In terms of possible Oscar noms, I wonder why Ryan did not include cinematography. The trailer looks gorgeous. That slo-mo bomb blast looks like it came straight out of a renaissance painting.
Idk if you'll read this but I'm returning from TIFF and I want to thank you for your videos, especially those where you predict the Oscar Winners very early on. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have watched The End, Saturday Night, Conclave and Queer at the festival
Fun fact: When you take all of the films that an actor or actress has appeared in and count the cumulative total number of Oscars won across all categories, Ralph Fiennes is the actor with the most Oscar winning filmography of all time (his films have won a combined 35 Oscars across various categories). Leonardo DiCaprio is right behind him with 33 wins for his films.
@@axr7149 Is that right? I don’t even know how someone figures that out, but that’s impressive. I would have assumed Leo DiCaprio would have beat him there. Cool fun fact though 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing!
I like the movie, especially Fiennes performance. I can see Fiennes winning, but not the movie. I like the intent of being inclusive, but the ending no spoilers went a little far. I also like that it admitted that popes have been flawed people in the past. I would not root for this to win, but I enjoyed it more than Dune 2 and Sing Sing.
I still think that the best film on the subject we are talking about is "The shoes of the Fisherman". I suggest watching it. RIP, Anthony Queen and Vittorio de Sica. But I will give Conclave a chance, for sure. Actors, director, writer of the novel is based on, writer of the dialogues.... are among the best ones can find.
This is the first video I see by you. I like your delivery.... you are demure, succinct, pleasant... I subscribed and look forward to more insights, maybe some rediscovery of older movies, obscure things and classic material..... very nice....
Can we talk about insane bad luck for Ralph Fiennes? He has been nominated only two times to date, both for films that DOMINATED the Oscars and win Best Picture in the 1990s (SCHINDLER'S LIST and THE ENGLISH PATIENT), and despite the sweeps, he does not come along for the ride either time! He also had a cameo in another Best Picture winner that also dominated (THE HURT LOCKER). Leonardo DiCaprio had a similar streak before his win too. He too appeared in 2 Best Picture winners (TITANIC and THE DEPARTED) that dominated the Oscars but didn't even get nominated for either one of those.
@@axr7149 The Schindler’s List loss will always surprise me. What also surprises me is that he wasn’t nominated for the Grand Budapest Hotel. The Academy LOVED that movie, but he didn’t go along for the ride? Strange.
Ryan offered me one of his gummy worms as we were waiting for it to begin. I said “no thanks, I’m okay”. Almost instant regret for that decision - haven’t had a gummy worm in like 10 years and couldn’t stop thinking about it lol. I agree with this review - Conclave has a surprising amount of humour, I loved the score and it works so well in this, and the third act surprise could’ve been handled better but it sure did make the audience react. Great film!
Good review Ryan. The book was a nonstop read, you HAD to finish it. I hope the movie comes close to that. The cliffhanger twist at the end will cause some controversy. What would happen next? The book needed another chapter as many things COULD happen. Sequel?
I actually think this is an incredibly important film in the way it explores the true meaning of faith and the power dynamics and prejudices displayed by so-called “men of God.” I hope this wins Best Adapted Screenplay, as I think this might be the tightest and most thrilling script of the entire year. Easily my favorite film of the entire festival. Glad to hear your thoughts on this one, Ryan!
An exciting movie about cardinals? This statement probably needs to be amended to: An exciting movie for those who are ignorant of the Catholic Faith about cardinals as they seem after being corrupted by modernism. Looked at in that light it is offensive to devout Catholics.
@@fabrisseterbrugghe8567 That’s interesting. My perspective is the opposite. The Church is hierarchical and authority is disseminated through those ranks in a logical order. I am reminded of the words of the Centurion that are said at every Mass with the Eucharist “Domine non sum dignus….”. The Centurion, though a pagan, recognized Jesus by his authority because the Centurion was a soldier and a “man under authority.” The danger comes when that authority which is timeless and supernatural Truth is corrupted by modernism which was called “the heresy of all heresies.”
@@monicamerle1417 I wish Edward Berger was around back then to adapt the DaVinci Code movies. And yeah. This is definitely an Oscar movie your entire family-especially parents will LOVE.

Conclave loved it. Fiennes was great the cast was great the setting was great. Thank you 😂❤

Thank you for that. Ralph has built a very prestige film career over his many years of acting, and this just confirms it.
Thank you Ryan. I always trust Tucci's film
I'm all in for seeing this movie to see Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci act together.

Conclave-Movie Review. The film features many familiar actors, and despite my aversion to organized religion, I am eager to watch it.

Since its is actually anti-Catholic propaganda I don’t think it is examining the “true meaning of faith”.
@@mystdragon8530 So basically you’re saying no one can have faith outside of being Catholic? 🤔
Looking forward to this one. Always looking for movies to root for. Don't have any ones to root for yet this year, at least Oscar wise.
Where can I stream it?
Not streamable yet. Comes out in theaters on Oct 24th.
a more entertaining Vatican movie than Angels & Demons?!? Surely you jest.
I am SO excited for this movie!!!!
Nice

Having lived in Cardinal Law's Boston, I'm more worried about authoritarianism than modernism.

I just showed my mom the trailer and she's sold. it looks much better than those DaVinci code awful movies.

Rayan casselman you surprise me the film funny and enertining
I was think the film so serious and drama
Thank you for review film❤👍

Conclave and Nosferatu are my most anticipated fall films
It's nothing new, just a new version of the old mith of popess Joan, the female pope. An ordinary anticatholic movie.
Hope it is better than the book
My goodness, this feels too spoilery for me
Yep, dumb film. Anti-Catholic propaganda with a crazy female being voted Pope.
