I wouldn't be surprised if it was real to her. Then later on in real life she had a miscarriage while she was filming the show. Wow. And then she got pregnant for real. She got her happily ever after. Her daughter coco is the love of her life.

To me, this was one of the saddest episodes because of how Monica was self destructing after her breakup with Richard. I felt so bad when she wanted kids and he didn’t that her love to have kids, she was willing to get a donor.
i know this was a one episode storyline for monica but wouldn’t it have been such a plot twist if one of Joey’s lil guys got picked and he ended up having a kid? that would’ve been so interesting to see play out for Joey

Who else is sad that this show ended
I’m not sad that it ended. I’m much more disappointed that they had the Joey spinoff set in LA as opposed to a spinoff starring Chandler and Monica as parents set in a suburban neighborhood (with Joey living with them as the stereotypical “weird uncle”) while trying to avoid Janice and Sid, their annoying next-door neighbors. Phoebe and Mike (and maybe even Ross and Rachel) can occasionally appear as guest-stars.

I’m kind of disappointed with Ross in this scene, though. His sister is clearly emotional and going through a lot with her break up and she’s talking about doing something so self-destructive yet he can’t muster up anything more than “I’m gonna tell mom…”

It's weird to watch this episode today because back when I first saw this episode (and albeit, I was very young at the time) I agreed it was weird she wanted to do this, but now I have at least two friends who either have done this or are in the process of doing this, and my view on it has changed significantly (not because they've done it but because I totally understand why they did it).

And it turns out that Ross was right - if Monica had done what she wanted here, she would have been a single mother with a child without a real father, or even if she found someone else to raise the child with her afterward, it could all fall apart and get very messed up because the situation like this, is always complicated, that's the truth. By waiting, she bonded with Chandler, got into a great relationship with him, adopted children with him, and didn't have to do this all alone, by herself. It's a way better way, just as Ross said!!

Monica would have rushed to make that decision, meanwhile, she started a wonderful relationship with Chandler and they adopted two children together - much better than what she planned to do here.
