Toyota FJ Cruiser - A Quirky SUV Rising in Value (Review)

- As we say farewell to rugged SUV's, the Toyota FJ Cruiser is a reminder of what the segment used to look like. Its a robust little truck that can do it all, and brings nostalgia of what the FJ land cruisers used to be.

Driving my 2014 FJ Cruiser has been an absolute delight for the past 5 years. Now that its paid off its even better.
Today, my husband and I finally come to an agreement that we are going to get one of these! Thanks for the review! 5 months of fighting and we finally found one we both like!
What year, how many miles and how much did you pay?
Me and my girl just made the same decision, heading to the dealer tomorrow here in Australia to negotiate on a used 2012 they have.
What was the alternative solution?
@@jamesb2148 That's fair enjoy the ride!
2 year review?
Own an FJ for the past 5 years and never got tired of its look. Drive like a tank and very reliable off-road machine. Love mine with 6spd Manual transmission and fulltime 4x4.
How does the maintenance? Did u facing any major issue?and how does the fuel consumption? Some said its not quite good enough as its heavier and big displacement? Hopefully u could advise, I'm planning to getting one, most probably will be use on daily basis, I believed toyota are reliable Enough, and this is one of my main concern to purchase this tank besides of it's look and capability
@@akhmalzainal7435 It's very good with maintenance. I did regular oil changes and kept driving. It is very easy to work on as my mechanic told me. I drive mine every day even its not very good with gas mileage but hey who cares? I am okay to spend a little bit more to drive this awesome looking FJ. Very happy with it, I had 2 Jeep Rubicons (2006 & 2010) and they all had issues. Not again. FJ is solid.
@@GXPedition460 thanks buddy, appreciated it, the gas was averaging rated around 17-20mpg from my research, if in this case, my vision will be same like u too, dun care much to spend on the fuel besides this is not a ride you'll looking for in terms of fuel efficiency 👍💪
@@GXPedition460 I'm looking for an awesome tank, reliable, tired enough with those 3germans, money pit like hell, really2 need something reliable bulletproof and value for my money
@@akhmalzainal7435 I have an 07 6 speed manual, full time four wheel drive FJ. I change the oil every 3k miles with full synthetic oil. I have had to replace a couple things, but they are know issues (camshaft valve control solenoid and starter). I have also replaced the battery, serpantine belt, air filter, and spark plugs, but those are routine maintenance items of any vehicle. I commute 32 miles to work and get about 19 mpg. On longer road trios it gets about 22 mpg. No, that isn't great, but I have never had trouble on Wisconsin winter roads and it is very good off road in the woods and across frozen lakes. I think yo would be very satisfied with your purchase if you get one. Some people complain it is difficult to see out of and has a large turning radius. I have never had trouble with either of these concerns.
Owned many vehicles of different brands including German but FJ Cruiser is just an delightful ownership and fun on and off road. The quirks give its character.
Still get them here in south africa we love them here best 4x4 ever
I have an 07 FJ Cruiser. It's a six speed manual, which is part of the reason I bought it. I never worry about if the plows have been out or not, because this thing will go through about a foot of unlpowed snow No problem. It is not lifted and has stock size tires, although they are Cooper AT3s. The original tires would get loose on the snow, but not the coppers. I's not a grocery getting soccer mom mobile, but if I wanted a minivan, I would have gotten one.
I cant wait to get mine at the end of this summer!!
Paid off my 2014 about a month ago on my trouble free FJ Cruiser with under 40k miles. Good luck when you get yours you'll find even a used FJ is worth every penny. I don't have any modifications, large tires or heavy winch type bumpers and my mileage started to drop from 20mpg to 17mpg. I'm unaware of any problems with my FJ so I went from Regular Costco gas to Premium Costs gas and it leaped to over 20mpg. I am in between putting Costco Premium gas and Chevrons regular gas in order to get the over 21mpg I'm realizing now. So if there are any FJ owners out there wondering about their gas mileage if you have a stock FJ like I do then its possible to raise the mileage by making sure your getting the higher octane that the FJ needs to yield the best mileage performance. I've since not trusted the gasoline because of this experience. Food for thought!
This is my 18-month-old grandson’s favorite video. We are singlehandedly bumping up the viewership!
I'm glad to hear your grandson likes it! Thank you both for watching :)
I bought a 2012 Calvary Blue on 11/19/22 with 168,000 miles. I love it!
FJ's they are WELL BUILT QUALUTY RIGS. Love the VOODOO BLUE.👍😊 Great investment!
Made by HINO, for Toyota.
You guys rock, really down to earth, thank u,
solid review
Those trucks r amazing 👍👍👍
I wish mine was blue. Always loved that color!
Love my 2007. Bought it used 9 years ago. Never even had a check engine light go on. Just replaced the brakes and it still has the original battery.
I just got an airbag light. Idk how it came
@@Kana0211 Might be a dumb question but ill ask anyway. Is there anything on the passenger seat?
My 07 still has stock brakes 😂😂
it's really unreal you buy a vehicle for 28000 5 years ago and now it's worth 38,000 I don't understand it well I crawled underneath one and now I do
I bought a 2014 FJ in July of 2014 and it currently has 1,700 miles on it. It is now worth about 6k more than I paid when I ordered it from the factory. It's never been on wet pavement, rained on, or even washed at a car wash. We'll see how the value goes, but i'm thinking it's a good investment.
Are you being sarcastic?
You're kinda missing the point of having an FJ.
@@jeffsteffen211 I think this guy lives on a one man island for that low mileage. And please don't tell me he drive another vehicle then yes this guy is missing the point.
@@DaLizMs Hope so... what's the point of buying a FJ and not getting it dirty?
I have cash. Call me now!
Love these cars! We never got them in England 😔
High Peak Autos would be great to see one of your reviews of this. Auto trader has a few on sale at present - assuming that the local Toyota dealer would take care of it.
This one has a locking rear diff, not an LSD or center locker. I believe the latter options were only in the manual ones, which were also all time 4Hi with 4Lo selectable. I knew I recognized Cypress in the opening shot!
I got mine a week ago!!
Just bought my showroom condition FJ. So happy with it but I feel like I’m driving a piece of appreciating art and worried about getting hit or doing damage. The first car I ever had that feeling in. My wife wanted a wrangler for the convertible top which is nice but there is no room in the Jeep. Fj has room for gear, dogs, and passengers. Not that I have both, I’ll be selling the wrangler soon but luckily they aren’t depreciating either!
I just got mine yesterday from a seller. Low miles and taken care of. Love my new car transitioned from Tacoma 07
Own one myself trust me you will love your fj. Enjoy !
What year, how many miles and how much did you pay?
@@TheGregWallace year is 08 automatic, 127,xxx miles, paid 11,500 cash. 3rd owner and well taken care of w/ no indents. Best buy for two
I got a souped up FJ and a new 4Runner - how cool is that ?
2007 had inner fender apron cracks in the engine bay. Bummer. 😫 and no side sun visor 🤔
If you buy one check to make sure the heater/functions work seems to be a common problem and can be expensive.
Gus Buster how so?
I did, also checked the front wheel well for any 'bulged frame' and the under carriage frame welds for excessive rust. Some surface rust which i'll gladly do some maintenance.
0-60: YES
How many where made?
CYPRESS!
3:13 Am I the only one who cringed!??? Hate that he didn’t use washer fluid!!!
It woulda been way worse if it made that skipping noise lol
Shorter the windshield the more wipers
Sucks on gas but it is fantastic for everything else. WIsh it had a 6th auto gear for hwy tho. It is better driving around city than the 4 runner too. No tail weight swinging around in the back.
The Toyota FJ does 0-60 in sub 8s, that's faster than most vehicles on the road..
I kept up with the motorcycle once going 90mph with my 2007.
do you allow me To crop out a part of the video To display it on the private channel With the source mentioned

