Nice video. I had that same model fail. The dial cover popped off and something internally came apart. The warranty process was quick and easy. But the replacement doesn’t inspire much confidence. I need to check if the new one is the updated version. Since then I got a good deal on a used snap on so I brought the tekton home. The broken one is sitting in my overflow box.

Thats interesting, they are selling off all the 32 tooth models to the UK market - I wasn't able to find any retailer selling the 72 tooth model in the UK, only Amazon selling the 32 tooth - I had to import the newer model and after this video i'm glad I did!

I don't care about the old wrench, as I have the new one, so now we're just experimenting. May also do a video of taking it apart to see how a split-beam torque wrench actually works.
I was definitely impressed with the service. Not saying their tools are the best quality out there, but for the price and customer service and going to stick with the brand for most of my purchases.
Tekton is simply amazing. I have broken the 3/8 breaker bar a few times and now they don’t even ask for pic. I absolutely believe they are far better quality and service then snapon.
They most likely kept the model number the same in order for people who bought the older torque wrench to qualify for a warranty replacement, because as you know, lifetime warranty only applies to the lifetime of the tool, and the moment the model number changes, the lifetime has expired. I learned this the hard way with a different company who decided that changing the color pattern of a tool was justification enough to change the model number even if nothing else changed and thus voided everyone's warranty who bought the older one. which goes to show Tekton is looking out for their consumers cause that head redesign would have been more than enough to justify calling it a new model torque wrench.
Thanks for the insight! I honestly didn't realize that was how "lifetime" warranties worked. If that is indeed the reason Tekton did what they did, I'm even more a fan of them. Cheers!

This is one of the biggest mysteries to me. Why would anyone buy an Asian-made rip-off instead of buying the original and legendary American-made Precision Instruments Split-beam torque wrench to save less than 100 Dollars?

As of this comment, the Tekton 3/8" split-beam is $115, and the Precision Instruments 3/8" split-beam is $138. You'd have to be crazy to buy the Tekton just to save $23. I bought the Tekton because I had their rewards and a gift card, so with shipping and tax, I paid $7 for mine. My 1/2" is a CDI, so I do own some nice tools : )
@@rckclmbr85 You paid $7 for a torque wrench? I'm impressed and I would do the same thing when I was young and I didn't have much money back in the 1980s and 1990s. I was saving for months to purchase each of my Proto torque wrenches. Each one was over $300.00 Canadian back in 1997 and 1998, but I don't regret it because the quality was as if they were made by Rolex. I still own them today and they look like they just came from the factory. Electronic torque wrenches were just a dream for most people, even professionals until recently.
That's quite an investment! I do appreciate and am willing to pay for quality - especially if it's made by my "neighbors". Sometimes I have to be practical. Those Protos do look nice, though... : )
Lesson learned the hard way! Actually broke the cylinder head bolt on my vintage Honda trail 90 with a cheap-o. Have since upgraded to CDI. I suppose if you are only doing lug nuts, it really isn’t that that crucial.
Damn! I'm sure that was fun to extract and repair. I really like my CDI 1/2" - a definite example of getting what you pay for. I just don't have one in 3/8", yet. Someday, maybe : ) Thanks for watching!

You might be able to get a pawl set for a proto wrench or other similar type to repair the old one.

Which part of the breaker bar failed? I hope that required a lot of effort!
