  • On Sunday, November 5th a vigil and procession was organised by the Dublin Ecofeminists Collective, with support from civil society organisations including Afri, Comhlámh, Dublin Bay North for All and Uplift.
The procession was led by a horse-drawn hearse moving from the British Embassy to the US Embassy to the Israeli Embassy and finishing at the European Commission Representation in Ireland. Many participants dressed in black, as the hearse carried a coffin filled with children's shoes to represent young lives taken so cruelly and so violently.
Claudia Tormey, member of the Dublin Ecofeminists Collective, said:
“Watching this nightmare unfold through social media, you feel so powerless. It’s paralysing. Considering our history and collective memory, it is Ireland's role as a neutral country to facilitate peace. We call on powerful countries to deliver an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life, to halt their support for these violent and senseless reprisals and to meaningfully address the root causes in accordance with international law.”
For over four decades Afri has been involved in opposing war, promoting food sovereignty and tackling climate change - working especially with Secondary and Third level students as well as with the general public. We organise the annual Famine Walk in Mayo, a Hedge School in TU Blanchardstown and Féile Bríde in Kildare. Thank you for continuing to support our work.
