    Gary thanks for the video. My fix was rather simple, a month or so a go the pressure switch was replaced by a reputable company. Every since the water slowly started stinking and so for I regened both tanks, cleaned out the brine tank completely. Did a water softener treatment or so I thought. Only after watching your video up to the air intake gurgling sound and then the bypass, I figured out that the company neglected to open the bypass levers on the top after replacing the switch. Regenning properly as I text this. I hope it's not too late for these tanks sitting in bypass for so long.

    👏Hi Gary! Love the info here! I have a system just like this for iron and sulfur smell works wonderful! other than it seems to be making a one loud short fog horn sound then a longer one at 2:30 - 3AM every 5 days for about 30ish seconds There is no other water filter in line with it. The tank has greensand and gravel in it.. Ptank/ PSW and gauge area it is less than a year old. So I am thinking there is a restriction somewhere and it is pushing or pulling the water too fast causing the harmonic sound. Wondering if there is and easy way to trouble shoot this? Changed a toilet ballcock and tub fill valves so far but not no joy there!! IDK scared to push buttons on it as it does work!??

    Hi Gary! I built and installed a whole-house water filtration system a couple years ago and everything was great once I had it going! Now our water is tasting metallic again and I've replaced 2 of the 3 filters in my system. (Actually there are 4 filters, the first is a 50 micron spin-down filter). We are still getting that metallic taste as well as stains in our shower/tub and calcium build up on the shower heads. I'm going to follow your instructions from the above video and HOPE that the softener is my only issue!! The filters are: 50 micron, 20 micron pleated with a clear case, 5 micron carbon that I fill with medium (reusable), and a 0.5 micron filter at the end. I'm also considering installing a UV filter after all of that too, for viral protection. I know that the softener is a bit old and I'm hoping I don't have to replace the medium in it (hear it's a messy job!) but do you have a video on that? I'm going to hunt for one, lol, and thank you for all the great content!!

       @GarytheWaterGuy We have neutral Ph (tested at 7.3), very soft (10) water with high iron, Manganese and some turbidity to remove (I have test figures for these). We have one of the filters in your vid there, plus two woven polypropylene filters after it. It's definitely sucking during backwash so no blocked jet. We're still getting brown in the water which stains, when the water is run cold you can't see it much, if at all (but it still stains), but when it's heated you can see it's brown. The day after a backwash it's clean with a lot of air in it, after that you can see brown in the hot water until it backwashes again. Do you think this sounds to be working as well as it could be? We've been advised the only cure is to de-ionise (is it?) by adding more equipment and using salt. This is going to be not only expensive, but we're also tight for space and have been told it'll soften our water so much (it's already supersoft remember) that it could become slimy to the touch. Does that sound about right to you, or would you suggest something else perhaps? I think if we had hard water i'd get it, but don't like the idea of over softening. I seem to recall the system worked fine for a few months after it was fitted before going like this, but I cant be sure of it.

    Hi Gary, I just created a login and pswd to be able to order parts. I am in process of troubleshooting my Clack Iron Filter. I get error code 102, and am sitting here while it runs through all the cycles, to try and see WHEN it throws the error 102 code.
    My question is during the brine (air draw) cycle, is the iron filter supposed to send a lot of water to the drain? Mine does, and I don't know if that is supposed to happen during Brine cycle

    Hey there Gary, great video!
    Here’s maybe an odd question for you. I have one of these systems at a house I bought last year. Looks real old. All the “brains” of the component (the top control piece that’s screwed to the top of the tank) is all corroded and not sure the system as a whole works. Can you get new medium to replace in the tank itself and buy a new “brain” control? Or is that not worth it and should just buy a whole new system?
    Thanks!

    I have the potassium permanganate brine tank unit instead of the oxidizer unit that is in your video. I have replaced the injector, washed out the brine tank and suction line and it is still not drawing the pot perm solution out of the brine tank. Does this mean the media needs replaced? My unit is only 4 years old…is this the average life of the media for a pot perm unit? Is the media life the same for the Oxidizer unit? I’m thinking of swamping out my pot perm unit for the oxidizer just to stop messing with the pot perm. Comments and thoughts? Thanks.

    Great videos Gary! I have an iron filter that seems to work reasonably well. However we are noticing a bit of sediment staining in the toilet bowl (not brown like iron however) that wasn't there before. We have a softener installed downstream and it seems to be keeping the water soft - lots of suds in the sink etc. The iron filter is about 2 or 3 years old on well water with pretty significant iron levels. We have a plastic reservoir attached to the side that the air hose sucks out of and once a month we put a small amount of resin cleaner in there. I have noticed that lately there is water in that reservoir which is not intended. So, wondering if the venturi is plugging and will clean as per your video. However, I noticed in your video that your filter was set for 30 minutes for the step where the air gap is established. Mine is set for 60 minutes, is that a problem? And how do you tell how much water is in the tank after the air gap is established?
    Thanks for responding.
    Andy

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy  10 місяців тому

      Yes, I would definitely clean the injectors in both. Our systems are factory set at 30 minutes, if yours is working fine at 60 I would leave it at 60. Just make sure that there are no cycles after the air draw cycle. I don't know how to tell how much water is in the tank unless you have an opaque tank and shine a light through from behind.

