The Jane Stanford dress on display at the Sacramento History Museum

- In partnership with the Leland Stanford Mansion and California State Railroad Museum, the Sacramento History Museum invites you to see how Leland and Jane Stanford lived, traveled by rail, and dressed for special occasions through unique family items at each of the museums.
We currently have on display a silk 1860s dress worn by Jane Stanford on loan from the Center for Sacramento History. Delta discusses this elegant dress in this video.
Delta also discusses the private railcar built in 1868 used by Leland Stanford currently on display at the California State Railroad Museum.
The Leland Stanford Mansion also has a cookbook published in 1857 and owned by Jane Stanford on display.
We are always excited to not only display new items in our museum, but also to partner with other local museums!

The artistry in the sewing and embroidery of that Victorian dress is wonderful and I’m glad to see it preserved. Thank you for sharing pieces of history with those of us who cannot come to Sacramento in person!

That’s so freaking cool! I hated learning history from books! But I absolutely love seeing history in person and reading the history while being at the location. Great video! I never knew any of this! I can’t wait till my son is out of school we’re going to be doing a lot of downtown sacramento history tours this summer.
