nice job explaining the differences, but one key note is the v8 is NA, the L6 verado is supercharged, more air equals more fuel, its amazing they designed a v8 that weighs less, makes more torque.
Good presentation, & practical advice. I looked everywhere for a pontoon that had a windshield in the mid price range...there aren't any! your words described the problem perfectly. All the passengers including the primary decision maker (your wife) are all left out in the cold. A 300HP 50 MPH boat with a windshield should be available to all of us not just the rich and famous.
My grandfather was a Harris Floatboat company back in the 80's, I haven't looked at pontoon or deckboat market in year's. So see if they have anything!...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
Thank you, sir! You really helped me! I'm in process of re-powering my 26ft 1981 Sea Ray Sundancer 260 and going from I/O 350 Mercruiser 5.7L with Alpha outdrive to an outboard. My first concern was to go with 1 or 2 outboards, and second concern was to go with 300 V8 or 400 V6. I decided to go with single 300 V8. I do not need 50mph speed. 20-30mph on plane is fine for me 😎 I'm not racing and use the boat just for cruising. Of course I understand that two 200-300hp outboards would be better, but it would be much more expensive too)) PS. The weight difference in 2022 between 400 Verado V6 and 300 Verado V8 is just 68lbs, but there is one more thing: 400 Verado V6 has SmartCraft programmable trim and tilt option and 300 V8 has not...
Hello i having mercury verado 400 racing L6 And my boat is krüger 6000 pro i thing boat weight i 1200 kilos and i use propellers vengerance 17p I wanna know better with propellers can i use?
I'm about to put my boat up, it has a 200 Pro XS. I love the boat, but I love that outboard more. It hurts me to think of selling it, but I'm onto bigger things. I think a new 300 Pro XS will make it all better.
Hi Tom ! your information are very interesting !!! Can you explain the difference between the démultiplication 1.75:1 vs 1.85:1 on Verado 300hp Tank you Jean
That was a great well informative video with an honest opinion of real world use of this motor. I am considering a 28' Axopar boat and trying to decide on what Verado motor currently. My choices are a single 250 or 300 or dual 200 or 250? I live on the Adriatic sea off of Croatia.
These are reliable engines but in the ocean 2 is 1 and 1 is none. Very unlikely to lose to 2 engines, so I would recommend going with duel for safety reasons.
"Top speed" Like your pickup truck, you seldom run either wide open. That being said it is nice to have the horsepower "speed" if you need it. In my opinion 35 to 40 mph in most instances is plenty fast.
Does a 2022 Verado change any of your opinion? Looking at a new Bay Boat and mostly a Yamaha guy but I’m looking at a Mercury for the first time. (Yamaha 300 fine but the Yamaha 350 was a POS) so I’m looking at the 2022 Verado(s) 300 vs 350 vs 400. We run WOT a lot.
Not sure if he was wrong or if it has changed for 2022. The weight between the V8 and 350 or 400 is only 68lbs. I have always bought the max HP on my bay boats with no regret but I don't care about fuel consumption. A big factor is where you will be with your bay boat. Do you need to get up fast in shallow water? Personally I am looking at a 400 but if there was a V8 350 that would be a done deal for me. I agree with Yamaha 350 scare. I have always had Yamaha but I am not getting the 425 and I do not trust a 350 so Merc it is but which one???
Yes you are correct, 5% or less at wot. But on the other hand, I'm asking because I don't know, change the application. Same engine but not on the pontoon but a Ranger or Basscat. While I bet it is >5% but
Outstanding job on the explanation, for my application, low end torque and hole shot needed. Seems like superchargers on boats are like they are on cars, gains not seen until high rpm range...and in some cases underperform their higher displacement cousins at lower RPM. Like you, not interested in blasting around at 50 MPH :)

Great explanation, I think you made up my mind for the 300 v8 on our new pontoon
Great information! Going with the 300 HP.

Excellent video, thank you for the information!
Thank you for the information. This is exactly what I was looking for. I’m making a choice between the 2 motors.

Was faced with this decision buying my Boston Whaler 240 Vantage. The sales rep said the same thing as this video. I’m going with a black 300.
Just stumbled on this channel, really a good video very informative 👍

Is verado 300 quieter than Susuki on low rpm ?

I like to know that I have the option of going fast if I want or need to
Excellent explanation
I bought a 250 v8 and am very happy with it goes aprox 41mph on my l25u
What is the size of your prop?
Put the 300 verado on it. It’s still a non supercharged engine but the ams midsection on it is a night and day difference with hull vibration.

Hey that was informative and your funny too...i have 300hp and it does run great on my 27ft Harris

@@trussmonkey5910No way on twins, what a mess. Unless you are going 50 miles off shore
@@kirkwilliams2127 In my case I usually go 40-80 miles. Yes you have a good point also. Tow boat US is also good to have.

Why is 300 ho V8 and 360-400hp V6

I think for a boat best engine needs to be a V engine all it needs is torque to help it out without getting struggle to the waves
oKAY What does tails and propellers mean ?
The is no replacement for displacement! Supercharger on a boat is asking for problems!
This is a good video
Your specs are off. A 300 V8 verado with ams and power steer like 350/400 is same weight
I guess I should quit doing WOT 50% of the time chasing my son's boat. And I have one of those wife's that says can't we go any faster? (at 50)
That's a big wheel he's steering
When I am 16🤣🤗👍👏🥰
