  • The History taking, Mental Status Examination (MSE) and Cognitive function assessments are the most important diagnostic tools in Psychiatry or mental disorders. These tools are essential to make an accurate diagnosis because there are no laboratory investigations available for diagnosing mental illness or psychiatric disorders. The components of case/history taking are described in the following video. The material presented here is intended to enable students and mental health professionals to follow a uniform method of case taking in psychiatry.

One of my relatives was suffering from dipression since 20 years, she consulted many psychiatrists , (including NIMHANS Bangalore) , most of them prescribed tricyclic antidepressants ,etc but all in vain, at last one doctor at NIMHANS Bangalore, did blood test and diagnosed that she was suffering from B12 defeciency and treated with parentral B12, now she is very busy in social media.

Beautiful presentation Dear Dr Suresh Bada Math. Useful for everyone. Especially good for all our Indian students. It’s a great job keeping our traditional style of history and MSE intact otherwise I’m sure we would replace it with the western one soon. Thanks and Cheers !
