Such an incredible run of songs towards the end of this album. It sort of teases and promises light at the end of the tunnel with the yearning and bittersweet Ultraviolet (Light My Way), leading perfectly to this powerful number, which for me is the best on the whole album, then suddenly all hope that may have been hinted at is obliterated on the beautifully bleak Love Is Blindness. It’s like the best kind of knife to the heart imaginable. It’s U2 shedding their old selves and reinventing themselves as their best form with this album. They were in a darker place mentally and it helped them to create a true work of art, which will stand the test of time.
yeah albums-wide themeing is cool like this, i started karaoke in public and the sequence you described of Achtung is something can do with full soul with challenging / entertaining rock voice and practiced super loud over and over midnight cleaning jobs by myself burned in soul especially because they all blend together as you said, leaving a bigger little world of feelings memories thoughts to draw on burned into me!
I cried like a baby when I heard this live the first time in 2018. Still gets me every time. In dreams begin responsibilities. America....are you paying attention?
I did too. I've had a few really emotional experiences at U2 shows over the last 30 years but this was so heavy and so relevant. I hope things don't get as bad as I feared
U2 at their peak form doing a hard rock song. Just the most incredible song of all times. The Edge's guitar riff and screaming/howling solo is soooo hendrix style. Amazing.
Or even Robby Krieger of The Doors in "The End", they both lift you in the air and slam you against the walls, when you down listening you are exhausted, but its the only thing that can peace down your insanity...
All songs in Achtung Baby are history of popular music. 25 years later they sound modern and fresh. One is the world superfamous hit of Achtung Baby, but Ultraviolet, Acrobat and Love is Blindness are an epic end of this epic album.
....ON A TINY ISLAND CALLED MALTA, YN POLIO- POSITION AS FERTOSH+FOETJOE, NOX-NAMED PROHYII, THE GIRL FROM THE SKY, 365 000 YEARS AGO, SO SO SOTHISSSHH JUST, I KNOW ARNAUD...
I feel very fortunate to have been born in 1967; being a teenager when U2 appeared on the scene in the early 80’s up until Achtung Baby when I was in my early 20’s.
This track should be in a movie where a battle or some kind of team challenge event that takes place. 02:40 the unexpected, underdog hero steps up. 02:47 he takes the field as he crosses the point of no return. 02:53 the enemy takes notice of this novice who they didn’t even view as threat. All the spectator’s eyes are on him as he begins his fighting stance. 03:30 the hero starts dispatching the enemy’s champions with relative ease while moving swiftly and gracefully. Each new champion he duels increases in skill and prolongs the conflict until he faces the Ultimate Champion. He slays him as well after a little bit of difficulty and raises his arms to show victory. In the end this hero remains until the conflict is resolved and sorted out. Then retires and mysteriously disappears willingly only to be immortalized with tales told of him for generations to come.
Powerful lyrics!!! This song moves me and I can describe a time of my life that I felt exactly the way U2 described in the lyric. I finally learned the lesson of don’t let the bastards grind me down!!!
I must be a lucky person. When I was just turning into my ‘teens, this masterpiece album came out. And some time around then, Nirvana arrived and we already had Depeche Mode, The Cure, Michael Jackson, Madonna and and and. Universe, thanks for the timing.
15 years old, tape-worm I, when he listens for the first time to this wonderful jewel. They've actually never played this song live. A shame really, but I guess it's better that they didn't... Just imagine if Bono tried to sing this song nowadays.
WookieeWarrior Something's really weird happened to Bono, If you compare concerts from Achtung Baby era and nowdays, even interviews and other appearences, it seems like he's totally lost his tough/macho guy style and moves. Now he seems all frightened, like he lost a huge amount of selfesteem for some unknown reason. I wonder if his eye problems have anything to do with it.
Don't believe what you see or hear . I guess trust your instincts. And look out for those signs from the Father in heaven. Michael ❤ My Time is Coming. 💜 It's Rampant Evil , But Love Conquers All And Will Reign Supreme Forever And Ever. Amen. 💜💙💜
Well it's easy to trust others for relief and answers with healing yet God is love and I'm learning this with others as long days can let you down in a million ways.
Reading through these comments makes me wonder how many people know what this song is about - Bono wrote it about Margaret Atwood's book, "The Handmaid's Tale". Brutal. Such a great song and book.
Great song...They have so many amazing B-side tracks it blows me away. God knows why they release garbage like "Wild Honey" and "Stuck in a Moment"...amazing band @tahoevic...The Edge and Tom Morello don't get enough credi in my opinion b/c they don't look like rock stars
Yeah, no. The guy was saying how they BOTH are underrated/undervalued, whereas you made a direct comparison, saying that one was " > " (read: "better than") the other. I award you NO points, and may whatever God you worship have mercy on your pitiful soul.
@Rev...did u just refer to me as "The guy" on my own thread?? Lol, it's Nick from now on please n I appreciate the sense u made of my comment. Besides anybody w/ Ravishing Rick as their icon is aces in my book! @Lara...why so angry?
Introducing me to this album was one of the few genuinely benificial things my abusive father did for me. Of course, he still had to be a dick about it, but it really is a good album.
My friend at school said that Justin beber got married to Selena Gomez I said “Don’t Believe What you hear don’t believe what you see if you close your eyes you can feel the enemy”
Wait a minute, you can't really compare these guys, they are not of the same genre really, but I appreciate what your saying- I agree that the edge is one of a kind, but Van halen rocks too, you know, don't discredit him, that's all I'm saying. (and Clapton of course)
To me it's a message from the love of my life that died his favorite band was you too and we're dealing with a horrible woman of a bastard that was his Aid that got a moving truck after he died and two of her sons and robbed him blind. The family is going to sue her and they have witnesses so I take it like this is a message from him to not let her grind us down while we're grieving.

