I found that if you cut the " bend" at the little hole, it does not cut the wire and you can just " turn it" and....VOILA your shank is " perfect.
Ok I admit that it is NOT my idea but it makes ot easyer and quicker to do the shanks.

Olive for sure - grey is good for local waters too. You can also try purple
