@@DrGrimReaperGaming Well it seems from how Ansbach carries himself the Dynasty in the past before Miquella was a properly knightly noble group. When the lord / commander of such a group is defeated in battle so long as there was nothing to soil the outcome it is a matter of honor and principle that that very lord instilled to respect the outcome. Heck since the Mogh we fight is so far gone in Miquella's charm ending him is something of a mercy especially would be to an old knight like Ansbach who has likely watched the Dynasty devolve from blood knights down into bloodthirsty marauding murderers.
@@SolusLupi Couldn't agree more with you, I think this is an spot on comment about Ansbach and Mohg Order. As I've said to someone else, I don't think Ansbach as calm and collected and honourable as he is, would join Mohg if he was this Blood letting lunatic, there had to be something to draw Ansbach in, and I don't think Mohg would want someone like Ansbach if all Mohg wanted to do was shed blood. So, I fully believe that Mohg's Order was quite an Honourable group that would accept those that the Golden Order had abandoned, but then Miq corrupted it to what it is now, to convince the Tarnished to kill Mohg so that Miq could use his corpse for resurrecting Radahn.
For someone devoted to a god that demands you inflict horrible bleeding wounds on people, Ansbach is a pretty cool guy
I mean from the bits and pieces we learn from DLC, Mohg might of not always been this way and could have been influenced by Miq, and so becoming a bloody finger might have originally meant being connected to a family by the blood of a Demi-God, which was then corrupted into what it was now.

Also, we kinda only see the negative sides to the worlds the outer gods would create. Just as there are good pests of rot who coexist and create new things, Mohg’s dynasty could have used blood in a different manner. I’m not sure that’s likely, but it’s possible

Gideon believed no Tarnished would or should become a lord because he knew Tarnished were driven by Marika's will whom, in fact, made them "tarnished" in the first place.

He's a mature, honest and a more friendly version of Gideon.
He's also way more useful than Gideon since he helps you against Leda multiple times like a true homie, unlike Gideon who shows up later to steal youe Great Runes and kill you.

@@technofreakazoid3324 we know that Ansbach was a pureblood knight and considering his age and that he had a "fearsome reputation" its not hard to imagine he was the blood knight captain. we know he had his heart stolen and began to serve Miquella after Mogh got enchanted by him(Muquella) by the time we arrive in the land between it seems the blood knight all turned into bloody fingers and are lead by Varre. this is all canon except the fact that ansbach was captain but this guy has a lot of evidence to backup what he said so..

He also mentions it earlier, and after Mohg was charmed, Sir Ansbach attempted to fight Miquella, but was charmed as well. It seems he is actually extremely terrified of Miquella after the charm wore off, but he still fights.

Ansbach is my fave character of the DLC, he is like the second MC of this story. Makes you really wonder what the Moghwyn Dynasty was like before Miquella corrupted their purpose, if someone as awesome as this guy was part of it.
To be honest, Morgott was pretty righteous and fair, so i wouldnt be surprised if mohg was like that in his own right. The omen children may have been the ones who truly understood what it was like to be empathetic since they were shunned away. I do wonder if Varre was part of mohgs general dynasty or the one that came with miquella. He talks about how weird the two fingers are, but alludes to love and waiting for the right time, which makes me think he knew about the age of compassion.
I remember seeing something about the Formless Mother (the God Mohg worshipped) giving power to the downtrodden. If so, that's pretty based imo, and even though blood might seem scary it could be that Mohg actually had cool ideas before Miquella's enchantment
they were always PvPers who liked shedding blood. Ansbach is the kind of guy who bows before every duel, while Varre likes to do Level 1 runs and invade newbies all the time

Yeah his my favourite as well, it was nice seeing somebody from a group that at the time we thought were insane murderers who killed for the sake of it, but then we meet Ansbach who is a well spoken and gentlemanly character and it makes you think if there was another side to the Mohg Dynasty that we didn't see before Miq potentially distorted, and that are there others who joined Mohg not because he let them indulge in their blood lust but genuinely thought he was honourable enough to serve.
It’s weird to think that Mohg might just have been a completely different person when we met him, thanks to Miquella.
It's something we may never find out or have to wait until the sequel.

