    If your looking for beetles they tend to fall in swimming pools a lot and 90% of the time they’re already dead and the legs are easily bendible.

    I found a dead ebony jewel wing damselfly (my favorite insect), so I decided to try mounting it. I'm watching videos before I do to make sure I do it correctly, and this was very helpful.

    Since some insects "wake up" after freezing I do a 30 min freezing time, take the jar a out and place a cotton ball soaked with alcohol to put it in the jar, and return the jar to the freezer. That way you avoid the insect dying slowly, the after freezing wake up, and damage of putting them directly on alcohol because of how much they move when they touch alcohol (sounds cruel but thats how it is)

      freezing insects for long enough is painless to them, despite being a long death. it is like dying in your sleep, because they pass out before cold can become painful.

    Can I just glue the bugs?

    • @limewarrircat4292
      @limewarrircat4292 6 років тому +7

      Sorry but no. The glue,no matter what kind is,will destroy your insect's wings/feets/head etc;also some insects have something like a jelly on them so the glue will just destroy as I said...
      Good luck at everything,mate!

    • @mejbishow2776

      but add packs of salt in the corners so to keep humidity low,so they won't decompose.

      You can get a piece of Tupperware (plastic container) and put in some foam so the insect stays elevated, then you pour boiling water in the bottom and interchange it for a couple days, and the bug should be back to a more reliable state

    I know that this is an old video but why do people rather want to pin insects than seal them in resin blocks like an artificial amber.

    • @yourlocalgrubdog3345
      @yourlocalgrubdog3345 4 роки тому

      Because pinning is a tried and true method used for hundreds of years. Resin is still relitivialy new, and resin can have it's own complications (expesialy if you don't already know how to resin)

    • @yourlocalgrubdog3345
      @yourlocalgrubdog3345 4 роки тому +2

      Oh, and resin can also be fairly expensive :p pinning is cheaper.
      (Not trying to say using resin is bad. Just that these are why pinning is more common!)

    • @blooky102
      @blooky102 4 роки тому +1

      @@yourlocalgrubdog3345 BTW the bugs i do have in resin still have bright colours except from the praying mantis that is whiteish brown.
      I personally like resin more because they literally preserve the insect forever.
