantly change an original photo with little effort and amazing results. For example if a wedding couple change from portrait to landscape mode by themselves.

It is useful but unfortunately it generated at a maximum resolution of 1024x1024. It's fine if you don't post images at full resolution but if you expand the background the line between the real image and the generated background is very visible and can be quite jarring.
Generate the background square by square and you will get better results at higher resolutions.
