My great uncle. I'm a Gold too. His dad, Ernest Gold was my dad's uncle's brother. Sadly I never got to meet any of them they were part of the family that migrated to the States while my dad's ancestors went to Canada. The split was completely by accident but everyone just settled where they were. I only know this because my dad told me how his uncle kept in contact with Ernest and told him all about what he was like.

This song reminds me of Phillipa, I was maybe 14, when the song came out, I was so shy, my first real crush, gypsy skirts, granny boots, that was the fashion for girls then. I can still see her, long black hair and deep brown eyes. I heard from old school friends, she lost her battle with cancer last year. Maybe we can meet again, as we were then, in the next life...

Things I love about this song:
    1. The 50s stylings
    2. The harmonic sophistication, including that memorable sidestep at 2:58
    3. The drum track - generated from handclaps and wall pounding
    4. The glory of the backing vocals
    5. The sax solo - that is how you do it
    6. Andrew's gorgeous voice

Well, either way great epic beat sound in music back in the day! One of a kind! Thank you for sharing the information. May I also share, here in my country the Philippines, many Filipinos would play a similar game as kids using the similar clapping procedure of 2 or more people gathered round w/c I just don’t remember the name. The clapping is done whilst the players chant something like a nursery like rhyme and ending with a phrase “ READY, CAMERA ACTION!”
The object of the game is to stare each other at the face without blinking, squinting , or moving a muscle. The first one who does, is the first one out and eliminated, continuing in succession until only one person remains. The last guy to remain wins the game.

I love Dave, Foo Fighters are my favorite band, but this song gives me the heebie jeebiez... I think it's because it was covered by a group in the UK in the early 90s at a time in my life when something pretty awful happened to me, and now when I hear it it just makes me feel yucky, which is sad as I can see the influence this, and other songs of its ilk, have had on Dave's song writing. It's literally only one of a couple of song that do that to me. Typical lol.

After years of trying to get a multi-channel copy of this(audio engineer) I was able to finally isolate the backing vocals and confirmed what has been an "open secret" behind this song for so long; It is indeed the legendary Freddie Mercury on harmonies as you can really hear him when the line "on a school date" comes up.

This is to the Daughter of Andrew Gold.
I am a musician and I agree with you. Andrew, your Dad, was extremely talented and a musical genius. His Solo career and what he added to Linda R's sound.
    And seemingly a good guy.

This song used to be on the radio all the time when I was a kid in the late 1970s. I hadn't heard it in decades until they played it on Keener 13 Internet radio the other day. So I came here to see if there's a video, and yay, there is one! And it is so delightfully 70s. I was smiling the whole time. I could also remember the lyrics even though I was probably about 11 or 12 years old the last time I heard it.
