    Leave it to UA to finally drop some really good blackface cleans in a box. To me it seems like the most difficult sound to emulate well. Especially for the price.

    Great job on the Dream 65. Amazing model of the most recorded amp in history. You need to play with the Ruby some more. The AC30 was a unique and brilliant design. Folks need not be afraid to crank the treble and/or bass controls to the extremes then adjust the cut control to compensate. Every control on those amps is important to the voicing. You'd be surprised how pristine and how much usable overdrive one can get from an AC30. Hank Marvin with the Shadows got amazing tones from the AC30. Brain May, the Beatles, and even Slash recorded with this classic amplifier.

    I have an Iridium and a Flint as well as a real 1970s Vibrochamp and Fender spring reverb tank, so it’s hard to justify, but man this thing sounds so good. The Fender sound is my sound, so I can definitely see myself caving. Maybe I can last until Christmas. Lol.

    May be a dumb question, but do you just plug in a pedal like this to any old amp (I have a spark) just as you would any other pedal, or what do people typically play these amp modelers through?

    • @p.r.ruthie803
      @p.r.ruthie803 10 місяців тому +5

      Is not supposed to go thru a real amp. For casually players, headphone output or audio interface on computer. For people bands, go to PA system or a FRFR (flat response) speaker that can even look like an amp.

    • @aureliusandthespiral
      @aureliusandthespiral 9 місяців тому +2

      Yes, you can plug straight in, but if connecting to an amp it is preferable to plug in the fx loop. 4 wire method.
      The pedal is more to be an amp in itself for the studio or plugging into a pa/mixer/headphone pre.

    Thank you so much for this video. I actually wanted the Woodrow because I play '60s style soul and wanted something that got me closer to that Steve Cropper/Stax tone. Granted, he used a Harvard, not a Deluxe. But every video I watched on it was guys with strats, or some kind of humbucker pickup equipped guitar, cranking the Woodrow up and complaining about how hard it is to get a sound out of it, and saying how limited it is and none of the videos showed me what I wanted and so I gave up and decided I'd watch a few Dream 65 videos and most likely I'd get that. The first I watched was from Sweetwater, and he played enough clean stuff that I was starting to think "yeah...maybe". Yours was the second one I played and 5 minutes in you sold me. I was down. I mean, I kept watching but after five minutes I opened another tab and dropped that in a cart to buy online. I kept watching more out of curiosity but I was already sold. But then you switched to the Tele (which is what I use mostly) and at 44:02, you did a quick cut in your edit and suddenly you started playing something that sounded like the intro to Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" and for about 15 seconds you played me exactly what I wanted to hear in all those other Woodrow videos. Of course then you went like all the others and kept trying to play with the dirt. But that's cool. That's you. But you did change my mind and now the Dream 65 is something I'll look into buying later. The Woodrow's in the cart and for that I thank you again.

    This stuff really makes me reconsider my rig. I have a Deluxe Reverb and AC30 that I can't put above 3 or my neighbors flip their shit, so I'm mostly playing into a Boss Waza tube amp expander, often just with headphones. It's so much stuff. And like $3000 if I sold it.... When this sounds as good as it does, it's beyond difficult for me to justify all that stuff when I only record, no gigs.

I bought a little 8$ adapter cable (Y-cable, two quarter inch inputs to one mini output), and it drives my Sennheisers (HD25) fine. No idea if there are cans this won't work with, but it worked great for me.

  • @Michael_Is_Avg

    I am pretty happy with my Walrus ACS1, but I always just have them on the Fender setting and don't utilize the different cabs/amp types on the separate outputs. Having this guy where it focuses on being the best fender amp in the box thing seems like a better fit. Having an Apollo X4 interface, I've been really impressed with everything UA I've touched from the interface to UAD plug-in stuff. Wasn't sure how you might compare the two?
    I also really appreciate how you showed it before drives. I felt my amp sim was about gassed out, but that is now apparently been completely fucked and it's all your fault.
    Great vid and will have to try this out soon.

