An important correction: ALL Orcas are part of the Dolphin family, but all Dolphins are Whales. So technically an Orca is both a Whale AND a Dolphin!
Thank you very much for this little correction. I hate it when I hear people say that Dolphins aren't Whales
3 but I'm keeping one so 2
You're right but it's distracting to call them whales all the time. Certainly their behavior is like their first cousin (the bottle nose dolphin)
@@rachel8904 All dolphins are whales, so it doesn't make a difference there
They are in the toothed Whale family. Separate from the Baleen Whales
To keep this majestic predator captive in a tiny pool while forcing them to do stupid tricks is pure evil.
It truly is unforgivable
Why isnt this practice banned yet?
SABOTAGE these shows and don't go?
@@after_midnight9592its called business .
we still do this to humans... so it seems foolish to only care about the handful of circumstances with orcas. honestly though it would be nice to have specific areas near the coast where humans can interact with wild orcas, they seem smart enough and curious enough to want to be near humans on their own terms.
It's heartbreaking to see Kiska slamming her head against the wall. That's how Hugo of the Miami Seaquarium chose to check himself out, leaving Tokitae as their last surviving Orca. Her current conditions are just as heartbreaking.
It really is, I can’t believe how small of an eclosure they’re in, but saying that and human made enclosure wouldn’t be big enough. Did you enjoy the video?
@@EverythingExplainedd absolutely! It's always fascinating learning about these incredible beings.
@@WhiteDwarfVR4 great thank you, its my best video I think, but hasnt done that well. New Orca video this weekend dropping!
Tokitae may be released within the next two years. The will of the people working for it is there, the money is there, the logistics are being worked on, the next thing we need is NOAA agreement and permits. #freelolita
@@Icarus_II I sincerely hope all the talk is more than just hot air. She really deserves so much better! Being in Central Florida, I know I will continue putting as much time as I can.
Well done. One of the best short documentaries on orcas I have watched.
thank you, that comment means alot to me
I think so too after binge watching orca videos. 15 min clips are usually optimal, the editing is great and I like the narrator's voice.
@@EverythingExplaineddKeep up the great work 👍
thank you!@@totalhysteria
Absolutely fantastic ❤
What I find really cool about orca evolution is that their ancestors came from land. Surviving on land is a very hard evolutionary pressure compared to water. It's almost as if the evolutionary traits that they picked up on land gave them the ability to become absolutely dominant in the oceans. For eg., where sharks will hunt and live alone, orcas coordinate in pods and have a learned culture.
iv never heard that before, but its fascinating!
They’re indeed the most intelligent creature to realize sooner than humans that matriarch in the only right way to function
@@streamsan580OK feminist
@@streamsan580Nah equality is better. Dont know why im seeing feminist politics on a orca video but alright.
@@ThePixelPodcastDo the washing up
Even marine mammals respect their grandmas. Granny's are really the best even as orcas ❤️
Orcas are crazy smart.
We were only close to them for about 20 minutes in WA State back in 2010.
In that 20 minutes, they got my Mom's bank account information and convinced her to transfer ½ her life savings to their pod. She was positive that one of the Orcas was a distantly related Pacific Ocean Prince and had been trying to get his massive inheritance to her for a while. It was just caught up in escrow and customs, and if she just paid the transaction fees she could free up her inheritance.
Crazy smart, and devious.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
hahahha
Hahahaha hahahaha!! 🤣That’s hysterical!
This is why I want to be marine biologist to learn more and hopefully protect my favorite animal
Search George Costanza marine biologist,he will help you.
Their superior intelligence is amazing.
It is, imagine if one day we can communicate with them!
@@EverythingExplainedd
Would you consider orca whales sentient like us humans or semi sentient, like non human apes?
This video was fantastic on so many levels. Well done! And your wrap up was absolutely on point. 👍🏻🙏🏻
thank you so much!
Human: Orca comsume livers out of their shark prey, remove it with surgical precision.
Orca: Human consume sharks's fin.
fair
The main difference here is that shark liver provides a huge nutritional benefit for orca, while shark fin soup is a status symbol
@@coloradostanley3231exactly!!
