I have an issue with calling someone "evil" because of hateful and wrong beliefs (s)he had, as though people can be sorted into categories of "good" and "bad". I don’t think it is helpful because of these three potential pitfalls: (1) it absolves those of us who think we are good from self-examination, (2) we despair when we've done something wrong and suddenly we are a bad person (this is my summary of a chapter in Cloud & Townsend's book Changes that Heal) and (3) it leads us to dismiss even the good the supposedly "evil" person did. I believe what Alexandr Solzhenitsyn said to be closer to the reality of good and evil: "The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained." It may seem like semantics but I think it is an important distinction between calling someone evil and saying what (s)he said or did is evil. Oh and just for the record, I do think Martin Luther was anti-Semitic and that is an abhorrent belief.
Martin Luther was evil, as all men are apart from a transformation from God through Jesus Christ Romans 3:10-12 KJV As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. [12] They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Martin Luther was religious, but didn't know The Lord. His rotten fruits demonstrate that. He did good and did evil, eating from the tree of knowledge. Not condemning Luther, as he was already condemned. Just telling it like it is. He was a wolf in sheep's clothing that The Lord spoke of Matthew 7:22-23 KJV Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Martin Luther also saved many, giving them sanctuary from the pogroms and denouncing the use of violence. He did not want a massacre, he wanted to abolish the Talmudic teachings. In general, he believed in conversion and believed Jewish people that follow the Talmud should be barred from important positions, but this did not apply to converts.
How did he denounce violence if we just read ; "Their houses also be razed and destroyed." "All their Prayer books and Talmudic writing... be taken from them. " "Rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb." Sounds quite violent, or am I missing something?
@@user-xj4xn4mt1c Granted. He specifically denounced the indiscriminate killing of Jewish people and gave them sanctuary during the pogroms. What you've quoted pertains to the realm of law and what the official state position ought to be on the teaching of the Talmud. He was not for mob justice or indiscriminate destruction of Jewish property. Though I see your point, out of context it's a stretch to say someone that supports the death penalty for certain actions is 'for killing', wouldn't you say?
This is truth. As a Christian I have a hard time honouring Martin Luther for these later writings. The evil he committed negates any good. Never think you will not be judged for trampling on the Chosen people of God.😢
R ridiculous don't be ridiculous , if it wasn't for Martin Luther's reformation the Catholic church would have eventually wiped jees and even the bible from the earth!!
Righteously angry? I beg your pardon...!! Luther, for all the good things he worked elsewhere, can be claimed as one of the fathers in spirit of all antisemitism. Sad but true.

When you call for murder of millions of people and torture, just because they are Jewish.
I would classify this as evil.

Isnt it in the old testament that God prefers obediences over sacrifices? Or is that "anti semitic" ?

He gets it from the Nt and Apostolic tradition.
So the Jews were anti-Jewish?
Where in the New Testament does it teach anyone to hate Jews?
The apostles were Torah observant Jews, as well as Paul.