      @@GarytheWaterGuy Thanks for the quick reply. I found that the unit was actually running in softening mode when I followed your programming steps which is odd because I know I have seen the "filtering" word displayed when water is flowing through it. I wonder if a power outage which we have pretty frequently could have put it into a default setting. We have been getting a tremendous amount of air in our water these past few months so maybe that it the root of the problem. I will phone Viqua support and get the right number for the air draw time.

    Hi Gary, Great videos! Thank you for posting great info for all of us out there that don't quite understand these things. I do have a question that I cannot seem to find a video for. I have an 8 year old Waterite Fusion2 FOB (media iron filter). that has worked amazingly beside one servicing for a very load air draw. In the past few months we consistently get air in our pipes after our Fusion2 regenerates. With COVID I haven't been able to get my plumber to the house. If I manually perform a regeneration cycle for 30 seconds in drain and 30 seconds in "brine" mode it clears it every time. Is this a valve sticking and any advise (or video) on what to do about it? Thanks for your great work!

      @GarytheWaterGuy  Рік тому

      It is normal to get micro bubble of air as that is how these work. You can back off on the air draw during the regen cycle so it draws in less air. The internal check valve waterestore.ca/products/clack-ws1-v3957-internal-check-valve-for-fob-c-k only keeps the air bubble within the tank if an outside faucet that is connected to the plumbing before the system is opened.

    Hi Gary! Thank you for the videos, they are incredibly helpful. I have a well with a treatment system similar to the one in this video. It was installed ~6 months ago. About 1 week ago I noticed a sudden drop in water pressure (not extreme but enough to be noticeable) and at the same time, the top fill plug on the iron filter tank started dripping. I called the company that installed it but have yet to hear back so I am beginning to research a solution myself. The installers did not leave any sort of manual or instructions. Is it possible that these 2 things are related or is it coincidental? If it matters - our well has extremely high iron (so high that particulate flecks are visible if it isn't filtered) and the other system components are a pH treatment and a 5 micron filter.

I removed the cover to see the display read “error”, the clicking sound, then the system shut down (screen goes blank with no error code). A few seconds later, “error”, clicking, shut down. And this continued. I unplugged the power for a bit and after reconnecting the power. Same problem. My water is starting to have the metallic smell again so I don’t think the system is backwashing. What does your system consist of? Water Softener? Iron Filter? If you can give me more info I can recommend trouble shooting info.

    My sulfur/iron filter tank is not working. Terrible sulphur smell in house. Trouble shooting, air inlet is working and injector is not plugged. What next?

      It draws in air during the brine cycle, correct? What is the flow rate coming from your well pump? ua-cam.com/video/BONHr56jnKs/v-deo.html

    The morning after the iron filter regenerates (every 3 days) we have a brief sulfer smelling water in the running water. I usually let the water run for a few minutes and it goes away. What can be causing this?. The system also has a water softener tank.

      You can try changing it to every 2 days instead of 3

    Hi Gary, great video! Were new to well water and when we moved in we didn't understand what we had. We started to notice the sulpher smell after we moved in but only in the hot water but now it's on both hot and cold. I did the troubleshooting you suggested and I can hear the gurgling in our Waterite Excelflow (looks like the same one in your video) but still have the sulpher smell :( what are your suggestions for next steps?

      Did you clean the injector? i have noticed that some times you get gurgling but the injector still needs cleaning. How old is your system?

      @@GarytheWaterGuy having similar issues, should I replace the media or do I replace the iron system with hydrogen peroxide injection and rebed the softner system. Or should I rebed both and still add hydrogen. System is maybe 5-10yrs. New house can't even move in water is terrible

    Gary, I have an identical unit at home. Is it normal for the drain line to constantly be draining water throughout the day (even when there is no call for water)?

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy  3 роки тому

      No, when it is not regenerating there should be no water running to drain. You need to replace the piston and seal pack. I demonstrate the procedure in this video ua-cam.com/video/rWh1r3idZm0/v-deo.html

    HEEELP!!!!!! My filter is leaking right at oring where it screw to tank, also when I hit regen it shows call such number for service, umm problem is I own the equipment, so will your service bypass this nonsense?? Leaking in ft myers fl

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy  2 роки тому

      Call means nothing, just a reminder that someone programmed into the valve. if it is leaking at the top of the tank you may have a cracked tank.

      All iron filters should regenerate at least every 3 days.

    Have you ever come across one that always has water coming from the drain line? What would cause that? I have one called the repair guy he came over said all the mechanical things work like the cam and switches. He said my problem was I have a leak and I’m using to much water. I searched my home found that the water is actually coming from the iron filter itself out of the drain line what would cause this?

    • @GarytheWaterGuy

      Water is leaking past the piston and seals. this video will help ua-cam.com/video/RhvspR3PAw8/v-deo.html
