Same dude, got an x870e, 9800x3d and a nitro+ vapour 7900xt (sapphire with 20gb v ram, I got it for less than £800). All in, these 3 components are less than a 5090 wich I wanted to try and get but obviously that was less than a 1% chance. Now, so happy with my purchases and still have money to spend, saved about £1200 not going Nvidia. Set for a while now. Just deciding on case, thinking antec flux with all noctua build, and how many TB of m.2s I want. F Nvidia. They gave up on rendering for AI and forgot gamers made their company. I've been using amd for everything else for years and finally made the gpu switch and dude, the savings, the performance, the peace of mind, the style... AMD IS IT.

Being honest from a previous 3090 user........... I sold a 6950 xt I had to try nvidia again (hence the 3090 mention) and while I used it.. RT was cool and all but... Even then I turned it off in ALMOST EVERYTHING. Its NOT what I got the game for. I got w/e game to enjoy it.. as it is.. a game.. Not chasing realism in a real world of which im already sitting in..
So I've been back with AMD having a 7900 xt and now XTX and yeah, just solid.. Best purchase considering I got my xtx for 750 open box lol and as for that XT? pfft.. traded that 3090 for it... lol
Bottom line. RT is cool and all.. but im sick of it being the selling point in games now.
I say go with what gets you performance to PLAY the game in a playable area, Stop sweating about RT tech in its own.. its NOT worth it and wears off quickly..

@@FatherLambthe good thing about Nvidia is that softwares(like recording and editing) are simply optimised for it.
In the future maybe AMD will be amazing in its own right but honestly after a lot of research I’m probably going with a 4070 super instead of a 7900GRE. About the same price, better performance in all departments, RT support if I so choose to use it and it doesn't run background programs poorly. All of that for like a £30 difference which I am more than happy to spend. And those are the two best values from both sides imo. The 4070 super is the 1080 ti of its time

With games beginning to require RT capable hardware to even run (Indiana Jones being a prime example), you're gonna want something that can handle RT acceptably. It won't be a case of just turning it off to save frames soon enough. Devs can't wait for RT and Path Tracing to be the standard, much less manual work when creating games.

For the price to be right it would have to be $349 since the 7900XTX will fall to ~$500 soon. You can already find them on marketplace for $700 and will continue to go down as new GPU's launch. And a $400 7900XT will still be better than a $349 9070XT, Those can already be found on marketplace for $550. So, if the 9070XT is over $400, like HUB says...Radeon will be toast if they get the price wrong again.

So I can solve the "mystery" of the melting GPUs, it's electrical 101. We are delivering 600 watts of power which at 12 volts is 50 amps that's spread over 6 pairs of wires (2 × 6), if that's distributed evenly that's 8.33 amps. 16 gauge wire is rated for 10 amps that is pushed over the standard 20% margin used for electrical safety. Now if we look at the molex connection those generally only rated for 5 amps to 8.5 amps for 16 gauge so you are pushing dangerously close to it melting under what it's rated for. If the engineers at Nvidia didn't know this might be a problem they should be fired

It is not only about if a GPU sku gets great pricing. The ball is a lot on AMD's side. Nvidia has OptiX, with which you can render WAY faster than with mere CUDA (well, not every type of scene, though, depends on if having caustics and other stuff), but even more, CUDA itself tends to render quite faster than OpenCL. Indeed, in 2D apps also GPU accelerated, my experience is having a lot of problems with AMD cards (driver's bugs) and OpenCL, while none with nvidia/CUDA. besides all that, in both Blender and Davinci Resolve, just raw performance (that is, not counting with any special nvidia closed tech) it is quite faster with nvidia GPUs. A lot needs to happen on AMD for a lot of pros start considering AMD for work (other than Radeon Pro, just as overly expensive as nVidia Quadros and other professional line GPUs). And I really WANT too, having AMD CPUs everywhere and really willing to switch with GPUs, too.
Blender devs indeed have made great efforts to make the AMD GPUs perform better, but there are many things that they cannot improve (AMD drivers, the cards themselves, etc), it's AMD's job. But IMO the company is lately mostly fighting the game battle (in the past they had great consumer grade GPUs that could be used for high end 2D/3D freelancing, like the Radeon VII) and of course, the low and mid range battle (as they even declared). Which is smart, as the xx90s from nvidia are too hard to beat and indeed IMO are mostly focused on the 3D professional land and now AI, than really on games.