If Anshback is a reflection of what Moghwyn Dynasty was then damn me. Mogh had a very much sane and wise people on his side. Anshback have absolutely no reason to serve Mogh if he was as insane as we thought he was. Not nearly enough.
Anshback is completely chill, cold headed, follows reason and stand proudly for who he is: Pureblood knight. And calls us "Righteous". Not strong, or powerful or fellow Tarnished.

Ansbach is a real one, he knows at the start that we (the tarnished) killed Mogh but doesn't blame us and respects us since we were a third party that had nothing to do with anything of this and killed Mogh in a honorable duel for each-others lordship goals, but he blames Miquella bc he toyed and manipulated Mogh and profaned his corpse, which is really fcked up and untolerable for everyone that someone does that to their friend
One of the rare few characters that are up front about their intentions, so got a lot of respect for him.

Even when he id terrified and want to leave all this behind him, he chooses not to as in his mind, it is the right thing to do and that Miq should not go unpunished.

If it wasn't for the sheer overwhelming gigachad energy of Igon, Ansbach would easily be my favourie dlc character, mostly due to the fact that even before we get to the final boss he gives us a unique perspective on Miquella, accompanied by a banger line.

Is it just me or is this the single best assortment of npcs we’ve gotten in any fromsoft game thus far?
I think the doll and Gehrman are tied with them, but I think as a group these beat the bloodborne NPC's.
Legit this is a great cast. Many different flavors of backgrounds, motivations, designs and a sense of actually knowing each other and having talked to each other before.

The moment i learned Mogh gave shelter to the peoples ravenously persecuted by the golden order, i knew something was off when he was presented as this "maddened child moghlester", and it became even more aparent when i read the lore of the bewitching branch, tho, at the same time, i didn't become a full supported of Mogh, due to it being really unclear.
This tho, it changes everything i thought about Mogh, *Justice for the Omen twins*, like holy shit, please, leave the omens alone, the Hornsent already payed the price for their actions, these children are not even their decendeants, leave them alone.

If it is simply a description regarding the clothing and Mohg, then it is good evidence that Mohg wasn't all there mentally, but if there is an in universe explanation like the finger reader writing the descriptions then it makes sense she would be rather rude about Mohg.
@@DrGrimReaperGaming It really comes down to at what point Miquellas enchantment came in, for all we know he was mostly in the sewers guarding the entrance to the Three Fingers with a bit of help from Morgott before Miquella sneaked up, enchanted him and led him to go basically batshit crazy for blood, fire and little boys.
We owe Mogh an apology.
At least for the Miquella thing. The bloodlust and invasions, meanwhile, we will continue to judge him for.

If we think about it, Mogh and Miquella are similar, their plans are the same and their objectives the same, but the difference is that Mogh knows what it is to live in misery and it also affects us and the fact that Radahn did not have the "proud death" he deserved, he was also used like Mogh. Furthermore, Mogh never forced anyone to follow him, unlike Miquella who has the power to cajole/fall in love/control others.

Oh shit really! That makes me so happy and so goddamn sad. That even when we're helping defend someone who has defiled his lord, his so understandable and doesn't shame you for doing it as he happy, that us and Leda have each other. Ansbach truly is the chadest of all chads. Can he become Elden Lord, I think we would truly achieve peace with him.
I couldn't believe its a Knight of Mohg's House who is one of the most chill and kindhearted soul in the entire game so far.
I get the feeling that Mohg wasn't as Evil and Blood/Mutilation obssessed when he was still a normal Demigod and was an actual good leader and icon to have someone like Ansbach to go this far for him.

I like how he praises Thioller for his gumption despite his weak demeanor and holds nothing against Freyja for doing what she believes is right. This guy is awesome.
It is quite trippy to think this a guy who served Mogh and is still dedicated to him even after Mogh potential personality change and death. He is probably the best NPC's Fromsoft has ever done. If we weren't the main characters of this story, he would easily take our place. He holds no hate for any of his adversaries other than maybe Miq and gives respect to those who we think might not deserve it. He is an absolute legend.

@@DeepestDankest Agreed, I was bracing myself for his inevitable betrayal but it never came and had my back throughout the journey and in death wants US to be a lord for everyone and follow no God. I also agree about the Rykard comment, at least Mohg doesn't sacrifice his own people to satiate some monstrous entity who may not be their lord anymore and merely wears there face. As it seems Rykard wants to solely kill the Gods, not him AND his faction only him.