Ha, I think the only reason they haven't attacked us humans yet is because they don't know we have livers.
Yeah but they probably already realized how poisoned our livers are w/ a bunch of trans fat junk food 😂
They learn as juveniles what is food and what isn't. they learn that from the adults. Thus if the adults do not teach them that we represent food they won't ever consider us as such as juveniles or later as adults. Thus whenever they run across us they'll either ignore us or approach out of curiosity. They're also very careful when we're amongst them. They truly are amazing creatures.
Not all Orca eat livers some eat only fish it depends on the ecotype.
They can see right through us with their sonar. Some whales have no doubt seen our livers.
I absolutely love orcas. They are my favorite of all God's wild creatures. I pray that we will one day learn to communicate directly with them.
We consider ourselves to be the superior intelligent race, but the Orca displayed more intelligence by not harming or attacking humans, which they see as also intelligent beings just like them.
Much easier to not body slam something with your own body than to not do whatever
@@SecureHandle Well if we are born without limbs then we would also end up body slamming too. 😶
All the videos I watch about marine animals makes me want to become a marine biologist even more
What do ya call it when Orcas hatch a plan?
Orchestrating. Or when they study science: Orca's traiting? idk.
I love this video, it was the best watch I've had in a while. Thank you!
thanks so much! I knew it was a banger when I made it and it was a really bad performing video, but thankfully now its picking up!
@EverythingExplainedd I'm glad to hear that! I can tell that you put a lot of time and research into your vids. You don't always have subject matter I am interested in, but I watch because of the high quality and effort 👌
Great documentary and narration. Thank you
Such magnificent and highly intelligent creatures. I recently had an opportunity to witness them in the wild, and I was overcome with a lot of emotion, because I know how they are treated by us. I wanted to know if there are ongoing efforts to stop harming them, and how can a common person be involved in these efforts???
I would LOVE to experience that, they truly are magnificent and that’s from a TV screen. I think there are a lot of orca charity organisations
There are a couple of whale sanctuary projects trying to rescue orcas and belugas from captivity into open sea pens. My professor is involved in one in Nova Scotia!
Thanks, I will look into these :)
Poor grandma orcas never get a break lol have to work til they die
Life time grind
You missed the hunting technique they use where they swim in tandem and create a large bow wave that literally washes the seal off of an ice floe.
UA-cam's arbitrary algorithm brought me here, and I'm certainly glad it did. Seriously great content, keep it up!
Thank you so much, I loved making this video, did the ending hit you in the feels?
@@EverythingExplainedd It definitely did. I was honestly expecting the video to spend more time diving into the darker end of what happens when orcas are kept captive in Seaworld style conditions, but was very happy that the vast majority of it was focused on what makes them so amazing. I subscribe to a bunch of paleontology, biology, etc kind of channels and have certainly been fed a bunch of Orca videos over the years, but you really slammed this one out of the park. The information, editing, infographics were all fantastically paced. Again, it's really crazy to randomly click on a algorithm suggested new video from a growing channel that actually slaps hard!
@@ph03nixflame Wow thank you so much, comments like this are so motivating! In my earlier videos I definitely rushed my script writing and research which led to less captivating videos & also knowledgable people calling me out (and rightly so)
For this video I spent ALOT of time researching as I knew it would end up in the eyes of people like yourself so the last thing I wanted to do was have wrong info
I think for y channel im better off spending 1 month or so on a video when I have free time to make sure its a banger rather than pumping alot more, lower quality videos
A great video ,with an even greater message at the end
Orcas are far superior and smarter than we give them credit for, that planned attack in unison just proves they have their own language and are capable of understanding things on a higher level.
👍👍👍 Such a beautiful and fascinating creature, excellent and informative video highlighting the urgent need to protect them.
I hope to never to see one in captivity !!!
Another great video in the growing catalogue of Everything Explained
thank you so much! Number 1 fan right here, appreciate the support as always dad 👍
We cage them and deny them freedom that is promised to all people. Dolphins are people of the sea. They are a people and sentient as we are.
Great video. For all the reasons everyone else has already said, great video. Thank you for sharing it with us.
