"And I hope that someday, the names of Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson-in some way-can be added as a symbol of the great Negro players who are not here only because they were not given the chance." What a class act Teddy Ballgame was.
Absolutely. People reading today wont understand the context of the time he said that... in his "im a HOFer" speech...
Love this guy
Ted was Latino that's why he said it
One of my favorite moments in Ted's life...and it wasn't on the field.
tony gilbert He was Latino?
@@langwell21 His mom was Mexican, yes.
Ted Williams is the greatest hitter who ever lived
Good job Ted.
sergioalpert66 See he believed in god
Teddy Ballgame, Boston Red Sox
Ted Williams, USMC.
Thank you, Ted.
One great player and a greater human being!
Ask the women in his life
Well Ted that day Finally Came Tuesday May 28, 2024. Josh Gibson rightfully is the new Leader with the MBL incorporated records for more than 2,300 Negro Leagues players . Josh's Career Batting Average of .372 surpassing Ty Cobb .367 as well his Career Slugging Percentage of .718 surpassing Babe Ruth .690. A long time coming.
Love this so much.
People need to appreciate how big of a deal this was at the time. Teddy Ballgame taking time during something meant to honor him, to give kudos to a few guys no one in the crowd (or the country) was thinking of...and making it a point to say its wrong...
And he says it while pointing out being competitive...
Guy was a beast. One of a kind.
Guys a legend....earned it more than most athletes with that title.
Absolute class
My biggest thrill in baseball was having a conversation with Teddy Ballgame in spring training back in 1979. He was the greatest hitter that ever lived! If he hadn't of lost 5 seasons of baseball due to World War II and Korea, he would have easily amassed more than 3,00 hits and would have set the home run record that Hank Aaron broke in 1974.
Wish I could have seen this speech in its entirety without the cuts.
Great ball player I can’t believe he was in military service for five years , would have hit eight hundred home runs !!!
Ted Williams...An American Icon....bigger than life....served his country twice in his prime....unselfish dedication to the game of baseball and ahead of his time honoring black Lives Matter
The real person John Wayne tried to be as an actor.
No zero sum games. Ted Williams was great, but he wasn't the American icon that Wayne was. Not even close. Ruth was the only one who came close to that.
@@jrbeckman2194 Think you need to do some more research about #9...
Teddy ballgame the greatest Latino baseball player and the greatest hitter who ever lived
Ted Williams' mother may have been a Mexican, but he never claimed nor identifying himself as a Latino. He always identified as a white man/Gringo.
Yes you did meet a ball player who didn't have to work hard but who made it on (tremendous) talent . . . Mickey Mantle