Agreed, I would say even in the whole game.
I find that interesting that at the start he stands next to moore, a dude that i thought will be a new "Wholesome fromsoftware guy" like Alexander or Siegward, while Ansbach was just a normal npc for me. But in the end Moore endet up being a traitor (while braiking my heart) while this guy has become the collest dude in the dlc. He really is a true friend who can forgive, and help in difficult moment while risking his live, all to stay loyal to his lord and us.
So yea the first impression can be deceiving
Moore isn't a traitor, he has absolutely no reason to hold faith to the tarnished, who serves his lord, sets out to kill him and basically doesn't have a good track record of keeping friends alive.
I mean... Moore technically never betrayed ya. He just stayed loyal to Miquella.
And he always would've been loyal to Miquella, not necessarily because of the charm, but because Miquella is (sorta) his uncle.
He's implied to be a Kindred of Rot, which were born from Malenia's scarlet rot. And we certainly know how loyal Malenia is (or tries to be, not sure) to Miquella!
He's kinda depressed, actually, that Malenia (maybe unknowingly) abandoned the Kindred of Rot in Caelid. Which is what our answer affects - should he stay depressed, or put the abandonment behind him. Or we can just be uncertain, and he won't do anything, thus staying a merchant where we first meet him.

Well, isn't loretta came to Haligtree to seek the heaven for Albinauric. It is so funny that she was the only one Albinauric we found there😂😂😂😂.
However, just remember what Leda once said 'They were no saints, they just happened to be on the losing side of war.'
It could be a difference of opinions within the Albunaurics, some wanted to go to the Haligtree like Loretta and others wanted to go to Mohg, and it seems a lot chose Mohg.
He took in albinaurics and tarnished too which is cool but the dude was still running a bloodletting cult.
If Miquella charmed Mohg, maybe he also compelled the Albinaurics to leave the Haligtree and join him in the Mohgwyn Palace to give him power through the blood ritual.

Ansbach was the only npc I had for the fight (outside of my spirit summon) since I missed Tholier’s quest. He really helped in both the npc fights and the final boss. What a guy.
He is indeed a legend.
I like how there's subtle details showing that Mohg wasn't actually all that bad. If Ansbach is an example, then we can guess that the Pureblood Knights were actually a league of extraordinary gentlemen. We can also extract from certain hints and in-game descriptions that the Outer God "The Formless Mother" is actually a somewhat benevolent deity, as how Varre talks of love when inviting us to Mohg's Dynasty, how tender he was with Miquella compared to everyone else. Mohg was very loving to Miquella, moreso than any of the followers we face. Miquella's charm seems to still leave remnants or room for their personalities, like Ansbach's investigatory nature, Hornsent's hatred to the Erdtree, Freya's loyalty to the Redmane's, or Thiollier's devotion to Saint Trina. Meaning that if Miquella's charm truly was just a charm, then Mohg was very loving, tender, and generous to begin with. It was a beauty and the beast situation, where the beast was more loving than the beauty. Or perhaps a Shakespearean situation, where love is not looked at with the eyes for looks are deceiving. "Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; And therefore is wing'd Cupid painted blind. Nor hath love's mind of any judgment taste; Wings and no eyes figure unheedy haste: And therefore is love said to be a child, Because in choice he is so oft beguil'd."
There's also the subject of Ansbach's age. Why is this important? Well, it's obvious that he's served Lord Mohg for a long, long time. His age and experience as a Pureblood knight is telling, even Freya knows how much of a true and powerful warrior he was. ((The mf helps against Radahn and holds his own, inagine him in his fucking prime.)) This implies that he joined Mohg in an age where he was honorable, or even moreso: Tender, loving, like the Formless Mother who took Mohg under her bloody guidance. Mohg was evidently a devout follower of the Formless Mother through blood rituals, however it is likely that he followed her more in the sense of caring, loving, nurturing. It's why we find Albinaurics tainted with blood in the Mohgwyn Palace; They weren't misdirected, they were followers like Mohg. Unloved and lost finding a place to call home... They just happened to arrive at the wrong time - A time where Miquella controlled Mohg. It's evident that Varre, the Bloody Fingers, the Nobles and the Surgeons were arrivals AFTER the charm of Miquella... After the Pureblood Knights too were charmed, like Ansbach.
Then what's the end goal here?... Why charm Mohg and start this blood cult? I say it's to feed the egg a steady supply of blood to keep the Empyrean alive, sated, and as White Mask Varre has been doing: Recruit Tarnished to his side to charm, more followers. And perhaps as a way to kill Mohg to gain his body - Its likely that Miquella knew that Great Runes were necessary, and Mohg would be a perfect target. Any sensible or heroic tarnished like most of ours WOULD go after a villain known as "The Lord of Blood" who leads a blood cult of serial killers...
A final piece of evidence: We can find an illusionary version of Mohg in the Leyndell Sewers amongst the Omen brethren, far away from the Mohgwyn Dynasty. This is just like Morgott's abilities to create a mimic/copy of himself like the two we fight. Why would Mohg of all people be here?... Easy, because he cares for his people. Because Mohg feels for the oppressed Omens within Leyndell, perhaps even for his own Omen brother, Morgott. Because Mohg is loving, and even though he's under Miquella's charm - just like Leda and her followers - He still has glimpses of his original personality, which is a loving, caring omen serving the Formless Mother... Giving love to all the unloved.
TL;DR, Mohg didn't start the blood murder cult, Miquella did with his charm to lure in Tarnished and complete his ritual to the Shadow Lands.

