  • Helloo, we’re Ida and Jakub and we’re just back from Bansko, where we spent the first 3 days of the new 2022!
    -
For the past 2-3 years we have visited Bansko several times but always outside of the ski season, so we never got the chance to test the skiing conditions. We love it for it’s old houses and beautiful architecture, the easy access to the Pirin mountain (and not only!), for the delicious local food and because it’s becoming a favorite spot for digital nomads from all around the world. The previous times we came around it was quite chill without many tourists, but this time at the start of the season and around New Year’s eve it was so much more lively and full of visitors!

We rented an AirBnB in an aparthotel Predela 2, where we had our own kitchen, which proved to be very useful. The place was very close to the gondola as well. We also had access to a small SPA in the hotel with a pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna, perfect for relaxing your legs after a day on the slopes! Both of us bought a 3-day lift pass which was 230lv (115 Euro) - Bansko is the priciest ski resort in Bulgaria. I (Ida) have most of my ski equipment already, but Jakub rented all he needed from Mega Ski Center. He opted for the premium option and ended up really happy with his skis and shoes. The guys from Mega Ski Center were super helpful and accommodating, even though I was only renting a helmet from them! They always offered us tea, coffee or homemade wine, which was very sweet!

It’s important to mention that in the morning there’s usually a long queue for the gondola, it was especially bad on the 2nd of January when most people had sobered up and were ready to go up the mountain again. We queued for 30ish minutes that day before we got in, however once we were on the slopes it was fine, it wasn’t too crowded or anything.

The weather was perfect for almost the entire time! Sunny and no wind on days 2 and 3, our faces burned a bit, even though we had SPF 50 applied. The skiing conditions were really nice - all slopes and lifts were working and had enough snow, no ice. It’s worth saying that there are a few places for food around the slopes, but they are all quite pricey (for Bulgarian standards]] at least), so we were packing sandwiches and tea instead and it worked perfectly!

As for our skiing - well, we were pretty rusty! Last time we had the chance to ski was over 2 years ago in Slovakia, Jakub’s home country. And before that it was even longer! So, we’re not the most technical or fast skiers out there as you can tell from the video, hahah. Hopefully, next year we’ll be able to dedicate more time to it and maybe hire an instructor or convince some skillful friends to share the knowledge. Also looking forward to trying snowboarding eventually!

This little video description turned out to be a wall of text, but we hope it might be useful for somebody :)

Really appreciate the kind words Lorimer, especially since you are an amazing videographer yourself 🙏🏻👊🏻 If you want to visit Bansko we should talk about organising a trip there while we are in Croatia. I want to bring along more people there and just organise an epic trip. So if you are down we could plan something.

for beginners and for a few days as you say it looks fine. But I would get real tired of the 50km of pistes and that one slow blue back after a day or two. Especially if i was a snowboarder 😅

Wish there was more detail such as how many lifts are to get to the top, are there any queues, etc

I need to ask, Ive been to bansko before. So at the top, i see this like "off piste" section you took footage in, with the bushes and stuff. How do you do that bit? Thanks
