Small is size but big on power the Li-Time Mini 12.8V 100Ah lifepo4 is a very versatile battery with the option to make a large 48V battery system. This is part 2 of a video in which i go over the basics, do a capacity test and then put the battery into deep freeze. Part 2 will show me do a capacity test when the battery is frozen and a complete teardown.

AFAIK, this is the only 100Ah batt I've seen that compresses the cells. Too bad it'll be nearly impossible to replace any dead cells though...
I think redodo are the same as this battery, they look identical and also use pouch cells

Not fan of pouch cells, no real reason other than the complication of more cells 🤔
I didn't expect the voltage to go up as it did, but at least now I don't need to worry about using a frozen lifepo4

I’ve been waiting on the outcome of this test following your last video. I have a 200ah Renogy and here in Scotland right now it’s freezing and I’ve been getting worried about my battery as the BMS is showing the battery at -4c. I have heard that you can destroy a lithium battery if you charge it cold so I’ve shut down the charger on my Victron solar controller to be safe. Problem is I now can’t start the van as the dc to dc charger will kick in and try to charge the battery. What id live to know is if the BMS will prevent the battery taking a charge at low temp as the instructions don’t tell me and trying to get any sense out of Renogy customer service is like getting blood from a stone. Sorry for the long message but could you advise if Renogy batteries have the low charge protection built into the BMS. Thanks in advance and keep making great videos.
Victron solar charge controllers generally have low temperature charge protection built into the units and will cut charge at 5 degrees. If it is a smart BT unit you can see this in the settings. As for your battery, it's very difficult to say for certain what protection it may have if any. You did the right thing by playing safe as the damage caused by charging a frozen lifepo4 is irreversible. I can only suggest you try bring the battery temperature up with insulation and some ambient heat. Sorry I cannot be more helpful to you. Some people choose to use a w1209 thermostat with a heating pad to keep batteries above zero.
@@DCGUY thanks for the quick reply. My Victron does have that option but I can’t see how I can connect it to my battery to know what its temperature is. Perhaps it’s only compatible with a Victron battery. I did see your video a while back about making a heat pad but I think that would be beyond my ability. I heat pad off the shelf would be great but I’ve never been able to find one. Can you help with that? Thanks again.
@@daviemclachlan Victron have a device called smart battery sense which can communicate via Bluetooth to the MPPT directly. amzn.to/48Cg7e9 but I cannot seem to find a plug and play heating pad that will switch on automatically at low temperatures. They all seem to require a w1209 or similar thermostat relay to work.
@@DCGUY such a shame no one has produced a plug and play but having gone over you video about building your own I am going to buy the bits and try to diy it. I’ll also check out the Victron sensor as at least if the heat pad fails I’ll still have protection.