@@WestVanGarage ok thanks
Mine
I will send the buy the Toyota fj cruiser
But I don't buy the Toyota fj cruiser but I will send buy the Kia cadenza k7
Does this car have good gas mielage
No
@@dedu7483 Presently in fact my last refill dated 8/11/19 yielded 305.7 miles, 21.62mpg @ 15.07¢/mile. On 7/11/19 the trip meter read 320.9 miles, 21.96mpg @15.4¢/mile. Those are from actual receipts that I could find lying around my desk. Does this not reflect good mileage for a 4200lb vehicle?
nope. If you are concerned about that....go buy a Prius.
17 mpg city on the 2wd and 16mpg on the 4wd
@@breeze787 that's really good. Are you doing mostly highway driving? I can only get about 220 miles per tank. Everything is stock except for the tires. No lift, no aftermarket suspension, and I've even removed the cross bars from the roof rack. I've never been able to break 300 miles per tank.
I literally want one so bad. I found a siiickkkk 2014 silver Fj with a little under 60k miles but it’s in the thirty thousands and my bank account said 👁👄👁
Can’t take it with ya!
The more you wait the higher the price if you want miles u der 60k
😲😲😲🤑
I want this vehicle but its discontinued 😪😪😪
the passenger didnt seem to want to be there
What?! I can't hear you!
all metal inside would have been preferable
Why did they stop making these???? I love the FJs!!!
Long story short, Toyota is a pretty conservative car company. If a production car doesn't meet their quota, they'll most likely axe it.
Pretty much what West Van Garage said. It;s not great on gas and the back seat suicide doors can be difficult to get booger eaters, erh I mean precious children, in and out of. Not what soccer moms who have trouble handling a mini van desire. I had it down to this and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Some days I still think about the Jeep, but my FJ has been a great vehicle.
They discontinued it in 2014 in the United States. If you recall oil prices were skyrocketing back then and nobody wanted gas guzzlers. People were trending away from SUVs and sales began to suffer. Different story nowadays though.
in the Omer car
Hey
2019 models still sold in the Philippines. 35K USD. BUT I THINK THEIR MADE IN TOYOTA CHINA FACTORY.
Still available in the Philippines (~USD 42,000 now), South Africa & Middle East, all from the Toyota Hino factory, Japan.
That was fucking awkward
OK - thanks for watching ;)
This kid should find something that he is good at and do it. McDonalds is calling your name. Answer the call.
@servicarrider lol k
@@WestVanGarage don't worry about the haters man.. just jealous. would love to see them have a go! ha
@@RossReviewsau haha true, its always fun to hear what they have to say.
I own a 2007 FJ Have already 353,000 KM and running good I will probably get another 100k out of it Worth every penny I spend on it to maintain it's reliability.
