    Traveling to Laughlin, Nevada has always been a favorite thing for me ever since I was a little kid. My favorite part of coming here was to always ride the Water Taxi's, but every time the water is low I get sad that I can't get to ride those boats. It was always exciting and relaxing for me. Used to get all day passes for them too sometimes. Used to stay in the Colorado Belle at the time but sad that it's now closed. That place will have a special place in my heart. Loved this video, great view of everything there!

      I still love Laughlin because my place is the Golden Nugget and has been for 25+ years. and since Landry's owns GN I can use all my Gift cards for room stays and meals every time I go so its essentially FREE for me.Used to hang at Pioneer a lot but not its just depressing with ZERO table games!

    I go down there almost every day. Don't try this down by Harrahs because there is a hole about 80 ft deep. I've walked halfway by Harrahs to the middle but that's as far as I could go before it dropped off. Be safe.

    Ran across your video; we've stayed in Laughlin almost every year since 2010 while on our way to Quartzsite in January, when they used to let RV's park above used to be River Palms. Now even Harrah's closed their convenience store and RV lot, but there is still places to park for a few nights.

      It still is...they hold the water back from lake mohave to fight the insects that are near the water....they get really bad in the summer...so they will hold back the water in the morning during weekdays to kill the lavar from the insects that be flying and making more and more babys. This is the only natural way so far they have tried that actually works and drive them away for a little while...people see this and come out here and underestimate the river flow and get swept away....look up the deaths in july and august 2022 on the colorado. You will bw surprised. Again...its only this low because the water is being lowered to fight insects....natural insect control on the colorado river....

    You might be interested in checking the headwaters USGS gauging stations. Natural Colorado river flows up there are only 10% lower than recent historical stream flows. The remaining loss of water in the river is due to water diversions, which have been increasing for decades. Guess what happens to the downstream river reaches and reservoirs when this happens.

      With 4 times as many people and 8 times more agriculture in California than when the Colorado River water storage projects were constructed, it's no wonder there is a water shortage. Continually asking other States to solve California's water needs seems impractical, especially when desalinization is at their doorstep to supply the growing water use. It might make their agricultural products less competitive with imported products, but GEE WHIZ!

    Thanks for showing the water levels there.....hard to find! The real problem is that Colorado is diverting Western Slope waters (by a trench and tunnel system) to the Eastern Slope.....to serve the growing population of Denver and the Front Range. If they need and continue to do this......the desert southwest will continue to dry up!

    • @timrytting
      @timrytting 2 роки тому

      Sorry, but that's not the case, there isn't any way for them to do that. It's just that there hasn't been enough snowpack in recent years to fill up Lake Powell and Lake Mead. They are not diverting water to Denver!

  • @Hurricane0721

    To be perfectly fair here, like most major rivers the Colorado River has some very shallow areas that you can walk across, and some very deep areas of water where you better know how to swim if you want to cross the river. However, you’re correct that the Colorado is a river being loved to death.

    • @AstraLuna-o9i
      @AstraLuna-o9i 2 роки тому

      It’s not supposed to be that clean. Historically before it was damned the Colorado River was the siltiest river on the planet, moving millions of lbs of silt a year, especially during flood seasons. The dams completely wrecked the ecology of the river, turning it from a warm muddy River, to a cold clear river. Thousands of species of native fish have gone extinct, as well as amphibians, birds, insects, reptiles, etc.

    I was wondering what was happening downstream of Lake Mead. I have been watching a few UA-cam channels from people covering the water levels in Lake Mead. With another year of La Niña forecasted for this upcoming winter and spring, the water levels will probably drop to dead pool in Lake Mead,so no water will be flowing downstream. With So. Cal pulling water from the Colorado River mainly Lake Mohave and Lake Havasu, next summer you might be able to walk across the Colorado River without getting wet.
    By the way, the water is crystal clear.

      It's not an infestation, it's just where they live - their natural habitat. They feed the fish, so get rid of them and you get rid of the fish too.