I completely with your first point with regarding Mohg and his order being different.
If we use Ansbach as an example then Mohg must have been far less tyrannical
and murderous then what he is now, as he wouldn't want an individual that is as honourable
and level headed like Ansbach in his order, as he clearly has a code he abides by, as he
even wants to avenge his lords death/disrespect even against a God. So, Mohg wouldn't
create an order of Knights that followed a code if he just wanted to murder the world.
I've always thought the formless mother was a much more benevolent entity than what
people has said she is. As although her whole thing is about blood and wounds, there's
nothing to see she wants death and wounds on everyone. She might only want/need a small
wound to connect to people as Varre does to you, so you're connected to Mohg. I totally
believe Mohg's order was about love and wanted to have a community and potentially get rid
of the Golden order with the downtrodden and abandoned that the Golden order thought was
lesser.
I also absolutely agree with your comment about Miq's charm leaving people's personalities
somewhat intact, as you perfectly pointed out all the various aspects of each charachter,
and how they all keep them before and after the charm breaks. So, Mohg treating Miq with
such kindness MUST mean that is who he is as a person, and his order before Miq was one
of compassion and treated everyone as a loved family member like the formless mother wants,
which is why she might of connected to Mohg as she saw a kindred spirit.
I agree with your statement regarding Ansbach's age as he clearly has seen how Mohg was
before and after Miq, as he knew he was charmed and tried killing Miquella, and at
some point actually harmed Miq and severed an arm, as we learn From the Needle knight and Miq's lack of arm in the final fight. I also believe you're correct with the timing of the Albs, as
I believe Miq transfomred Mohg and his order into blood thristy monsters so that it was
easier to convince them to kill Mohg for is own purpose, and none of us would want to
kill him, if he was this truly loving charachter. So any new arrivals would be corrupted
to be monsters who live to kill, instead of people who found a home finally.
I believe as well that Mohg's copy in the sewers was also an attempt to protect the omens
down there, as he couldn't be there in person before or after his corruption, but
he could still do something.
You have made some valid and incredible thoughts on this, and I love how some
people are dedicated to theorising and discussing this game, as it is fun talking to one another about it.

I wish I could have beaten the final boss with both this guy and thollier, but I'm a caster build, that boss did NOT need more than what they already had. I barely squeaked out a win.
I'm a caster and they made the fight that much harder but I wanted to complete their questline the "right way" was it worth it? Not really.

It's a nice change of pace of meeting a really nice guy who is actually helpful during your journey, and is still honourable and respectful even if you find yourselves on opposite sides.

