Hi Catherine I love watching your videos you supply great information in easy steps. I found that i sprout Bells of Ireland seeds on wet paper towel, folded up and placed in a zip lock bag, then placed on a heat mat. Once sprouted I put the seed in seed potting mix and grow them on. Hi Marie, that’s interesting you put them on a heat mat in the bag. I had heard of putting them in a bag in the fridge but it didn’t work for me this year when I tried it so I will have a go next time with your tip with some bottom heat, thanks so much!

Your flowers are beautiful! I have had terrible luck with Bells of Ireland, but to my surprise I have about 10 plants looking good this year! My daffodils are about finished, and I’ve started cutting my peonies. (7b in GA, USA). Thanks, as always, for your video!
Hi Jeanne, you are definitely ahead of us with the peonies out. What is your favourite for cutting? Bells of Ireland are definitely not straight forward are they?! I am glad you have got your 10 great plants. I might try direct sowing some in the autumn outside, leaving them to it and see if that works better with varying outside temperatures x
To my knowledge, I have Red Sarah Bernhardt, Coral Sunset, Shirley Temple and Raspberry Sundae. I love them all! Yes, I’ll take the small victories when they come.
About the Bells, I’ve tried direct sowing in the fall as well as germinating in a wet paper towel in a baggie on a heat mat, then planting in cell trays.
I haven’t tried direct sowing in autumn I might give that a try, I have had a shot at the damp paper towel in a bag method but for some reason it didn’t work for me. Nothing like a good challenge!
Beautiful bulb show in your garden…I have grown cactus dahlias from seeds before and it turned out awesome and bloomed the first year…I am trying out for the first time this year blue globe thistle from seeds, bells of Ireland, feverfew, statice, Dara and Ammi Majus after watching yours…and a few others…I have winter sown them and they are doing great…our safe planting time is 2nd week in May so not long now!

Ours does vary but definitely at least the last week in May to be safe. The temperatures are right back down at night at the moment so we are a wee bit away from frost free days yet. Every thing looks lovely Catherine. I have very limited grow space, mainly pots and unhappily for me the squirrels decided my narcissus and tulip containers were fine dining. Every single bud and flower has been eaten or stripped. Even more annoying as I just bought a so called squirrel scarer. 😪 Maybe next year.
Oh no Susan, that is awful. I lost a few tulips in my pots to mice I think but to have lost the whole lot is so sad 🥲 I hope you can keep the squirrels away next year so you can enjoy some tulips and narcissi. My new thing this year is to try growing fruit and veg in pots as the beds I want to just keep for flowers so I have transplanted the strawberries, rasps and rhubarb out the middle of some of the flower patches and into pots. I have started some courgettes and tomatoes so far too.
@@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm Good luck with your fruit Catherine. I manage tomatoes and kale for the most part stick to that as I am quite exposed. The critters seem to get to every thing before I do and since space is so limited I do more flowers.
I know critters are frustrating! it’s usually the birds getting to the fruit first for me so I am hoping if it’s in pots I will keep an eye on it more and protect them or move them in the greenhouse at that stage.

Hi, your annuals will get off to a flying start now the days are warmer. My greenhouse isn’t heated either so I use a lot of fleece keeping the earlier seedlings covered if I need to at nights. I hope your daughter enjoys flower farming, it’s hard work but so rewarding 😊
They are my absolute favourite tulips! It will be interesting to see how we both get on with gomphrena this year. Are you growing any other new flowers this year from seed?
Thank you. My support netting has come from gardening naturally and Amazon over the years. It is pea and bean netting and the squares are 7”. My beds are 1m wide so I can cut the netting to size if it comes wider.

How long do you think it would take for a dahlia grown from seed to produce a marketable flower, or flowers.. I have never tried it. I assumed it would take a while?
I think it will take 4 months from sowing seed to getting flowers for me here in Scotland. Maybe a touch faster if we have a warm summer. Hopefully I will start to see them flowering in August.

I love the white fringed tulips! I am also trying gomphrena for the first time.