Edge’s best solo. One of my many favourite U2 songs because of it.
I cried like a baby when I heard this live the first time in 2018. Still gets me every time. In dreams begin responsibilities. America....are you paying attention?

You're a great human being
Rolling, tumbling, booming bass and drums and Edge flying all over it, love this song, U2 at their best.
Exactly! Could not have said it better myself!

U2 at their peak. Truly beautiful album and this song is fabulous.

100% HIGHLY agree!! Always been a U2 favorite of mine. I loved their early work, but A.B. is what made me love the band.
It was always one of my favorites off of this amazing lp.
Is this song about an actual acrobat
Maybe..
Not in our book 😌
One of the many U2 songs i love 👍
I must be a lucky person. When I was just turning into my ‘teens, this masterpiece album came out. And some time around then, Nirvana arrived and we already had Depeche Mode, The Cure, Michael Jackson, Madonna and and and. Universe, thanks for the timing.
Eleni M, the same situation.
I could say that period of my life had a very relevant influence in the way I am today, and I feel really well with it
One of the best songs ever.
More poignant in this day & age than ever. Visionary piece music.

The must beautiful song of U2 for me....
Best song on their best album.
+Mark Blecha One does not simply chose the best song from Achtung baby! :D
Maybe, but still, this one is the best.
Totally agree, a little missed gem which, I doubt they play live. Inspiring lyrics, don't give up. Don't conform and don't let them break your spirit.
They've actually never played this song live. A shame really, but I guess it's better that they didn't... Just imagine if Bono tried to sing this song nowadays.

U2 you are genius
Superb song from a superb album
Still sounds and feels like the 1st time I listened to it in the early 90s--- Achtung and Zooropa were the end of 'great' U2 for me.
Fantastic Song
“In dreams, begin responsibilities”, wish I would have figured that out a couple years before I did.
Lat reply but it is the title of a short story by Delmore Schwartz that I highly recommend reading!
This song really defines the early 90's best intro to the 90's.

Sin Duda U2 en esos años Giro 360 ° grados de The Jhosua a Achtung Baby. sin duda Achtung Baby es adictivo . cada vez que los escucho suena mejor .