    The English guy in the Sweetwater video did a much better job with the Ruby. It sounds very good there, although he wasn't using ANY Fender guitars, which is weird demo-ing an amp thats emulating a Vox!. You'd never know how good the Ruby is from this demo here. I have a feeling that best demo of the Ruby is yet to come. The Dream 65 sounds great in the demos I've seen. I have to say, It's very tempting to go this route (DSP models) when recording. Oh man...the reverb alone has almost sold me on the Dream 65...Wasn't even looking for another pedal but after listening to an A/B with a real Deluxe in another vid I mean cmon! I sincerely feel your pain that the pedals were just loaners from Sweetwater. Hope you were able to get one of your own 65's at least. Classic comment after the trem test--"uh yeah--Demo's Over!" I've never owned a Deluxe but have played through a couple of them over the years and loved them. Lately have been feeling I really should get one. Or is it NEED one? All of the different reverbs are a bit underwhelming, often no real sustain and I spend ridiculous amounts of time tweaking tones. Would rather just play you know? For those who tried the Dream 65: having tried with pedals, I think it only sounds good when the volume is 9h or below. Above 9h, you start to get a Fender amp distortion, which sounds nice by it's own, but I think it "modifies" the sound of the other pedal too much (I've tried Origin Revival drive compact, Jackson Audio Golden Boy and a RAt clone). The strymon iridium, boss ir 200 and the walrus audio acs1 are all 399, with the "cheaper" option being the nux amp academy. These prices are not so bad considering they are potentially replacing axfx and Kemper units that go for 1000+ used.

    I noticed that you misunderstood the tone controls on the Ruby. They cut when turned clockwise. You had all the treble rolled off when you when trying cabs and I could tell it messed with your ears.
    I would recut the video and try again on a fresh day with each pedal. In other words, make this a three part series. Even if you don’t spend a lot of time on the others it’s cool because the Dream65 portion was outstanding.

    The clean sounds amazing very good
    Regular overdrives like screamers very good but when I used the high gain distortion jhs angry Charlie ect it sounded terreble and skinny and the delays get lost too on leads. Only clean was cool. So I’m disappointed cuz the pedal only works well on clean and by itself . I going to the store give it back no point for me use this , the boss got-1 directly sounds 100 times better . So if you only wanna studio work it should be fine but for live and big analog board it went really bad for me.

      In one of the other videos the UA rep talked a little bit about this. Most digital pedal companies spread all the DSP across as many sounds as they can fit in. Whereas UA’s philosophy is to use all the DSP on one sound and make it sound as as phenomenal as possible. Technically you’re getting two complete amps in stereo. Nah. That DSP line is bumpkis. You can allocate DSP to the current model and still allow model switching. You're paying $400 for a single model (chip with software) and 30 bucks of hardware. Overpriced, UAD is trying to get rich off a software model of someone else's amp (Fender, Vox, Marshall). Stupid to pay through the nose for a single model.

      I disagree pretty strongly. I think it's a super accurate amount of drip, at least compared to my '65 DRRI. My first thought when hearing that was "Wow, it actually gets into the insanity level of drip like mine does."

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  2 роки тому +3

      @@HeelBJC there can be variation between reverb drums in the same model amp due to spring pan models changing over time and other components. One of my princetons drips way more than the other.

    They sound phenomenal. Woodrow would be amazing for stoner rock/ metal. I see why you love the Dream and I'd choose it as my fav too. The price is in a category where I'd just buy HX stomp (I already have it) or any other multi-effect processor. Mind I'm from Latvia where price comes before quality.
    I don't know if that emulation is analog or digital. With analog emulation, the price could be justified.

    I have a RI Fender Twin Reverb and a late 70s Fender Dual Showman Reverb head. This is the first stomp box that actually comes pretty close to the sound of these amps. And it doesn’t weigh 65 pounds or more. I think it’d be a lot easier to get up and down my basement stairs.

    So might be a stupid question, but I have a Marshall SV20H and I have a hard time with getting a good clean sound. Would using the 4 cable method with this pedal into the loop allow me to essentially have a fender and a Marshall in one rig?

    • @Rrouthmusic
      @Rrouthmusic 2 роки тому +1

      If you plan on plugging straight into the Marshall with this pedal in the fx loop, no matter what you do you’ll still have that dirty Marshall tone because of the preamp. If you plug straight into this pedal and go into the fx return you could perhaps still get a clean tone but you’ll also need to bypass the cab sim in the pedal. Hope that helps.

    • @g-man7687
      @g-man7687 Рік тому +1

      I don’t think the previous reply is right if you go 4 cable method into your Marshall amps effects loop, when you engage the pedal it bypasses the Marshalls preamp when you disengage the pedal, it reverts back to the preamp of the Marshall giving you two completely different amp channels
      like the previous reply, said be sure to disengage the speaker cabinet on the pedal

    Videos like this unfortunately brought me to buying all 3 of these terrible amp sims at once….and then selling quickly before nobody wanted them. Lots missing on them…good sound quality with a crap operating system and no flexibility is not a good product. Notice Ryan doesn’t have them chained together….maybe we should ask UA why?

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  Рік тому

      I don’t have them chained together because they are power hungry little beasts and the power supply I use on my desk only has one outlet that works with them. Power issues have been my main criticism of the line since. If you watch my video of the new tc pedal I mention that a lot.