They are smarter than us. They aren't killing each other like we are.
yeah true
you didnt have to make me cry at the end like that
Great video CJ 😉
Thanks Senne! How you doing
I'm doing allright, it's great to see you still making video's man, the quality is sick
I become sad for the Orca at the end of the video... I am heartbroken they dont deserve to be in captivity! The Orca crying breaks my heart.
Great video
thank you
This might be the best UA-cam video I’ve ever watched
Now that is such a compliment, thank you so much! I hope this video takes off as its one of my worst performers in my last 10 yet I think its probably the best video iv ever made
@@EverythingExplainedd single handedly made orcas my favorite marine animal🤩keep doing your thing
The juvinile orca took away from his family and cry broke my heart 😔😔😔
Because orcas are mammalian kind like us orcas fell pain, suffer and they grief too 😔

Orcas are literally part of the dolphin species. It should not be shock to anyone how smart they are when they are literally part of smartest species on earth
true, they are huge Dolphins & Whales with a massive brain and a big body, truly the Kings & Queens of the ocean
I love the sneaky spy hops❤😂❤
great video
thank you! I think its my best video
Why I can't believe this I love orcas like no animals ever attack an orca and I'm so lucky that i love orcas😍
Orcas are amazing
Easily my fav animal on planet earth. Thank u free willy for introducing me to such a gorgeous creature.
truly, have you watched Blackfish?
@@EverythingExplainedd Blackfish was wrenching to view, but necessary. It suggests that their is hope for humanity as laws have been passed across the world to make the activities of the 60's and 70's illegal. Even beyond the ''laws'' is the widespread outrage and boycotts that would make such activities unprofitable for these lawless corporations.
The ending of this video lagit made me cry Orcas are my favorite animals in the world before Dolphins its sad and heartbreaking
It did me when I edited aswell, they’re amazing creatures
@@EverythingExplainedd yes they are and don't deserve this suffering they're as smart as humans and yet we treat them like they're just some dumb animal they're my favorite creatures ever since I was little
I hate just knowing people like the idea of an orca attacking another human what is this damned world coming to people like that are so disgusting they need to check their heart to see if they have a heart well I can see not that is really sad
You don’t know how smart I think Orcas are
I do@
Orcas are fucking terrifying. They’re at the top of the food chain in the oceans
Orcas can drown a shark when both of them swim underwater...Woah
So heartbreaking 💔 13:59
Honestly, when I first found that music and the footage, I had a tear
i've never thought orcas were smarter than i thought:) i've always considered them to be the second most intelligent beings on earth - somewhere i once read if an orca would complete a human IQ test he would score at about 5-6 points:) that's obviously just the statistical margin of coincidence if you count in that one question has up to eight possible answers, but the real shocker is that they apparently are ABLE to follow such a test in kind of a meaningful way, a shark (or dog for that matter) wouldn't even know what is asked of him.
that is incredible, I think one day we will be able to communicate
Keep in mind an IQ test is flawed even for humans, and it is designed for humans.
Their intelligence is something we really do not comprehend. We have an inkling, and some evidence that suggests some minimum capacities. They may be more intelligent than we are. Or they may have the potential to be.
Consider the intelligence of a person who had no education or significant socialization growing up. They don't just lack knowledge. Their ability to learn is diminished. We have grown up with tools and curricula to help us develop our intelligence and knowledge for thousands of years. Orcas don't have the same level of dexterity we have. Their intelligence may be more developed in other ways we don't understand. Or it may have the potential to develop far beyond what we could expect, if they had some interface with technology that gave them the kind of dexterity we benefit from.
When it comes to human understanding of intelligence, one thing is certain: Our understanding is extremely limited. Arrogance has given us great confidence in areas we should not have such confidence. Animal intelligence is perhaps the best example.
And who's the 1st??? Please don't say humans all we do is lie, deceive and destroy!!
