- From a tragic accident to forming an iconic band and reaching the heights of global touring!
Join me as I dive into the heart of metal history with my friend, the legendary guitarist David 'Rock' Feinstein. Discover how Rock joined forces with his cousin, the imcomparable Ronnie James Dio, shaping the sound of trailblazing bands like The Electric Elves and Elf, and hear the firsthand account of the harrowing accident that nearly ended the career of one of heavy metal's most revered voices.
In this exclusive conversation, Rock shares with us how he took his first steps towards music, the career-defining choices Dio presented him with, and why he had to take a radical break, deciding to live on a remote mountain without radio, telephones, or electricity.
Don't miss this deep dive into the annals of rock history - a story of music, friendship, and the moment that could have changed everything.
🎸David "Rock" Feinstein gained fame with The Electric Elves and Elf, bands that laid early heavy metal groundwork. A cousin to Ronnie James Dio, their collaboration significantly shaped rock music's evolution. Post-Elf, Feinstein embraced a harder rock sound with various band projects, including "Thunder" that we formed together, and he also launched a solo career, showcasing his versatile guitar skills. Rock’s contributions to the genre are marked by influential guitar riffs and a deep understanding of rock's power and melodicism, solidifying his status in music history. 🎸

Hail To Brother David and Hail To Master Joey!
Hail from Sicily, Italy!
I took notes to see if this is in the final.
Thank you for having history lessons on your channel.
So happy to see this interview. Rock is such an underrated hero of rock n roll and to see Joey pay such an homage to him to kick the interview off is an incredible sign of respect and character.
Looking forward to more.
Awesome interview, mate! Loving your current content stream. Really high quality interviews and videos, keep it coming! 🤘
thanks, Joe
What a pleasant surprise to see David Feinstein on your podcast!
I listen to his '78 Midnight Lady/Ship on a Stormy Sea EP quite often, because it truly rocks! Also it is one of those albums that you will inevitably gravitate to sooner or later, being a Manowar fan scavenging through earlier material from its members. It would be immensely interesting to hear from both of you some insights and stories from that period.
HAIL AND KILL!!!
Only 7:16 of interview? I was hoping to hear more from Rock. Let them eat metal is Awesome!!!!
I'm so happy to hear these stories and appreciate some of the things now because of your podcasts.
Seriously hooked in that interview already! Great chemistry and i really need to hear more about David, what an interesting guy
yes, there will be at least one more episode for sure
Another great interview! Thanks Joey ❤
Saw the rods supporting iron maiden at Hammersmith odeon. Sure it was number of the beast tour. Went straight out and bought the rods self titled album. Still listen 2 it 42 yrs later
Facts: these Saturday's episodes are the best part of the whole week, and I'm looking forward them. Why? Because I found out things I didn'n know, I listen storyes from behind the scene (even a sad one like today - the accident and lose they passed through), I can see interviews and competion like that of a few time ago, and I can hear memories that you share with us. It's the moment which "recharges my batteries" for the next week. It's a real pleasure to watch these and I can't wait the next ep. Thank you, Joey!
You said it best, Sister. Highlight of the week!

wow!!!
Just listened Dave Feinstein song Midnight Lady and it kicks ASS! Joey plays on that one
Thanks brother. I have great memories of those early days. We also had a great time playing in Thunder together- we’ll talk about that soon stay tuned
Based on the RODS half dozen albums, ROCK is a living legend. What an inspired period of time. They had the songs, the feel, the naturalness, unselfconsciousness, the riffs, the TONE, the songs. All those hours in the bars is what made these guy's so rich of a player. That depth is not found anywhere these days, or in the last several decades. Early 80's was a pinnacle. Digital hadn't yet ruined the world and the gear hadn't yet become a overly preamp gained mess (imo). I hope someone, someday, sits down with DAve and see if he recalls the gear he used on each of the Rods albums. I suspect the Self titled was a fender/musicman amp with a JR? and the other rods albums where old marshalls (late 60's? early 70's or late 70's models?). What speakers, what pickups and pedals. Suspect it was not many pedals but some boost is in there. An mxr microamp? for pickups, I hear all bridge. A mix of paf and p90 depending on the song. Let them eat metal album sounds all p90 though? One of the best half dozen albums for guitar tone those Rods vinyl ARE. Yes most of the tunes are in Aminor, and of a certain style, but what a key and what a style! the lead playing is outrageous. Page and eddie have nothing on Dave....Rods are still in heavy rotation 'round here. Thanks rock!
Very interesting interview. I would love to watch something like that with Jack Starr as a guest. Talking about the shows that Manowar and Virgin Steele shared together back in the 80s and about his Defiance album which was released by Magic Circle Music
What a treat! I saw the Rods at the Brooklyn Zoo. I snuck in the dressing room with my friend Kimo and hung out with the band. It was a magical night that I will never forget
Glad you chose what you chose Joey, but you would have been a damn good pro host for radio, tv, podcasts, sirius etc etc. Such a treat while waiting for the 2024 tour and the new album... and the new dates for the spoken word tour!
Back in the 80s, when people would ask me what Heavy Metal was, I would tell them to listen to “Violation” by The Rods.
Thanks Joey
Hope there’s a second part to this, would love to watch the whole thing.🤘🏻
You bet. Stay tuned
Midnight Lady and Ship on A Stormy Sea ! : ) Those two songs are great , I really enjoyed the first time i listened to them ! And this interview is something i think all of the fans were waiting! : )
Thank you brother. Appreciated. Tell your friends- much more coming
Yeah, that's the only time I've heard Joey play bass outside Manowar, you can hear his unique style even then.
I still remember finding that first Rods album, played it till the grooves wore out. Where's the whole interview
Meaningful content as always. Thank you for respecting our time.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Thank you for taking the time to do this Joey!
no problem he’s a cool guy. Every time I see him I can’t help but think of Ronnie Dio they look so much alike and act so much alike rock played guitar on the level and still does Ronnie would sing at.
Great interview, Joey! It will be amazing if you can do an interview with Jon Bon Jovi. I believe you can have a lot to talk about leading a band and the music business in general.
🔥🔥🔥
Thank you brother
I love the Rods, let them eat metal🔥
I am DYING to hear new Manowar songs!
