I was skeptical of Godbound at first, seeing how I bounced of Gods of the Fallen, another RPG that has you playing as demigods in a shattered world. And yet. And yet! This book is amazing, not just because of the kind of game it allowed me to run or play in, but also for a whole lot of incredibly useful advice and tables that are system-agnostic and easily adoptable to other systems. Get the free PDF, use it, love it, then get deluxe one because there's even more ridiculous goodness in it!

This book is so underrated. It's one of the best RPG books I've ever purchased.

One of my favorite games. A demigod game that doesn't fall apart and allows one to truly explore what it might be like to be a young growing divinity.

I love all Kevin Crawford's works. This book takes the cake. I haven't found a group yet to play this but am trying to incorporate some of the ideas into my existing campaigns.

Same. I always recommend Stars Without Number for anybody wanting to run a sci-fi sandbox - not because of the system, which they may or may not like, but because of all the useful system-agnostic shit that can be used with literally any sci fi game.

I've been running a SWN campaign for a year now and my group loves it. It's one of the most successful RPG campaigns I've ever run.

I'm already running 3 games (2 D&D and 1 Stars Without Number) on Roll20 so my docket is full right now. Send me a PM on G+ and I'll reach out if I ever start a Godbound game.

Thank you very much for this video! This book is very huge and I got extremely overwhelmed after a while, but with your summary I now know what each part is about and can go flip flop between them for the informations that I want to read instead of being stuck reading linearly

"When your players are so strong, how do you make it interesting?" As someone who runs Exalted, this is a serious issue.

I ran a campaign about young gods rising to their full power. The players did revel throwing their power about, and that is one of the more enjoyable aspects to the idea, but it can get old. It took a while to come up with more interesting challenges. Throwing in moral dilemmas that could not be overcome by force spiced things up a bit. Mysteries to solve were also a useful tools. A player can't just throw his weight against a problem that they don't understand. One of the big keys was not to allow players to use their powers instead of good roleplaying to overcome every obstacle. We had a blast. I hope you do as well.

Try playing first edition of Scion, where the max level powers literally give you narrative control over the scene. Yes, that's right, your character is so powerful, that you temporarily become the Story Teller! If you want to say that your 12 Epic Strength character is able to hurl planets at people with one arm, they can actually do so. Or if you want to set the very concept of death itself on fire, that is also possible!

I downloaded and read through the PDF just after watching your review. I was impressed by the quality and potential, which this book offers. Not only in DMing a group via the Godbound system, but incorporating certain elements into other systems. The current D&D group I DM is not currently high enough level, but transitioning into a Godbound setting once epic level was reached (if it ever gets that far) could be a very interesting transition. Thank you again for an excellent review.

Tolkien's Undying Lands would be a good setting for this game, with the players as Maiar characters.

This is the perfect guide for a non d&d campaign I have had for a VERY long time. And there’s a free pdf that publishing company released on drive thru rpg. That is beyond amazing.

'I know words. I have the best words.' Some good words here too. I like these words and might use these words that I like. / I just reread Enuma Elish and this game book sounds like Marduk's guide to being Marduk. Nice looking game book with a solid format, setting, and rules. He does a couple things I really like and have been working into my slow developing game book as well.

    It looks really awesome.
I'm thinking on getting it physically, which is not a good sign when one needs to save up money.
Also a mark of good work. Thanks for making these reviews ^_^

Godbound is truly a god-tier game about extremely powerful characters.
Crawford is truly a god-tier TTRPG developer.

The combat system with Worthy foes is sort of how he had rules for "Heroic" gaming in Stars Without Number.

Ah, actually all enemies have Hit Dice instead of HP. Only Godbound and played mortals have HP.
It's just that high level monsters might have a lot of Hit Dice.

I am converting a running exalted 3rd edition game into this, it's mind blowing and it puts to shame the 659 pages of Exalted, I'm recycling the setting my favorite setting and mixing it with this rules, this will become my running game, and i hope it all goes well, onyx path / White wolf SUCK, they have created the best setting and gone full jar jar binks on the rules, they SUCK

Exalted is my favorite RPG setting. Can't stand the rules. I could deal with the 1E & 2E rules, though they weren't great. And I absolutely loved reading 3E... until I got to the combat section. The combat section was such a mess I stopped reading and lost all interest in playing. Since you've actually played it, is it as bad as it looks?

    • @antonioandre1529

To deal with 4 extras it took 4 dice pool rolls per attack with buckets of D10's systematic tables, with instructions to avoid flipping those 650 pages, charm cards printed and cut to make my 2 players more at ease, and still it took a wooping 4 HOURS!!!!!!! of this tremendous bullshit to get rid of 4 mooks way below exalted level. On the other hand a full blown battle with armies on Godbound with 5 players their soldiers and an oposing army and their commanders it took on fun filled hour! Don't even hesitate throw Exalted into the trash bin (remove the setting for nostalgic purpuses) and stick to God bound to adapt this into the full exalted setting is easy peasy to do with home brewed rules