The Orca is the most evolved animal on Earth.
yeah for sure
Meanwhile humans still have their trachea and stomach in the same big hole 😂
Even more than humans? even though they don’t do what we do like building rockets & going to the moon. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doubting their intelligence, it’s just that some people make it sound like, they’re fully sentient. Like us humans (or that’s just me), but to me they’re still animalistic, (same, applies to elephants & non-human apes) because most of everything they do is for survival, from socialising to hunting. Yeah they like to play, but other animals can do that like dogs. The only treats that I find very intelligent of them. is that they make different vocalisations which is similar to us with different languages. And that they’re very emotional, self aware & compassionate. But that’s it, so to me there semi sentient meaning that they’re not fully sentient. But they’re close, but most times they’re still pretty animalistic (such as still following there primal instincts). You understand what I’m saying?
@@damian5528 Humans have a pair of hands, unfair to compare what we can do with hands to orcas, they are ocean animals and evolved as ocean animals, just like how humans are land animals and evolved as such. Orcas wouldn’t need a pair of hands in the ocean. 2. They are probably fully sentient, just because you’re human doesn’t mean you have more consciousness than other things. 3. Why would they not follow their primal instincts unless there’s a reason to suppress it? Humans follow primal instincts too sometimes and orcas need those primal instincts too. Please clarify the “semi sentient” because it sounds ignorant to me, why are “dogs” not fully sentient either anyways?
@@SecureHandle
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to be ignorant, so don’t take that the wrong way I don’t think animals are stupid, Definitely not. They have minds just not like ours. Because they’ve evolved to live & survive in their environments, that including orca whales. But the way they’ve learned to live & survive, has obviously made them more intelligent to the point. That when they’re not busy, surviving they like to socialise, play & they grief. But that’s as far as their intelligence can take them right? Whereas us we started out like that, until we began to evolve beyond, just living & surviving. We can create & do more things then they can do, that’s what I was trying to say & I guess semi sentient is the wrong word animals are indeed sentient.
Heartbreaking seeing these beautiful creatures in captivity 😢😢
Thanks 🙏🏾
Orcas and a few related species of dolphin are the only animals in the entire world with more cortex neurons than humans.
Just to clarify, this does not include bottle nose dolphins which have less, the species you usually think of when you hear the term 'dolphin'.
yeah their brains are incredible, we are definitely lucky that they don't attack us... yet
@@EverythingExplainedd They are standing up to us in the Mediterranean near Spain. Sail boats are having their rudders bitten off.
yeaH i made a video on it!@@jacobsockness571
I can't get over how big some of these fish get.
Best video on “Orcas”
So perfect and superior
They are my spirit animal! ❤
I think main reason UAP's dive to depths in oceans is communicating with orca, whales, porpoises. They are the ones who are intelligent enough to know and report.
killer whales are whales, all dolphins are whales they are toothled whales, not all whales are dolphins.
Yeah the overarching group they're a part of Odontoceti, but as a sub specifies Killer Whales are part of the Dolphin family, not their own sub species which many people assume or technically, they are all Cetacea!
Our world is indeed fascinating. Even on this small planet Earth we already know for sure that there are several species of animals that are very different and very smart compared to others. I'm really looking forward to when we learn to communicate with animals like Orcas, I would be incredibly interested in asking them questions about various concepts or perhaps explaining them. They may not be able to understand mathematics, physics, etc., but they will probably be able to tell something related to things like compassion, emotion, and so on. This will also make it possible to understand how different animals are depending on the structure of the brain. By exploring them, we can be relatively prepared for meeting creatures from other planets, because I am convinced that they will be completely different and everything that we perceive as human beings (for example, art) will be very different. It's also amazing that I can experience emotions of satisfaction and joy thinking about it or writing about this topic. Stop killing orcas, humans, they may be smarter than humans in terms of empathy, don’t make them grief because you wouldn’t stand such a grief at all!
I am VERY Thankful for this Video !! I LOVE Them a LOT 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

One of the most beautifully and fascinating animals. Probably the second smartest living thing besides us of course
Defintely, theyre amazing
Quality video this..
Infuriating and heartbreaking the cruelty us human can consciously inflict on the world
All captivated orcas should be released instead of monetized for some aquariums gain.
0:01 dude sounds like my cat when he's hungry
Humans are disgraceful in their pursuit of Orca capture and social conditioning.
