    I found the same thing with a different system. I had a 45 lb wood/glass limb. My Black Eagle X-Impact's flew great but the bare shaft proved it was a bit stiff. When I upgraded limbs on my ILF I chose a 44 lb. Medium limb with carbon on a 68" bow, not a 62". These limbs had another brother model with less carbon & I bought a set of 40 lb limbs for training & they also shot that bare shaft as perfect as a T-square measuring your tiller. We finally warmed up here in MN after 6 long months & I like my recurve setups for the training & real deal. By the way, my arrows r 6.7 gpi which was the determining factor on my arrow build of having a very tight shooting 500 grain arrow. All my compounds r 550-570 grain setups & I'm counting on the instinctive advantage this year. Thanks again, u r great @ keeping it real & just as important positive 👍.

    Great job of explaining how important it is to try different arrow weights and components to get the best arrow flight possible. Since I started watching your channel I've picked up a ton of good information. I've been taking your advice and have been working up a really good shooting arrow for my favorite bow. So, thanks for the advice!

    I have a Thunderchild 50# @ 28" - shooting Doug-fir wood arrows. To get clean paper tears I ended up with 80/85 spine. My total arrow weight with finished arrow is 675 grains, still moving fast out of this bow. My FOC is not even remotely over 18% but with 675 grain total don't care I have a ton of momentum! Love your videos man keep'em comming.

    I've always liked using heavy cabela hunting arrows. I shoot a Crimean Tatar bow (50) so I guess I've been buying compound arrows. Always 340-350 spine. Throw on a 200 grain tip with 24 grain Inserts and you're easily over 510 grains. However I noticed that with my bows and shooting style (khatra) there is no flight difference with broadheads or practice tips but yet I hear all the time from trad archers that they always have this or that problem. I honestly think because they think about it too much. Historically no one knew the spine of their arrows. It was always the weight which I go by. When I talk about weight of the arrows trad guys look at me like I'm an alien

    I was eyeballing these yesterday when I went to pick up some beater shafts for breaking myself into my new bow. Good to know more about what their story is.
    I have no shame at all using high end compound supplies for my stick bows. Who says we should settle for less? We're already settling for needing to get closer. Variables are so pronounced when you're shooting trad, eliminate the ones that aren't yourself.

      @@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 lol that’s almost exactly what I was using until now, except it was 400 xt with 200 tip in front of the brass. I should have been using the 500, these were just a little too stiff and heavy but it was my first year hunting with a bow and I was really worried about penetrating an elk. It was accurate and silent out of the 46 pound antique browning I have. I just got a new bow though, it’s a 55# r/d and it’s so much faster than I expected that 400 is out of the question. I lightened and shortened a 400 down to about 7gpp and it was still hitting sideways even fletched. She tuned out to 340 xt at 29” with 100+200 up front. It’s an absolute terror but it’s what I wanted for elk. I’d still like to try a smaller diameter though once I get settled in with it.

    Just came across this video and I’m VERY interested in your bow for this video!!!!! I’ve just gotten into trad and I ended buying a Sanlida Royal X8 after one of your other videos. I’m hooked on trad!!!! I’m not what I’d call good at it but the challenge has me hooked. I Luv this Thunderchild custom bow!!!! I also like the Centaur Triple Carbon and the Teolke Pika but these Thunderchild bows seem to have me leaning towards one. I have a 28in draw would that change much from your setup here with these arrows?

      Are you left eye dominant and turning your head too much to your draw hand? I'm left-eyed-right-handed and I couldn't find a groove until I started turning my head directly at my target and then bringing my bow to my face. Oddly it helped a lot when I went and shot several hundred rounds of birdshot at the trap range (over several days, ouch), I started tracking with my right eye instead of turning my head. If I move my face to the bowstring I'm probably going to miss and definitely going to cut my cheek with the fletch (I anchor my thumb knuckle on the back corner of my jaw). Just a thought.

    Hey Jeff - update...a few months back I pinged you and told you I had taken your advice with these Airstrikes. I had never shot carbon, only Aluminum. And I had NEVER even heard of Ethics Systems. So - I ended up setting up both of my ThunderChilds (I call them my ThunderChildren) - a 45 pound and 50 pounder with these arrows and a 120 grains of Ethics up front. It was like everything I shot before was in slow motion. I have now shot two does with this set up, one at 21 yards and one at 17 yards. Both times I can only describe what happened as "a sledgehammer hitting a loaf of bread". Thank you again! I am now adding several other carbon/ethics spine weights to my collection, and will be selling a pile of aluminums on ebay over the winter months. This set up was everything you described...fast, flat, and scary deadly. The 45 pounder tuned to a 200 grain Woodsman, the 50 pounder tuned to a 175. Just awesome. I wish they made these Airstrikes in a 500. I now have 2 dozen 400's set up. I also grabbed a dozen 340s that are still not set up but I will tinker with them over the winter. I can't get over how great these 400's are. You are doing a good service for people Sir. Hope to shake your hand someday and say thank you in person.
    Dave in Wisconsin.

      Yes sir and you’re probably going to want to build 400’s for sure and that’s actually the lowest spine they come in but you can really build some great FOC and still have a fast hard hitting arrow 👍🏻

  • @bryanthornton6787
    @bryanthornton6787 3 роки тому

    What make one carbon shaft a "compound" shaft and another "trad"? What's the weight difference of the Airstrike you're shooting here and the Gold Tip Traditional 400's that you said shoot so good out of this bow?

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  3 роки тому +1

      Okay thanks for the questions, so the Airstrike was never marketed for traditional they were factory fletched and weight sorted for extreme long range accuracy for compound shooters and the 400’s are only 7.4gpi and the 340’s are only 7.8gpi so they are naturally fast shafts with a slick painted coating for penetration compared to the gold tip traditional 400 weighing in at over 9 gpi and the 340 over 10 they’re much slower and larger diameter so they can’t penetrate near as much as the smaller diameter shafts like the Airstrike but they fly beautiful and are extremely tough arrows I’ve shot them for years and still like them very much, I’m just in love with the performance of smaller diameter faster arrows that fly a broadhead so well.

    • @jcarry5214
      @jcarry5214 2 роки тому

      I get the impression "trad" arrows are usually marketed as high shaft mass (instead of point mass/high FOC) and they're standard diameter with runout that's considered bad in compound but acceptable for guys who they assume are either going to shoot from 15 yards or miss and break the shaft on a rock.
      Generally that's kinda true, but as I get into this with more modern bows it's pretty evident to me that manufacturers aren't really catching up with the standards in modern stick bows, at least the way some people shoot them.

      Neither, the mountain monarch is no doubt the best shooter he’s got, but if I had to choose it would be a 58” Thunderchild with the heaviest G10 riser you can get, they’re super lightweight and all shoot good but the monarch is way smoother and faster

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  7 місяців тому +1

      The Thunderchild really likes heavier arrows and I just preferred the draw of the 58” and it’s still short but a little mass weight in the riser goes a long way with any longbow either way you’ll be happy with the quality of any of them it’s just that the Thunderchild and Monarch have the best resale value from what I’ve noticed 👍🏻
