  • The ultra-chopper is attached to your phaco tip in place of the phaco needle and it can then harness the ultrasonic power to effectively cut into even a dense nucleus to divide it. Once the nucleus is split into quadrants, the regular phaco needle can be placed on the handpiece and quadrant removal can be accomplished. In this case, the cataract is not very dense but the resident surgeon uses the ultra-chopper to become familiar with it on a more controlled case.

    Great job for a resident!
    If I were his attending I'd still want the chopper in the para protecting the bag before he elmulsified the last quadrant.

    Excellent job young fellow.
    I will encourage him to use the non dominant hand more, specially when is emulsifing the nuclear fragments (can do more chopping out of the bag).

    Looks like a top up to the technique of manual fracture from Dr. Brian Kim. Does it have any benefits over it? (There you don't need any additional chopper on the phaco tip). What's the name of the chopper on the left?
