Exactly what I was looking for. I love the milk crate nesting box idea.

Great idea I love it! Just be careful of ventilation. Winter too much moisture + ammonia can cause serious respiratory problems. And summer time you might consider switching the boards to hardwire cloth. You could always put the play house under a good quality canopy

Thanks so much from the UK! Been considering getting chickens for a while now and been thinking about coops, but we have a playhouse in the garden 😂 Perfect thanks! ❤👌

Awesome! I've never seen a homesteading channel in a downtown area. Love it! I moved downtown in a small town and before I put an offer on the house I called the city council and confirmed I'd be able to have three chickens. Just a bit of country! They approved and I bought the house. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

That looks awesome. In the spring, could add hardware cloth to the windows for airflow. The wood covering them will be really good for winter.

This awesome!! I have had a play house in my back yard for years and it doesn’t get play with anymore and we just got chickens a month ago. I have been wanting to turn it into a coop!! That’s for the video!!

I was going to get rid of our playhouse, but I am going to add it to the chicken run as an extra coop. Thanks for the great idea! I'm going to add hardware cloth to the windows and make wood covering on windows that can open like shutters. It gets pretty hot here during the summer and cold during the winter. Thank you again! Great way to repurpose an item!

Cool vid ive thought about repurposing things like this.
Only thing i would have changed is i would have just put latches on the pink windows and maybe screened the inside for airflow depending on the weather.
Great channel btw with great content and a variety at that. Too bad more people aren't into stuff like this.

Great video! I’m pretty sure your chickens would prefer to sleep on a perch and not a in the laying boxes.

This is brilliant. Between the our swing set, our old plastic playhouse and all the leftover osb from attic renovations we can build a chicken ShangriLa with very little money or effort. Thanks for this!

I absolutely love this what do you think you'd put in for numbers if you were housing quail not chickens?
Did you leave the little holes underneath the shelf that the milk crates are on for ventilation?
Sorry I'm just crazy excited whenever it's someone with a very similar climate.

Thank you! I had these exact ideas for my playhouses but you showed me that they will work! Thank you! What kind of screws did you use? They didn't cause the plastic to leak? Thank you, again!

Great way to repurpose something. While I was watching I was thinking maybe some pine needles in between the plastic and plywood might help? My uncle used to use pine needles as insulation in doghouse walls. Just a thought.

This is awesome, but chickens also need proper ventilation to prevent ammonia build up.

I did something similar when my kids outgrew their playhouse. The chickens will use it as shade when it's too hot but they have a separate coop to roost in. You might have more "refined" chickens than I do though ;-)

be sure to post updates if you rebuild this in any way!
I looked up your video because the world's longest yard sale is going on right now and someone is selling a house just like this. I've been watching a few videos on what people are doing.
My only 2 concerns with your design is that there isn't ventilation and there's no perch/roost. You don't want them sleeping or perching in the nest boxes, I don't believe. I was thinking about putting a 2x4 across and I guess a big Branch would work beautifully as well just leaned in there somewhere even!
I was thinking chicken wire or hardware cloth. I have both of those and I think I'm going to go with the quarter inch hardware cloth inside the cape on every opening.
I'm concerned that by you putting the plywood on the outside that raccoons and other animals with claws could just pry that off and break it and chew it. I don't know. Do you have anything securing the bottom?
I didn't see you put chicken wire or cloth into the dirt on all sides or buried down across the floor.

We have a playhouse just like this and had planned to do the same idea, but then ended up getting 8 peeps, so I don’t know whether this will be big enough. I LOVE the milk crate idea!! Great vid!!
