- The Baltimore Ravens have undoubtedly been through one of the crazier 2023 NFL offseasons out of all NFL teams, and that can be said for a number of different reasons. But no matter where you turn, Eric DeCosta, John Harbaugh and the Ravens front office might’ve been able to pull some things off this offseason that absolutely nobody would’ve expected to see regarding both this team's offense and defense.
First and foremost with the Baltimore Ravens offense, while it’s nice to see the long term commitment of their MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, he’s only the beginning of the story. Because with the addition of WR Odell Beckham Jr, their 1st round draft pick Zay Flowers, along with acquiring Nelson Agholor, retaining Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely, Rashod Bateman, and their dominant run offense with JK Dobbins, Gu Edwards, and Justice Hill, the dual threat ability of the Raven offense is arguably going to be better than ever.
Than even in terms of the Ravens defense, while returning players like Roquan Smith, Patrick Queen, Kyle Hamilton, Marcus Williams, & Marlon Humphrey weren’t enough, the further additions of CB Rock Ya-Sin, and draft picks Trenton Simpson, Tavius Robinson & Kyu Blu Kelly to add to their depth, Baltimore might be one of the more surprising teams to many in the 2023 NFL season if you haven’t caught on to them yet.

Personally I would put it more on how the players have come back from injury not that they got injured period. Unfortunately rb are a dime a dozen in the nfl they don't care about them. Ronnie stanley taking 2 years to get back on the field is probably what did it.
The crazy part is you can't forget about how the defense finished top 3 last year as well. And with the addition of Roquan Smith they went from 12th best defense to 2nd since joining but finished 3rd overall. Raven's don't need to have the number 1 offense but a top 5 offense and defense will be scary time post season hits fair warning.

Good luck paying everyone with Lamar taking as much as he could. He better play like mahomes and be able to throw to nobodys after this year. Or keep running the football and shorten his career. Mahomes is the only qb who was paid at the top when he signed and then be able to lead an offense with kelsey and a bunch of guys to a superbowl win. Lamar has won how many playoff games in 5 years? 1 it's going to be tough sledding in the afc playoffs every year with more all time great kind of qbs than we have ever seen at one time in 1 conference. I thought for sure Lamar would go to the easy nfc with Atlanta or San Fran where he would really only be battling hertz for top qb.

Lamars 1-4 playoff record won't do. If he gets the big money he better make lesser players play out their minds like mahomes always gets at least 1 receiver like that. Love how people bring up his career high is 3100 yards. They don't bother to notice he only had 400 attempts. His ypa is the same or higher than the "big" name qb. If he had 600 attempts like them then he would also have 4-5000 yards. Hard to put up big passing numbers when you don't throw it as much

If likely wasn’t stuck behind Andrew’s he could easily be a top 10 Tight end. Todd monkens offense at Georgia used a lot of 2 tight end sets so he might actually get a lot of reps.

I remember being extremely excited about the 2021 season. This was before the devastating rash of injuries we had to our entire team in training camp. I wasn't as excited about 2022, but I was hopeful. I'm actually legit amped for this season even moreso than 2021 because Lamar is locked down, everyone should be healthy for Week 1 (assuming no training camp injuries), and we'll have a new offense that no team has tape on with multiple legit weapons so defenses won't be able to isolate 1 playmaker anymore.

@@solesoulsorrow That's precisely what it measures. Lamar's ability to throw a ball on target. It has nothing to do with whether the ball was caught or dropped, ONLY to do with whether Lamar threw the ball where it was supposed to go.

You are mistaken because you assume it's because he CAN'T throw.
Realistically,
if one pairs a quarterback with an O.C. that devalues throwing, relying only on designed run plays and very little money spent for receiver play. You will get some question marks. It's not your fault. I see where you would go wrong.
This is the reason his quarterback play has left a lot "to be desired" as you put it.
Pay attention this season, you'll see your mistake.
@@solesoulsorrow It isn't me assuming anything. That was the knock on him in college, his accuracy. He was a one read and run guy who struggles through progressions. Well, guess what? That's the same guy he is at the NFL level.
Whether or not Lamar throws a ball on target has NOTHING to do with how many times a pass is called and nothing to do with his receivers and whether they are expensive, cheap, or fall over dead. The only thing the stat cares about is WHETHER OR NOT HE DELIVERS A BALL ON TARGET, and he is one of the worst in the game at doing this.

