After a long break, we are excited to bring back the Village Life series. This time, we're trying something different. Our previous episodes were mostly scripted to convey our message as quickly as possible. The problem with that is that the videos took a while to film because we struggled to memorise our lines. So, this time, there is no script, no proper plan-just a raw look at our life. We a...

We first visited Belogradchik in August 2019. Back then, we travelled by (very hot and not ventilated) train, stayed in a village near the town (by accident), and were still in the early stages of our relationship. Now that we feel more mature, haha, and have acquired a car and a dog, we felt like it's time to visit again. It was fun going down the memory lane and remembering where we ate, what...

After a few years of missing them, earlier this year we finally set to go and see the Surva celebrations with our own eyes. We set ourselves a challenge, completed it and it was great! We've had this wood fired pizza oven for ages now, but we only use it to make pizza like twice a year. That's why we decided to challenge ourselves to use it for all our meals in one day. We attempted sandwiches, pulled pork, bagels and a mysterious banana dessert. Watch the video to see the outcome!

Here's the story about our wee cat, Stinky. We wanted to have cats in the future, but having recently acquired Vulcho and still in the depths of house renovation, we didn't think it was the right time for a kitty. Well, the universe had a different plan and dropped Mr. Stinky in our care. He quite literally attached himself to us from the first minute and essentially told us "I'm yours now, lov...

Moving from City to a Village in Bulgaria | Village Life EP 1
Love it guys, great story, well shot and edited, I moved to north Bulgaria 6 years ago from Holland, we just finished building our house in a small village. I'm from England, my partners Bulgarian, we have two small children here and we love it for all the same reasons you do. So nice to see more young people living this lifestyle.
Hey! Thank you for your very nice comment. It's amazing to see others living a similar life style. We can't wait to bring up our kids in this environment. Will be a lot of fun for sure!
1:26 the side eye 😄 "Ok, I think that's enough guys" 😒🐕❄
Greetings from Stara Zagora. Been following your channel from the beginning and loving your work @Ida and Jacub. I've also moved to Bulgaria from abroad with my wife 4 years ago, living in her village in the Rose Valley now. Your videos capture the life and freedom in Bulgaria better than I am able to describe in words to my friends and family back home. Thank you for that and happy new year!
Hey! One of our friends has family in Stara Zagora so we were there two months ago - very nice place, I love the parks. Not sure if we have been to Rose Valley but when we did the Kom Emine hike we see a lot of nice small villages near the Balkan mountains. It's definitely hard to describe what living in a village feels like to a person who hasn't experienced that. Funnily enough a lot of my family ended up living in villages. My grandfather moved back to his village in Slovakia after living in the capital most of his life. My dad married a polish woman and ended up moving to a village in Poland from London and now my mum bought a property in a village in Slovakia so she also goes there from the UK. Each of these villages are very different from one another. One is super perfect - way too perfect for me wanting to live there (I still love it since I grew up there and it brings a lot of nostalgia). The other two are interesting in their own way but very low on population so it's more quiet. I think we hit the right balance with the village we live in. Enough of my rambling, haha. Happy New Year!
@@idaandjakub Yes, we live in one of those villages near the in the Rose Valley (close to Kazanlak) and next to the Balkans. We see a lot of Bulgarian folks and mixed couples returning from Germany and the UK to to the village life over here as well. To me it seems like time travel as Bulgarian villages nowadays remind me of my childhood in Germany in the 90s. So I love the nostalgia and the freedom I feel living over here, which is especially great when starting a family.
Lovely video ❤
Thank you - hope your house renovation is going well. :D
@ it’s a slow process 🙂
Guys, you literally warmed my heart with this video! 🤍✨
We are very happy that we did! :D We wish you a Happy New Year!
Wholesome video 🤗 Happy holidays! The jump + roll at 10:58 was slick af, Jakub! Parkour! How did you travel abouts Slovakia 😮? You brought Vulcho too 😊 How did you play so much in the snow without your hands being bitten by the frost? Some special gloves?
Thank you, hahaha. We drove there - took around 11hrs over the span of two days. Vulcho is now an international dog XD. I was also surprised by the gloves or maybe I was too excited about the snow fight that I forgotten about how cold my hands are.
That was impressive 😂
Happy New year Ida and Jakub, and congratulations 🎉 nice to see you again.
Thank you! We wish you both a happy new year too!