Melted sockets is typically resistance through the socket. Either too small a conductor, or insufficient connection/contact, and that is with any electrical devices. At 600 watts/12v the card is pulling 50 amps, that’s a hell of a load on those small wires and pins. The GPU needs a heavy dedicated power buss with a larger connector.

2:15 From the picture, and the burn mark, the problem is the power is not distributed evenly. Theorically, when using 6+2 pairs of cables, 2 pairs go for sense (x4), and then the rest 6 pairs are used for passing the power. So doing the math, every pair should pass 100W. In the old PCIe x8, x2 pins are used for sense, and x6 or 3 pair are used for 150W so like 50W per pair. Now only one pair use 100W, of course, if there is any load unbalancing, then the cable will meld. This is so easy to understand. The problem is the cable or the connection. The burn mark always start with the hottest area, in this case they are on the cable connector.

Remember, the 5950X was released at a $799 MSRP back in November 2020, adjusting for inflation that would make it $962! Considering that even the 9800X3D bottlenecks the 5090 there would have been a genuine market for it.

I think the pins themselves need to be larger. They are 2/3 to 1/2 the volume of the old 6 and 8 pin connectors. I don't know the ga sizes exactly, but my guess is the old 6/8 pin connectors are 16 or 18, and the new 12vHPWR and 12V-2x6 are a full size or more smaller. The plates on the other end are likely thinner or otherwise some way smaller. This creates less contact area which increases resistance, thus heat.

I would believe it when AMD announces the prices as I have a feeling they might try another bad pricing release and then do a price correction a month or two later cause no one was buying them but its barely gonna work as by then the damage is done and people will only remember the initial bad pricing.
399 and 499 pricing for the 9070 and 9070XT would be ideal but a 459 and 549 would also be fine but not the best anything higher would suck given that they are comparing these to a 70 class GPU.

The fire hazard makes me wonder if some jurisdictions would consider banning these components or set-ups? NVIDIA risks being charged with criminal negligence causing death if someone is killed in a fire their components caused after several years and multiple generations of parts have had these same issues. I can't understand how they don't get it? Anyway, at this point, I am definitely leaning towards AMD. Hopefully, by the time I buy a computer most of these issues and the overly inflated prices will be resolved. Also, it would be nice to have a high level of confidence in at least one manufacturer.

      @turboimport95 5 годин тому +1

this is a problem doing this like intel, eventually time runs out and causes issues like intel ran into, Even nvidia technology wise have been holding back and releasing cards on the same tech line and simply increasing the die size/core count and increasing power limit. But i also think they have already have the max die performance limit acknowledged in mind, and are getting close to that limit, that is why the cards are not much faster generation wise as they have been. nvidia is about to hit a road block, and they are pushing toward ai/cpu's/framegen to keep them afloat. The huge tech breakthroughs have already happened and everything is gonna go stagnant. I would not be surprised if the 6090 has a less performance jump over the 5090, then the 5090 had over the 4090. I also believe amd knows of this limit and decided to not target the high-end. They know what is coming.

If you fiddle around with the settings on the 5090 can you get it to take in more wattage... That will certainly take these cables over all safety limits and most likely can cause it to melt down. It is plastic after all and it softens and bends when it gets hotter and hotter... Especially when you have the cables melting on the PSU end would mean the draw is more than listed. This could be a user error, but in the same breath, NVIDIA should limit their devices to not go over certain power limits without some heavy tinkering...
