Just what I was looking for - also in 9b in the bay area...but deer would decimate a young citrus tree here. Looking forward to follow-up video. Deer liked my miniature butterfly bush (buddleia), unfortunately. Does deer repellant stray really work for those premium roses - too expensive of an experiment for my budget? Thanks!
Ha! I hear you about the budget…but my thought is that I want my investment to stick around! Everything I have read and researched has said deer eat everything and the only thing that keeps them out is a barrier. Of course I don’t want to build a fence or use nets so spray is my option and in the next video (out on Tuesday) you can see the 1 year follow up on the original plantings. One thing I have learned is that fresh new baby plants are always appetising to deer but as they get established they seem to be less appetising. As well as the spray helping! Good luck! 👊🏻
I wanted Veronicas but I didn’t think their hardiness zone covered 9s? Are your cone flowers & echinacea different? Ahh I’ve been looking for hummingbird mint 😍 Everything looks great! I’ll check out the update :)
It's true Veronica aren't always listed in our zone because they prefer a bit of humidity..but I have had success with them and they certainly take our cold temps. So we will have to see...I think they are successful in various microclimates in our area. Cone flowers are the common name for Echinacea! hummingbird mint is looking great right now so may be more available at this point in the summer?? Wishing you luck!
Always great ideas!