Love your videos, really great quality! You guys inspire us! Jakub can you talk about how you went about learning the language?
Hey! Thank you for the kind words. I'm originally from Slovakia so it's naturally easier for me to understand Bulgarian. However, Bulgarians tend to talk fast so it's still very difficult for me. 😂 So I had to get a teacher. I get one lesson a week. The teacher is great. But I don't do my homework (always find some excuse) and don't practice speaking enough with other people. 😅 I'll need to start doing all that, mainly the speaking part if I want to get better.
@@idaandjakub keep up the great videos! It's probably the best Bulgaria videos I've seen. I was there earlier in the year, are you working in film / video editing over there?
@@JayDeLeon much appreciated Jay 🙏🏻 How was your experience here? I mostly film/edit internationally - only done a few jobs here. Mostly because the pay is way better elsewhere and I already have international clients that I worked for while I was living in the UK.
@@idaandjakub I really liked it there. I've been watching videos about buying property there. When I was there, I saw a lot of beautiful houses and abandoned houses retaken by forests. There aren't many good property videos though but lots of available property, maybe an idea for you ;)
Much better with no script! Best of luck to both of you - it’s crazy you don’t get more views on your videos, the quality is great.
Thank you Kaare! About the views - it's probably because of our inconsistency 🤷♂
I love Jakub’s reactions! ❤😂

Love the filming and editing. Such an adventure. 🤗🤗
Thank you! Super happy you enjoyed watching.
Maybe a bit off topic question: I am curious in what language do you guys communicate when it's just the two of you? English?
Hahahah, yeah we communicate in English. Sometimes we try in our languages. But to be honest at this point we make up our own words. 🤣
@@idaandjakub haha, that's precious 😁 I found your channel accidentally when searching for experience with either relocating to Bulgaria or buying property there, didn't expect to find the extra layer of bilingual relationship story. Looking forward to your updates on the renovation and life in Bulgaria in general.
What's going on with the house?
good question😅an update is coming soon!
This is such a lovely video! Who knew bees were so huggable🥰
I know right! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
where do you get the hotel dear people?
Think we got it from Jysk. 😅 But now that we done some research on the bees we will probably build our own and make it bigger and more functional.
It is unbelievable. One such bee settled on my balcony in Sofia. I was wondering exactly what comes next from all this work, and you explained it to me in the clip. :)
Before we found these bees I didn't even know that there were so many different types of bees out there. I thought they all just produced honey XD Everyday is a learning day I guess.
Lovely We do need to encourage the bees for sure. We had wasp nests around the house and would take the nests with the live larvae inside to feed a honey buzzard at the Green Balkans rescue centre in Stara Zagora. The buzzard absolutely devoured them!
How the hell did you remove the wasp nests? Do you need to allocate the queen and the rest follow?
@@idaandjakub they were only small nests which were created in places which put us at risk of being stung, like under our garden table or back of a chair, or around the front door so Darren would just wait for low activity around the nest and then knock it down.
Super shots! What lens did you use?
Your 100mm f2.8 macro 💁🤣
What bees do you have in your garden? :D
I have mason bee cocoons in cold storage waiting for great white north weather to warm up enough to place outside by their new bee hotel :)
@@catherineincanada1874 that's amazing! Have you been doing this for a while? We would like to make more hotels and learn how to care for them better.
I'm new to this with mason bees@@idaandjakub In previous city life I always had overflowing gardens, with sheltered areas & a water fountain, so bees butterflies dragon flies & lightning bugs naturally drawn to their own oasis. Now here in great white north it's bit different, so adding mason bees & bee hotels, bird houses for swallows & hummingbirds, bat house & loads more pollinator friendly flowers, herbs, plants, shrubs, fruit trees, & of course trees to support local pollinators & wildlife. One magnet for bees butterflies & other beneficial insects is Joe Pye Weed, genus Eutrochium. Despite the name, it's scent is cross btwn lilac, honeysuckle & sweetest of roses. Good soil stabilizer, low maintenance, loves watery spots & grows over 5-ft tall, with beautiful small pinkish-purple flowers. I'd highly recommend if you can find it!
@@catherineincanada1874 Wow that all sounds amazing and we would love to create something like that when we move to our Bulgarian home. I don't remember seeing the Joe Pye weed but hope to be able to get some.
