I'm actually very impressed with JJ, and I now see why scouts and coaches are raving about him. I can personally see him becoming the 2nd or 3rd best QB in this class. Dude throws some amazing balls in some very tight windows. I saw so many high NFL tight passes that were so impressive. He would be perfect with the Vikings. If he lands in a Shanahan type offense, I believe the dude will be good. He needs a really good running game in his early years. However, it won't take him long to be the type of QB who can step up and lead a team. I know many of you are completely out on this dude at 2, but I still feel he has an amazing upside.
Plus he's a real leader.... after his pro day... all the players got in line to dap him up or hug him. Didn't see that at any of the main qbs pro days Jayden or jj , I don't can't... just get it right

If J.J. McCarthy and Brock Purdy switched college teams I'm not sure either would've done better or worse than the other did. Purdy was 256th in the draft and McCarthy is all of a sudden a top 10 prospect, it will never make sense to me.

You have a lot of similarities with my trade back mock drafts. The main difference is your priority on a WR whereas i gave more priority to an Edge & CB. Here is where im at on some of our positional needs: QB: JJ over Penix although i do have Penix in one case and the draft came out better than I expected. OT: in a trade up i target Mims and im curious why you didn't consider him. With no 1st round trade up I hope for kingsly but usually wind up with Morgan. I definitely agree with the strategy for a second tackle and we agree on Kiran. I will also grab Guard Zak Zinter if I don't have to sacrifice another priority. CB: I usually take TJ Tampa. If he doesn't fall to me I usually wind up with a mid tier prospect like Melton or Sainritril. Edge: if Darian Robinson is there at pick 36 i go for him. If not I usually wind up with Dorlus. TE: we agree on Sanders and he is often my choice but he has been dropping lately and I'm not sure sure why. Based on scouting reports I actually like Cade Stover even more and he can be gotten with a later pick. Safety: only considering one and that is Cole Bishop. However, I'm not sure i would take him over my WR target ir the guys i have already listed. WR: I consistently tried to manipulate my mid tier trades to keep Brendan Rice available. The only other WR i chose was Tahj Washington. If neither are available i look for best available but has to be at least 6'. Pick 222 is generally best available.

I like the first scenario; I thought McCarthy was in play, if we traded back. He is the ultimate game manager, with some upside, dual threat, accurate, processes quick, good arm. Now I would trade a second, 67 and move up to Miami/Pittsburgh, for a better LT. If Cinn deals, that's great. Second scenario is fine, but takes more players. I think we trade for Hendon Hooker, not pick Penix, and we double up next year's firsts, for our franchise QB. Penix is too injury prone. So we would first get an agreement to trade a 3rd for HH. If you can't do that, then maybe Penix, but we still get a franchise QB in 2025, or, we do scenario 1.

Penix will be a career backup with injury issues. He wasn't even great in the championship game.