Keep in mind the formless mother is a blood crazed outer god but she's also known as the mother of truth. She doesnt lie to her followers and she wants to be seen as mother above everything. Think about Mogh for a minute. His own mother abandoned him for being born an Omen so he found another mother. One who wanted whats best for him and her children. Mogh even went as far as trying to be like miquella by inviting those the erd tree spurned into the new dynasty like the albinaurics
I agree with most of your points regarding Mohg and the formless mother, but I don't think she's a blood crazed Outer God. Yes her thing involves blood and has a strong association with wounds but it doesn't mean she want's to murder the world, she might want wounds as that is the only way for her to connect to people. The wound could also be a small cut.
@@DrGrimReaperGaming oh no I say she's "blood crazed" since alot of people tend to hold that against her but truthfully I believe it's not in the way most would assume. She craves wounds sure and her followers often willingly sacrifice their own blood to her but the only ones to my knowledge that spill other people's blood in her name are the surgeons. Keep in mind there's reason to believe the surgeons only came into the picture after Miquella arrived so it's possible Mogh only allowed them in while bewitched. It's makes sense if you think about it. Mogh is pouring his cursed blood into Miquella's body to violate his empyrean flesh but perhaps he needs a transfusion of blood to stay alive himself. Desperate to stay alive but also keep supplying Miquella he might have allowed non voluntary blood donations of some kind. Seeing his master in this deplorable state would have been more than enough for Ansbach to step up and do something to stop the madness. He's a pure blood knight after all and knights typically have some code of honor or righteousness about them so this behavior and treatment of his master was enough for him to challenge Miquella. The rest is history. He's bewitched all the same then finds himself in the shadow lands

I totally believe he was a different person before Miq was introduced, as you pointed out knights have a code of Honor/righteousness that they follow and with Ansbach being such a cool and level headed guy during and after his enchantment, makes me think that Varre and the surgeons were either accepted out of desperation or to convince us the Tarnished to kill Mogh since they clearly enjoy blood letting. Whereas a Pure Blood ironically doesn't.

@@Blopusanian Makes sense, I think part of Mogh's lore is that he "found" the formless mother under the Capital, so I think the mother was always part of his order but was originally and still is a neutral entity but the use of her blood has changed dramatically.

How did an honorable guy like Ansbach end up serving the Josef Fritzl of Elden Ring?
To those who don't know, the Moghwyn, in Moghwyn Palace can be roughly translated to, friend of mogh. It seems he isnt anad guy pre enchantment
“Honorable battle” you know what, I’d take it. Mohg (and his twin) are one of the first bosses I actually sat my ass down and properly learned. Sewer mohg beat my ass more times than I can count, to a point I can beat him with my eyes half closed. Ended up helping a lot of Tarnished entering the DLC, too. Honorable duel indeed.
Now this is rare response that someone didn't abuse a game issue to beat him, I mean I am one of them comet azure for the win, but it is good to see some people actually beat him "honourable".
You'd think more people would be out for revenge when you take down their lord, but Rykard's and now Mohg's followers are just like "Welp, that's the rules of the game." Guess the more evil your faction is the more you accept that this kind of thing can happen, which hey, I can respect that fairness.
It's certainly a nice change of pace that they don't kill you for something that isn't in your control or they accept it as a potential end for what they're doing. I would say in my opinion I don't think Mohg or Rykard as evil, doing immoral actions yes but I think this world is filled with grey characters that are neither good or bad. As whilst Rykard did something "blasphemous" it was to stop the tyranny of the Golden Order, and at the moment there seems to be no redeeming Mohg and his order, but there is an argument that Mohg and his group wasn't like what they were in the base game before Miq was involved, and when he was brought to the palace that's when Miq corrupted Mohg.
@@DrGrimReaperGaming That's fair, Rykard and Mohg got their followings for a reason; the Golden Order sucks, and those two demigods offered a cause and family they could get behind. Of course in the Volcano Manor's case they can't really deny their own war atrocities and all those torture victims in the back of the manor, and I would think even the most psychopathic Mohgwynites can acknowledge that their blood hunting isn't exactly a normal activity. Fair point that the latter may not have been as bad before Miquella's influence sent things off the rails. After all, they do have a ton of Albinaurics that probably saw Mohg's faction as an escape from persecution (something the Omen prophet would know a lot about), and Ansbach is proof there are at least _some_ level-headed individuals who probably got into it more to study what the Formless Mother is about, a forbidden but fascinating topic worth understanding.
@@sonokawaray I definitely think when they make the inevitable sequel they should expand more upon the "evil" factions like Rykard and Mohg. As we've already discussed, they got a following for a reason and whilst we can learn a bit about them, I don't think we learn enough to justify joining their factions, either us or the characters in the world, as you've rightly pointed out, Volcano manor has torture victims hidden away and Mohg faction whilst seemingly taking in the Albinaurics as Mohg knows what it's like to be persecuted for being born, his Tarnished members kill their own kind for the thrill and don't use the reasoning of defying the Erdtree. So whilst the world is grey and the Golden Order are just as guilty of committing horrific acts, Mohg and Volcano manor appear as though they just enjoy the suffering, and is confusing as to why people like Rya and Ansbach would join their associated faction.

