Thanks Jack , GBH is on my tbr for 2021so look forward to that ... Epitaph sounds very interesting and I like the sound of the multiple voices , so hard to do well....I have The Savage Detectives / Bolano , again hope to get to that this year ...Happy New Year
Hi Hester, I’ll be curious what you think of GBH. I have not read The Savage Detectives. That will probably be in my future reading at some point. Hope you have a Happy New Year! Cheers, Jack
Love, love, love Circe! I need to reread that, hopefully this year. Foucault’s Pendulum did not work for me, but I did eventually finish it. Happy New Year!
This was my third attempt at Foucault. That was a dense and weird work. Circe, on the other hand, was a perfect reading experience for me! I hope you have a Happy New Year. Cheers, Jack
I didn't realise we are booktube twins until now. How lovely! I suggest you don't read Benjamin Myers latest novel as it is a bit disappointing compared with his others. I think because he was trying to write a happy book.
I purchased Epitaph a few months ago. Haven’t read it yet. Really looking forward to it. Saw that it was referred to as an American Iliad. Will watch for your review of it. I see that a lot of people like Song of Achilles even more than Circe (though, like you, I love Circe). I have an Foucault’s Pendulum on my TBR for a long time. Probably will still be a long time before I read it. :)
I hope you enjoy Epitaph. My wife noted the American Iliad description. I don’t know if that emerges fully, but I think Russell accomplishes a lot of other things incredibly well. I’m looking forward to reading The Song of Achilles. I generally prefer the Iliad to the Odyssey, so we’ll see how Miller’s novels stack. Hope you have a Happy New Year, Stephanie. Cheers, Jack
All of these sound great! I plan to read 2666 either this year or the next one. Have you read The Savage Detectives? It was a very slow read for me, but very rewarding.
Thanks, Yasmin! I have not read The Savage Detectives, but am interested when I pick up a copy one day. I did read The Third Reich, which is an early novel from Bolaño that went unpublished for decades. It uses war boardgames as a device for exploring some of his recurrent themes. I play a huge number of board games and didn’t really enjoy the book at all. I think it was unpublished for a reason. 2666 was much more interesting and enough to encourage me to try more Bolaño. Hope you have a Happy New Year! Cheers, Jack
I really enjoyed Circe when I read it. However I read Song of Achilles in 2020 and it is one of my favorite 5 star reads of the year. I hope you enjoy it! 🤓
Booktube is made better by your presence. I haven’t forgotten about your email inquiry re: Dickens a couple weeks ago and will get a response fired off to you soon, my friend.
Wow Jack! Is that 'To Walk the Night' a nyrb edition? It's beautiful! What Ana amazing swath of books you have here. I am reading Foucault's Pendulum in the latter half of 2021 with Jason and would love if you would join in. We'll see ass the time draws nearer 😊 much ❤️ brother
Thanks, Noah! Yes, it’s an NYRB edition that collects Sloane’s two horror novels. The reprint is called The Rim of Morning. I might be up for another Pendulum Swing. We shall see. Cheers, my friend, Jack
Happy Anniversary! Interesting list
Thanks, Brian!
I think I have a copy of Epitaph I never got to. I really liked The Sparrow so I know I like Russell's writing. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Thank you, Sonya, and a Happy New Year to all of you as well! Now I can add The Sparrow to books I need to read after Epitaph.
Cheers. Jack
Happy New Year Jack. Ok Ted Lewis is a must this year. I will also take a look at some of the other books you read. Kind regards.
Thanks, Michael, and a Happy New Year to you as well! I’m on the lookout for Istanbul Passage myself.
Cheers, Jack

So many hot prospects on this list of reads. Thanks! I loved 'Epitaph' too!
Thanks, Barbara, and Happy New Year! I am always glad to find an Epitaph fan now that I’ve finished it.
Cheers, Jack

Thanks, Jason, for the kind words! Looking forward to your thoughts on Dickens. I hope the year is starting well for you and Kelly.
