Great video and really well explained thank you. I am always looking for consistent watering tips and I had never heard or even thought about this - I will definitely give it a go. Subscribed too!
Glad you found it useful, it worked really well on my tomatoes last year. It's really interesting when you take the pots out at the end of the season to see how the roots have all wrapped themselves around the pots.
I did it for some tomatoes in the same container last year and it seem to work really well. My biggest fault is either over or under watering stuff so it takes out the guess work. Going to do something similar in the polytunnel this year for the stuff in there.
What a fantastic idea, I will be giving it a go for sure. I’m just thinking how I can adapt it for my long parsnip planter. I want the water as deep as possible to force the roots to go down. Hmm 🤔 Anyway thanks for sharing.
You could always construct the pots as I did and then silicone a piece of long tube to the top and then bury the whole thing so just the top of the pipe is coming out.
👍👍👍
At least I know they will get watered ok, just got to hope they make it through this cold April to see the better weather in May hopefully.
I saw a tip wherein the Gardner also put a circle of silicon around the fill up hole to help direct the spill over into the hole while filling
That's a good idea might try that if I do some more
Just use a funnel instead

Very cool experiment Steve and great for if your going away for a few days. Have a lovely weekend and hope the weather is nice, Ali 🇨🇦

@@stevesallotmentdiaries I was thinking of something very similar. Might be a nice little project for a rainy day, which is most days at the moment.
Hi Steve great video.👍🏻🤠
Thank you, my biggest issue is either under or over watering so it is a great way to take the headache out of it.