Why the hell didn't Mohg have HIM doing recruitment instead of Varre?
It's been something I've been and several other commentators have been discussing, but I personally believe that Miq corrupted Mohg's order so that it was easier to convince the Tarnished to kill him. As the way Ansbach talks about Mohg, implies he was a rather honourable and stand up guy such as Ansbach himself and I doubt Ans would join Mohg if he was originally this Psycho that enjoyed killing and encourage his followers to do the same and vice versa, I doubt Mohg would want someone reasonable in his merry band of murderers. I think when Mohg took Miq to his palace on Miq orders, he also corrupted Mohg's way of thinking which also caused the rest of the pureblood knights to leave which is why we don't fight any, and any subsequent recruits turn into what Varre is.
Ansbach also talked about how he once tried to kill Miq but was then charmed himself, so I think after that Ansbach was sent away so that he couldn't recruit anyone like him and anyone like Varre would want to join instead.

@@ExtraStage300 Especially since Mohg is an omen and knows what it is to be casted out and abandoned and so I believe he wanted to create a group of those like him so that they had a family to call their own, so if Ansbach was there, then as you say you wouldn't be able to stop me from joining and couldn't convince me to kill Mohg as there's no reason for it.
Ansback knew that Miquella only charmed Mohg and used him as a tool to escape from the Haligtree. Mohg waited for Miquella for hundred years but instead the truth Miquella waited for his promised consort Radhan to return to Erdtree. Ansback only wants revenge to Miquella by decepting his lord reason he said "I blame the enchantment more than anything" meaning he is talking about Miquellas enchantment to Mohg.
I personally believe this is how it went down.

After all, before the release of the DLC, everyone thought that Mog was the main evil, his appearance and music during the battle said that we were facing the main villain! But it turned out that he was just an unfortunate creature abandoned by his own r parents and when he had a goal to create his own dynasty, we come and break everything. Without even thinking that we are making a huge mistake! It's a pity about Mog, but I wasn't the only one who thought that he was a pedophile, and in the end everything is the other way around. Even the games show how appearances can be deceiving, starting with Mog who was just a poor creature, as well as Morgoth, Mesmer. And ending with the supposedly saints Mikella and Marika who killed millions of creatures for their own purposes. Marika cleansed the world of shadows with the help of Messmer and then abandoned him! Also Mikella fooled a bunch of people and a bunch of other creatures for the sake of his era, which in fact will become no better Golden Order. And I really liked this storyline, fromsofter as usual made the quests very interesting.
I couldn't agree more, you make spot on points. I love how fromsoft has made this an incredible complex and grey world, and that not everything is as it seems, making you question if you're the hero of this story or merely a fool sent to destroy lives for a lie.

Totally agree, I really want to find out how all these Demi-Gods were like before the shattering, especially Mohg since the implication is that he has had a massive personality change. I also think Igon and The Onion knight should be with them as well since they're fun characters in their own way.

Its just my theory but varre too might have been charmed or instructed by the charmed mogh, he might have been instructed by miquella or mogh to recruit others as pureblood knight so that others could find the well hidden mogh, not only that but varre and mogh might have been asked to do the stuff he did in order to paint mogh in a bad light as to give us a reason to kill mogh since miquella needed him dead than alive

I realized my mistake when I met St. Trina.
She told me was up.
That is indeed a shame that you had to experience that, but now you know who to support and kill, if you try and do a "perfect ending" of the DLC.
