  • It's no secret that there exist many Gran Turismo imitators, but finding one on the Gameboy Advance was a surprise. How good can a racing game on this old handheld really be?

    Man... someone tell dustin a seat upgrade, albeit sounds superficial in a game like this, a bucket seat hugs you better, allowing you to tackle corners harder. This game is brilliant!

    • @NailStrafer
      @NailStrafer 5 місяців тому +13

      Yes it actually makes sense that a racing seat upgrade would help you corner better. Years ago, when I did IRL autocross in my car with its stock seats, my body would slide sideways during hard cornering, making it harder to hold onto the wheel and turn. If I had proper racing seats, that wouldn't be a problem.

    I think the creators of these tracks might've had a few too many DOPS.

    Also the pink Vitz is in so many games cuz it was a real color lol. Rose gold for sure, tho the earlier/later models may have more straight pink. Ive seen the third gen in a pink but it looks painted, but the Vitz/Yaris models came in a ton of crazy bright colors.

    I own a physical copy of this game. It's a superb arcade racer with a surprising variety of cars. You can unlock weird stuff like Karts if you complete all the tournaments in all difficulties. I vaguely remember there being an advantage to completing everything in 1st place.
    Top tip: Press Select during a night race. It will toggle everyone's headlights on/off.
    Edit: Do Drifting, if you haven't already. It's really fun. Time Attack events also unlock stuff, if memory serves me right.
    Edit #2: That dude's right: you rarely need to brake, if at all, on most circuits. Just let off the throttle.

    As one of the biggest fans of this game, I can recommend you trying GT2 Advance due to it being Rallye spec. It is way harder and has track elevation

  • @NailStrafer
    @NailStrafer 5 місяців тому +8

    I can understand how a racing seat would boost your handling stat.
    For most cars, their stock seats have little side bracing. Thus, your body will start slipping out of the seat under hard cornering, making it harder to hold onto the wheel (and thus turn). I ran into this when I did IRL autocross in my Miata and its stock seats.
    A racing seat does a much better job at keeping your body locked into position, so you'll have an easier time holding onto the wheel and turning it.

    Glad to see this game getting the spotlight it deserves, thank you for that - I've played GT3 Advance for years (it was the last "new" game that I got for my aging GBA-SP) and I absolutely loved it. I didn't own any other consoles at the time and GT3 Advance was my first foray into the unique JDM scene. It eventually prepared me for Gran Turismo PSP, but I'd always go back to this just for nostalgia.
    They need to bring this series back, it was such a good game.
    PS: If you're interested, the second installment's a rally racing game, so something like A-Spec (featuring rally tracks and special cars in differnet countries, suspension/gearing tuning, everything you'd expect in a rally game). The first one's basically the third one but even lower resolution - however, it doesn't have a misleading car count, you can add body kits to every car and it even has dirt tracks.

    the taillights portion in the sprites is probably transparent with a generic pixel texture underneath it that turne gray /red for braking instead of a whole new set of sprites... if i was the developer, that's how i would of done it.
