An original James Braid designed course • Established in 1891
Brora Golf Club was established in 1891 and recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. Originally 9 holes until around 1900 when the club was extended to 18 holes. In 1923 James Braid, five times Open Champion and a prolific designer of golf courses, was invited to visit by the club committee. This he did in 1924 and for the princely sum of £25 plus travelling expenses, submitted plans for a redesigned 18 hole layout. This was largely implemented as he suggested and remains mostly unchanged to this day. It remains a fair and challenging test of true links golf.

Always hitting geese here in Oregon USA
Bramshaw in the New Forest has horses, pigs, and cows wandering all over it, they are the ground staff, there are no fairways and many of the greens are fenced off. If you hit the fence on your approach shot you get another go. Also Kington in Herefordshire, England's highest course, has sheep all over it. They don't walk on the greens as the grass is too short to nibble.
Westwood Ho has livestock all around and occasionally you see golf balls that have passed through them!!
Has a Museum and is my favourite Couse that I could afford to play.
Royal North Devon Golf Club was founded in 1864,[1] and is the oldest golf course in England.[2] The course was designed by the Scottish golfer, Old Tom Morris
West Linton in The borders has the electric fences round the greens to keep the sheep off.
West Monmouthshire GC. 🐑🐑🐑 everywhere.

Just played Brora today. What an amazing place and course! 37 points and hit the green at the 18th. Brilliant. The sheep were chilled too!

I attended The Open 2015 and traveled extensively throughout UK with friends playing great courses.
I believe the name for these types of courses is Moorland. We played several of them on our trip. Having never seen these type of courses in Australia it was interesting to listen to the Pro explaining the need to have a fence around the green and the rules if you hit the fence. What also added to excitement was the types of animals we encountered, Deer, wild horses, Hairy Cooz and sheep to name a few. We considered Playing Brora however settled on Castle Stuart, Kingsbarns, Inverness and Nairn. I must agree with one comment about the weather as we played Nairn where the wind was blowing and absolute Gale. As we had pre booked we had no choice and had the course to ourselves as the members watched some crazy Aussies from the club house. I and friends had organised a tour to attend The Open 150th in 2021 but unfortunately will have to wait till 2022. I will definitely be putting Brora on the itinerery. Missing my golf as we in Melbourne are in lockdown for a further 6 weeks.