The Ravens waited too long to adjust and move on from Roman. Not all on him as injuries to key offensive players definitely hurt, but better late than never. The Steelers have is the most improved team in the NFL with the Free Agents and Draft. And they Swept the Ravens in 2020 2021 and should have swept them in 2022 that's to Trubisky's 3 INT's in the Redzone as the Steelers held Raven QB to 30 yds passing!

I meant giving a balanced attack to Jackson will leave him with options to throw in shallow or deep coverage, run, or handoff.
It allows him the ability to assess the defense and find holes instead of excess assigned run plays.
The defenses he faces will have to decide how they want to cover him and ultimately who they want to lose to.

It amazes me how, we never give enough credit to the "small school players". Not everyone can make the squad at the "top schools" or there was a reason, they had to stay home and play closer to home, so these young men go and play at the not so big schools. This doesnt mean they arent as good as other players, they just didnt play for the same schools. I say that to say this, stop sleeping on the guys who dont play for these "top schools". History has shown that even undrafted players and late round picks, do BIG THINGS in the league, even leading teams to multiple SB's and even making the HOF themselves. Tom Brady..... Point proven

It’s the same story every season. Sign mediocre (once big name reciever), draft a 1st round receiver and talk about an evolved offense. Lamar is a great athlete. Not gonna hate on him. Harbs is a great coach. Not gonna hate on him either. But I do think the younger/newer generation of NFL coaches are making significant leaps than the old school ones. Maybe there needs to be a change in ideology within the coaching staff.
Could swing either way. 1. We drafted a bust and obj is washed or 2. We have Lamar throw for 6000 yards with his soon to be lethal weapons and we win out
@ Kai Sommers In case of scenario 1:
A.) That would be a rough year for OBJ as he is playing to prove to the league that he is worth a damn. At least, if he doesn't work out it's only a one year salary cap hit.
B.) We are living in a post Geno Smith world now. Sometimes players may take awhile to develop. It sure would be nice if Flowers hit the ground running because the Ravens are ready to go NOW.
C.) They would still have Bateman, Likely, Duvernay, & Andrews... (I'm not sold on Agholor yet) And perhaps Kolar will take a step. 🤷♂️
The only problem with the ravens so far is that we have no idea how the offensive gameplan is going to go. I'm hopeful but the new oc could reduce their run game effectiveness and we don't know how much better the pass game will be. I think worst case scenario they're about as good as they were at the beginning of last year, which would be a pretty good scenario honestly. In terms of just talent, this is probably a better all around team than 2019, though they don't have the same surprise factor they got out of Lamar that season.
I wish them luck (ravens) but they have been egg layers with Lamar in the post season and he laid his share of those eggs! It's not as bad as dook Prescott laying turds at untimely moments of games! I'm not sure how to rank Lamar. He better show he is worth being the highest paid player in the NFL! No more excuses!

Unless Flowers can run all of his routes between the numbers this won't amount to much. Lamar simply doesn't throw to the outside enough. That's why Hollywood quit on them. He wasn't being utilized like he wanted.

Remember Lamar Jackson has the accuracy record for 400 + passing games when he passed for 442 yards with only six incompletions and they say he can't pass the football he will have multiple 400 yard games this year and don't be surprised if he breaks the all time passing yardsge record of 4474 yards this year
He also had 2 perfect passer rating games in 2019.
What unit of Baltimore doesn't feature a top player? QB, RB, WR, TE, OL - all look like strong points individually. S, ILB, look very good. DL and CB average at worst, with Humphrey and Clowney. But let's not forget that they kept the Bengals at bay in the playoffs last year. Jamar Chase didn't matter in the second half. This team can beat the whole AFC.
As a lifelong Bengals fan I can honestly say Lamar Jackson is the best player and all around athlete currently in the league right now
