Manodharma is an intuitive exercise. It can be taught less but learnt more through listening and observing our Great Gurus. In this video I have tried to give a few simple ideas to catch the essence of Alapana and build over it through listening to various compositions and musicians. Best wishes
Another treasure trove of a tutorial on alapana. You have done an amazing job of teaching it through simple phrases that we have all learned from our early finger exercises through varnams. A year ago I would have been terribly afraid even to dream of attempting an alapana. But with the tools you have provided over time, I am a bit more courageous to give alapana a try - though I am still at the stage of baby steps! Thanks for thinking of creative ways in helping us explore Manodharma.
Manodharma, which is a creative exercise is very difficult to explain in simple terms. I have tried my best to bring it to the majority who struggle to get the concept. Hope it helps. Thanks for your comment
I just went through ur video fully and wrote the patterns first, and the alapana u played at the end of video is very easy to follow up also madam. No words to express.amazing mam. Can u do some more ragams also like this mam in future videos.its request only madam Later can u make tanam tutorial also mam
Wow, superb explanation. What a great guru you are, such good explanation for such complicated idea. So lucky to learn from you. 🙏🏽 These tutorials are like pearls and open for everyone to learn from it. 🙏🏽
Like I mentioned elsewhere, it is tough to put manodharma in a simple capsule. It is a vast topic and to bring it to a general easy understanding takes effort. Thanks Uma for your comment
Please teach us taanam madam if you don't mind this alapana class is very helpful to VEENA students like me thankyou soo much guruvu gaaru please don't mind typing mistakes mam my English is weak
Thank you so much Mam. You are excellent teacher. While I try to practice, my Veena I hear drag for 3 notes. But get very hard to create drag to hear at 4th notes and onwards. How do I improve that?
Very nicely explained🙏🙏it is a very useful video, I will definitely practice 🙏 I have a query - I can listen to a film song and play it on the veena without following the notation. This way, I have played many Bollywood songs on the veena. However , after a gap of maybe a month or so, if I try to play any of these Bollywood songs, I tend to make mistakes esp about the swara sthanas. One way to avoid making mistakes is to practice regularly -- but I am not able to practice all the songs that I know on a daily basis. So, when I sit down to play a certain song after a gap of time, I am making mistakes. Can you suggest any tip to avoid such mistakes other than daily / regular practice??
I have mentioned this in the topic on muscle memory. It takes 3 weeks of practice, for the brain to store things. And thereafter monthly practice.. If that is not possible, then write down the notations and keep. That will help in remembering

Nice explanation.how can we play R in G as we play P in G.please explain.
R in G will depend on the musical phrase, or the emotion you wish to convey. The Raga s grammar also matters as much as the creativity of the student.
👌🙏
Thank you