Simply heartbreaking, no words to describe these monsters.😢
0:27 Peekaboo I see you😊
What if we tried espoused them to TV, film, music, social media and basically all types of media to see how they take it in?
Orcas have something that a lot of humans do not. An understanding of physics
Humans only possess destruction...the only thing a human knows how to do is: Lie, Deceive and Destroy....that's all
Dolphins are whales.
yeah I meant to correct that, as a whole group yes. I more meant to say that Orcas come from the subpopulation of Dolphin, which is surprising to most people
They are all mammals as well and breathe oxygen so they are all lovely.
Deaths sweet embrace, meme and the seals are both dead right now😂
That was a seal on the ice, not a sea lion.
And then, when the empress ran aground
And my eyes turned blue and green
I heard a gorgeous sound, and that's how it became a dream
When the sky fell in, and the hurricanes came for me
I knew I had to crash again,
And that's how I became the sea.
Owl City.
Why would I have an opinion on how “smart” orcas are? I barely have an opinion on so-called human intelligence
If they released orcas from SeaWorld, it could be pay back time. I think when those trainers were killed. The orca was trying to tell them, they were sad and had enough. Their Dorsel fin shows their feelings. They are a beautiful creatures and should never be put in captivity 😂😂😂😂😂
It is just SO cruel that they are kept in captivity for our own fun, in tiny little pools
True, the dorsal fin thing is not true tho. But yeah
Most likely not. Since those Orcas have either lost or never had the natural insticts to surivie in the wild. So they'd all die quikly realised.
@@nuotatorre8741 Yes, a orca was released from the whale jail and thrived but she was lucky and taught by a pod. So the ones born in a captivity in Sea World might not know how to survive. And the dorsal fins do not show how they are feeling mentally
Wild animals I would trust, in order: Orca, Orang Utan, Dolphin, Lowland Gorilla, Shoebill.
Excellent program. They are so smart and love their family. I wish sea world would shut down.
Orcas are whales, because dolphins are whales.
The sounds go through their melons, not their blowholes.
Yeah I worded that part really badly. I meant to say their subpopulation is a dolphin not a whale, which is true, but like you said, all Dolphins are Whales so they are both
I love orca's there so beautiful
Same
My favorite animal ever since I was a kid 🖤🤍🖤🤍
The seal that got thrown 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Orcas have been recorded doing that wave technique with life rafts to get them to shore. They know to do it much lighter than when their hunting so they don't capsize it.
yeah theyre very clever
I want to be a killer whale because they don't get water in their nose when upside down.
I want to see one one day ❤
We humans and our entertainment
Really bad isnt it...
The end always upsetting 😢

Won't hear me argue. I didn't even have to watch the video.
did you watch it tho? I bet you'd enjoy it!
I wonder if there is a restaurant that serves orca
Orcas should be in their natural environment,...the ocean that's why they attack their trainers
Much smarter than you think. Well, depends on who does the thinking, I think.
I think you may be right
If he says “military grade Precision” one more time
What you gonna do about it?
6:38 I was more bothered by the females being called “women” 😂
The last part is sad😭
that was my goal, to hit home the hard truth!
Maxim gun allocation 😊
Do they sleep?
Wow
they're impressive right
this is why they're my favorite animals (i didnt even watch the video i just wanted to say it)
I hope someone has seen orcas kidnapping whale calves in the new BBC Earth series mammals
I wouldn’t believe a shark bite would effect an orca at all, an orca bite is so much stronger, I think they can handle it.
Strength doesnt matter at all. If a bite wound is bad enough or gets infected then that wound can kill. Doesnt matter how 'strong' the animal is.
But that's for later. During the encounter, size matters. A human could bite an elephant and it could get infected, doesn't mean the human won or it's a draw. Infection is more like a third party thing.
It's the damage from the bite that matters the most, and in that case, a shark bite wouldn't faze an orca. Orcas weigh 6-8times more than great white. A bite from an orca would destroy a shark.@@CleverClover2023
9:15 The reason why they can surgically remove sharks liver is because they see it. ...the same way the make distinction between salmons or easily identify pregnant women. They're like giant moving MRI machines.
