- Behind the scenes at the 2023 NCA Championships with Weber State. The WSU cheer team won the 2023 Grand National Championship in April 2023 in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was the sixth-straight national championship for Weber State.

It started with seeing a bunch of videos showing Caylee Odle doing really great stunts. I admired her athleticism and decided to see what school she represents. Since then, I have been following Weber State for the last year as they progressed and checked out their past performances, too! This is one cohesive, determined and talented team. They deserved this win and step up to the D1A!!! Kudos! 👏💖🏆📣🤸♂️🤸♀️
Saw 1 video with her and a big Samoan guy doing some a routine. Got hooked.

Love how you can see Celieste is literally crying in anticipation right before they announce the Champions, then bursts into joyfully celebration Weber is named the best of the best. She's achieved the pinnacle of the sport and I'm glad all her work paid off. A champion, forever.
Normally I don’t like most of the competition videos because they rarely show the athletes close enough to appreciate the routines. That definitely doesn’t apply here. Kudos to whoever did the editing. And even bigger kudos to these athletes. The skill and dedication really shines forth.
This is absolutely amazing! WHY ISNT THIS AN OLYMPIC SPORT?!? Pure athleticism and grace. Wow. Just wow.
It at least should be a demonstration sports this year.
As a 66 year old fat guy I have no idea why I get choked up over this.

No way any of them are that big. I'm guessing 80-90. My wife was 5'2" 105 when we married and she wasn't as slim as these girls. Nevertheless, I would rather watch them then the football game. They have to be 15 feet off the ground on some of those throws. Being 61 I can always remember how strange it was for a guy to be a cheerleader. We had a name for those guys back then but I wouldn't call any of these guys a name, they are total beasts and very athletic.

For context : in 2023 Weber state ( located in Ogden , Utah ) had just made the transition from division 1 ( with schools like Sacramento state) to division 1A with ( with schools like the dominance of Oklahoma state and Louisville ), the divisions are based on how many total students are enrolled in the school
Division 1A: 100,000 students or more with at least a football and basketball team ( Oklahoma state , Louisville )
Division 1: 5000-20,000 with at least a basketball team ( Weber state , Sacramento state)
Division 2: 5000 students with a baseball team ( Oklahoma Baptist )
Division 3: schools like champan college
Junior colleges : Navarro , trinity valley ( where you get your associates degree )

Does this mean Division 1A is the highest level ? How does Weber State compare to Navarro? I started following cheer recently and have no idea lol

It goes by how many students are in the school in the general population ( not just the Cher teams which means
division 1A is the biggest (10,000 students or more with a Masters , Bachelors and Associates or doctorate academic degree program )
division 1 ( 5000-10,000 students with at least a associates / masters and or bachelors program )
division 2 ( approximately 5000 students with at least a associates , masters and or / bachelors program)
division 3 ( approximately 1000 with at least a associates degree program )
2 year colleges like Navarro and Trinity valley ( in hindsight , Navarro and trinity valley are feeder schools to schools like Texas tech , Oklahoma and Weber state where you get your associate degree )
@@yomi_jeremy3964Important to note though that Navarro and tvcc are up there with the best of the best. Both of them have won several Grand National championships which is when they score the highest scores across all divisions at Daytona

This team is nothing short of some of the greatest athletes in the world. Congrats (5 months late). I’ve watched a few vids over the last six months. Über impressed.
I was a Cheerleader for four years at Utah State fifty years ago, (yes, 50!!) I watch Cheer and Dance fairly often and I am so, so tired of Navaro!! I just caught your winning cheer and I have to admit to screaming a bit, the kind that girls my age only get to do for fat football players. I am not only proud that you are from my home state, I am proud of everyone one of you because I know. I have no idea how you do what you do, but I know where you pull the fire from. Watching this, just confirms what I know. You pull it from each other and it is beautiful. Congratulations to all of you and to they group, which, in the end, is one of the best parts.

I loved how I get to attend cheer camp with them this year! They taught me so ma y things! It is so cool that I can spot some of them in this video and be able to say there names and know that they taught so many cool things!💜

Raising two boys in their sports and seeing the cheerleaders constantly changing and improving their routines and with all the boring, crap sports added to the Olympics, how could anyone Not want to see the excitement and athletic ability these young people would give to the Olympics!

High-level competitive cheerleading demands respect. The girls are tiny and lean, but all muscle. The guys have to be insanely, deceptively strong. No pads, no helmets, just grit and dogged determination, hearts of warriors. All the while, having smiles you couldn't knock off their faces with a sledgehammer.

This should officially be named and deemed to officially be a part of Gymnastics, If it isn't already. I dot really know anything about " Cheer" other than being a spectator, but it amazes me at the strength, skill and work that goes into it. It is quite impressive. As much money as these Universities make, I wonder. Any athletic scholarships for Cheer? Make it a conference sport like Gymnastics, or Football.

If the Spartans of old could teleport into the future to select new female warriors, they would select these amazing athletes. Their ripped abs make me want to go workout intensely for a year. Then add to that, the incredible strength and abilities of these men. Goodness, I am so freakin' inspired!! Congrats Weber State. You are urterly EPIC! ❤️

That level of hysteria is quite frightening. I know it's a competition but life or death does not depend on it. The emotions on display are way, way over the top for reasonably adjusted human beings.

1:35 there is a kind of "chest hold" or "chest toss" how does a coach ask his/her athletes, "hey, it cool if he puts his hands on your t*ts?" in Hollywood they have liaisons that coordinate these things because it is an opportunity of problems to arise. that would be a weird ask. maybe the girls just know if they are going to be in this sport there is going to be some intimate touching.
If you’ve ever been to one of these performances, the music these teams use is almost all the same. It gets really repetitive after the third or fourth performance.

Not bad, but I must say, there is a glaring lack of pyrotechnics, stage effects, and honestly, circus animals (maybe just stick with elephants and bears on that one; monkeys would just get in the way). Also, a live band would not go amiss. Just imagine it--fog machines, lasers, strobe lights, flame jets, maybe an explosion here and there, and they could have the whole team ride in on elephants and bears, who would then participate in the acrobatics, while Fallout Boy (or some equally catchy but generic-sounding band) rocks an epic riff. I guess what I'm saying is, if you're going to put on a show, just lean into it, spare no expense, and make your competitors crawl under a rock and die of shame.
JK. Well done. 6 national championships don't happen by accident. That's some world-class commitment right there. But for realsies, I really would like to see some flame jets and bears in the mix at some point. See what you can do about that. God bless!
