I am really impressed with what you have done with these pencils, there is only one other person that I have seen on you tube that did the pencils justice, now I think Derwent should send you the rest of the set, so there are more tutorials using them. Well Done
Wow, I am watching this because I just bought my Derwent Inktense pencils and haven’t used them yet! I know I will never achieve anything as impressive as your beautiful bird but, I am so inspired to try them out! 💕🇨🇦
You answered the questions I had, especially about using the white block. (Oil painter here, so I'm accustomed to a forgiving medium. Make a mistake? Paint over it.) It's the vibrancy of the colors that have drawn me to the Inktense line but I'm always aware of the permanence of the pencil marks. This was a good introduction to using the products. Nice work.
Thank you for the video. I have both the pencils and block. I have had them in a drawer for over a month. I’ve been trying to find some tips and tutorials before I open them up. This was very informative. Only reason I got the blocks was because of your review. I’m glad I did. Every one online said the same thing if you can get both.
I love the results you achieved and really appreciate your insight into the products. Great to know that the white block is so useful. You did a wonderful job, both on the bird (which is adorable) and the review. Thank you much.
I can’t draw for toffee but I’m trying to learn. I bought the inktense pencils and have just bought the blocks. I so badly want to be able to draw amazing stuff but I think it’s going to take quite some time
+K. L. Onassis I knew they were different, but I couldn't even imagine HOW different they were until I actually played around with them. Best Christmas present ever!
I bought these on a whim a while back. Haven't played with them much but it seems I'm gonna have to order a white block or white pencil since the 12 pack doesn't come with one. It's got 2 reds and 3 greens but no white. And all the videos I've seen with these, the white seems pretty crucial.
Oh, I highly recommend picking up a block or two... I'm looking at the ink black and bark blocks for just old fashioned ink wash drawings/paintings. seriously fun stuff!
I don't really get what the blocks are for or how to use them. I guess that information is just a youtube tutorial away, and I should stop being lazy... I really love your work. Thank you!
the blocks are kinds of strange... they are kind of like a watercolor pan, where you just wet a brush and take pigment from the block... but in stick form, so you can actually pick up the block draw with them as well. It's like the best of both worlds!
I think I watch everyone’s fine art videos here on UA-cam and I LOVE your content! Hope you start post more often. Check everyday for a new video from your channel. Keep up the great work
Thank you so much for this very informative video! I just bought the same set of Inktense pencils & really didn't know how they worked! Once I saw this, I ordered a few white color blocks! I hope I have the amazing results you had!😁👍
Just wanted to let you know that eBay and Amazon uk usually have really great prices for Inktense pencils. I bought mine from the uk and they didn't take long to arrive at all :D Your bird is gorgeous have fun with your new toy!
That was a great video. If you had another video that slowed down and showed a bit more in terms of process and what you were choosing and using that would be super beneficial for a beginner like me.
Great vid ! Thanks for sharing , those kinds of video are really motivating ! That's great to know you can achieve so much with such a limited palette .
+bleuvertetforetdepin that's great to hear! That's why I do this whole UA-cam thing! I really want people to be inspired to pick up some supplies and have a go for themselves :)
Thanks, Cassandra. I am way more a beginner than you, and I found the video to be both encouraging and humbling. There is just so much I don’t know about making drawings and paintings. Thanks, though, and I think I’ll get some Inktense blocks and see how it goes.
These are fast and fun to use, but I don’t think they’re going to be the next big thing. If you get a chance to get a set of 12 blocks on sale go for it (just grab a white to go as well) you will definitely have fun! But I doubt we will see them in any major galleries any time soon
Intense pencils etc are not colour fast at all. They’re lovely to use but if you sell the work it can’t come with any guarantee it’ll be as vibrant in a years time.
+Pam Sanby most of the pencils I used were blue wool scale rating 8, which is pretty dang lightfast.. I have heard that Derwent are investigating the lightfast rating of the diluted product too, but we'll have to wait to see the results of that. I could never sell this piece, as it really is just an experiment... but I must say it scanned beautifully! So if I wanted to make prints I could do so easily. These were so much fun to play with, so until there is a final say in the lightfastness of this product, I feel the permanence can be slightly overlooked, I think if I ever create something good enough to sell, then I will stick to making prints and keep the original in my big folder of precious pieces I can't part with.
it is something I probably should have spoken about in the video, I spose I'll have to make more Inktense pieces so I can cover some of the pros and cons of the medium :)
So happy for your video as I had purchased a box of 12 inktense last night by mistake. I wasn't sure how to use them either but you did such a superb job that I'm happy to try them out .
I have to say I've never heard anyone describe ink as waxy. Ink is never waxy, that's a contradiction in terms. Anyway....your painting is beautiful, but you have lots to learn about Inktense. They are not watercolor they are ink, water soluble ink. It like comparing meat to vegetables. There really is no comparing. They behave differently and they look so different. Please see their website and other videos using Inktense. I'm sure you will love them. Would love to see a video after you know them. Thanks for sharing. Kathy B. (Fairylady0227) 💜

Awesome drawing and “painting”. Now I have to get the blocks as well. TFS!
OMG!!! You are absolutely amazing...you're incredibly talented..super impressed
I saw these at Craft Alive and fell in love ... Mine come today. I can't wait!!
Wow, I am watching this because I just bought my Derwent Inktense pencils and haven’t used them yet! I know I will never achieve anything as impressive as your beautiful bird but, I am so inspired to try them out! 💕🇨🇦
Oh I bet you’ll create something wonderful!! Have fun 😊
I loved your work, and the way you explained how to use inktense ❤ thank you

Beautiful…and a very helpful tutorial as I am waiting for my Inktense pencils to arrive. Thank-you!
Ooohhh, you will have fun :)
Thanks for sharing. I've no idea what to do with mine, but have an idea now.

Beautiful work!!!!!!
Wow great result! I love working with inktense, I love that they dry down permanent so there is no lifting. Definitely different than watercolour!
+K. L. Onassis I knew they were different, but I couldn't even imagine HOW different they were until I actually played around with them. Best Christmas present ever!

I love using the ink intense pencils on bockingford hot press water colour paper
Great video - interesting to see you use the blocks and pencils together.
I haven't used the blocks but I LOVE the pencils!

the inktense are fun and quite forgiving, I'll bet you have a bunch of fun learning!
You are so talented Thsnks for the video Elaine u k
Excellent demonstration, you're dad gum good! Do you think this is the art medium of the future? Really helpful. These are expensive, however.
These are fast and fun to use, but I don’t think they’re going to be the next big thing. If you get a chance to get a set of 12 blocks on sale go for it (just grab a white to go as well) you will definitely have fun! But I doubt we will see them in any major galleries any time soon
Inspired!
Thanks
Very cool! I subscribed.
Could you explain the brushes you used? The fine line cut was a modified size? I'm learning. Thank you! ❤

Cassandra Hanley sorry just wanted to let you know just in case you didn’t. I must admit, I have pieces I can’t part with too.

It’ll be good to see your pieces.. I do like your artwork :)
+Pam Sanby thank you 😊

All I can say is wow! I can only draw stick figures. I have the 24 count but Incan color and not draw 😢
So happy for your video as I had purchased a box of 12 inktense last night by mistake. I wasn't sure how to use them either but you did such a superb job that I'm happy to try them out .
