A Different Man - Review | A24 ALWAYS Delivers
it really feels like a first person POV ghost story of someone who's curiuos then gets tired of the family and turns on them but the scares being scene from HIS pov is a wild flip
oh snap u just droppin spoilers damn
L take initially. This movie is a masterpiece. Maybe you need therapy to recognize how in tune this film is with parenting, learning how to do so, and then finally letting go... "story is serviceable?" you need help I think you are emotionally stunted if you dont recognize how the "action scenes" really are based off of parenting/protecting something that needs protecting. Idk man, not gonna lie, I think you need to spend some time with your family and if you dont have one, its obvious.
Yes, the movie is good but... this review is pure exaggeration. It's not mind blowing as you're painting it to be.
Movie was brilliant
Cohn prosecuted But was NOT a prosecutor ! He was consigliare for the Five nyc family's
As of now, 'The Substance' is my favorite film of 2024, and Demi Moore gives the best performance of the year. Of course, I haven't seen some of the potential nominees, and some of those films haven't been released yet, but I absolutely loved this film. I've already seen it 4 times in the movie theater, and I continue to love it even more. I agree that the film really pushes it at the last 25 minutes of the film. I wanna say they could have toned it down, but at the same time, it's a body horror film. Maybe at the same time, it is necessary. I honestly wish it had a couple more scenes with Demi Moore's character and another scene with Dennis Quaid's character. The mirror scene with Elizabeth getting ready for a date is so relatable and heartbreaking. I feel as if some of us, if not, a large majority of us have been there before. So, yeah. This is a brilliant film! Fingers crossed that it'll do decent during the awards season.
Ralph
The Holdovers was shot on digital as far as I'm aware... They employed some tricks to make it convincing mimic film. Pretty sure.
I struggled to draw anything ‘substantial’ from The Substance. I left the viewing feeling like I'd just watched an elaborately produced bikini commercial. The film doesn't say anything particularly interesting about desire, beauty, age or femininity. It’s just a sexy bloodbath. I really detest films which shove lots of flesh down your throat, and then pretend to have some grand pretext for debauching your imagination. Like Lars Von Try-Hard: "This isn't porn - this is high art for a sophisticated audience." If you think otherwise, "you just don't understand women and how they need to be exploded on the screen for our amusement". That's so intellectual isn't it? 'The Substance' is a very close cousin of the 'X/Maxxxine' and Yorgos Lanthimos movies, which combine absolutely irrational scenarios, with a script that has been lifted from an 'Archie' comic. The fact that some of this film's most ardent critics are intelligent women, of all backgrounds, really says something too. It should make us think, rather than 'bandwagon'. If you look at Rodin's famous sculpture of the aging beauty, it says infinitely more about women and ageing, than this cheap sex-ploitation film. People talk about the music and the color saturation of this film - so what! Go to your local disco, if you want that. The West used to see the woman's body as something sacred, not a vehicle for exploitation and desecration, because of its capacity for natural and supernatural virtue. Look at Bernini's works, for example. Since 'Last Tango', filmmakers have taken to desecrating the woman's body, under the most insane pretexts...and everyone's lapping it up. I sat with my children and watched 'The Birds' recently, and the Tippi Hedren character is just gorgeous, in every way, without being seductive or debauched. She’s allowed to keep her clothes on, too. Is it really so hard to give females a decent role now? Maybe cinema is just full of dirty old perverts, who can’t rise above their carnal appetites? Maybe they assume their audience are all covert voyeurs, like themselves? Demi Moore was great in ‘One Crazy Summer’, because the director (Steve Holland) had her there for an intelligent purpose, other than cheap titillation and the farming of pubescent $exual desire (and he was a ‘patriarchal white male’ too, Miss Foraget). The majority of reviewers are mistaking this film for a piece of esoteric profundity, which only the 'enlightened' can appreciate. It's morally impossible for Hollywood to finance a film, which would decimate secular beauty standards, as immodesty $ells and gets back$ides on $eats. Its the foundation of their revenue. This is evident in the Q & A Conference for the film (or should I call it a T & A Conference)?: the director is wearing leather boots up to her pelvis, and the younger actress is wearing something resembling a skirt, which barely covers her posterior. This is really empowering for young girls too see - NOT. I’m absolutely certain that this film was produced to generate oodles of cash quickly, by promising lots of sensual satisfaction and bodily cruelty (a ruse shared by David Cronenberg). The men leaving the cinema will naturally be having adulterous thoughts about Marg, and the women will be be thinking about how they can look like Marg and Demi. This piece of polished trash will become a favorite at Stag parties, to be sure - not Women's Conferences. The film will contribute to the commodification of the woman's body, both legal and illegal. I can't be far off the scent, either - look at these professional reviews: “But for all its feminist diatribes, The Substance is still a movie that is 80 percent extreme close-ups of Margaret Qualley’s arse. In nearly every other scene, the camera lovingly pans over her spandex-clad exterior, in sequences that are shot like ‘90s Viagra commercials” (Inverse.com). "The Substance’s presentation is as shallow as the very thing it’s critiquing. There’s no compassion, and certainly no catharsis - just more hagsploitation and a sense of déjà vu." (Hannah Strong) "An overuse of stale horror conventions in an already predictable plot-combined with decades-old, thoroughly unchallenging ideas about women’s relationships to their bodies-leads to a film that claims to support its protagonist, while treating her like the butt of the joke at every turn...I will not deny that Margaret Qualley is great to look at, but Fargeat undermines her film’s satirical point by catering to the same male gaze that the script claims to despise so deeply. Fargeat isn’t quite sure what she wants to say about women’s relationships to their body and images of their body, so she falls back on simply showing us that Margaret Qualley is hot.” (Paste Magazine)
The movie was great hopefully its a part 2
Did not love the movie, but Garfield and especially Pugh give outstanding performances.
Roy Cohen was intoxicating in this film. Excellent directing and camera shots. Very accurate based on several documentary’s about Trumpty Dumpty life videos.
I thought this was a brilliant and amazingly shot film. Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong should be nominated without any doubt as their performances were subtle and at the same time, intense. Please, please, though - review Sebastian Stans's superb movie " A Different Man" . Absolutely unbelievable. Never seen a movie like it. And - he won The Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for that performance. Honestly - he has absolutely smashed it twice this year with two very award worthy performances. Your review was very well done by the way.
This movie is a fictionalized depiction.
Hubby and I really enjoyed this movie.
I broadly agree with much of the criticisms out there already directed towards this film commenting on the shallowness of the storytelling. There's a lot of window dressing that nod towards bigger ideas but It never delves further into any sort of character or social study, or failing that, because of it's muddled arc, you come away from it lacking a sense that the filmmaker had a concrete point of view they were expressing. What really stopped me from buying into it - I didn’t believe these characters would ever be in a room together. I felt it was dreadfully miscast and from the start I was struggling to buy into it. Barry K in particular, I’ve not been won over by him yet in anything I’ve seen. His performance in TBOI felt like a school drama show performance. The way he is in interviews is how he seems to play anything I’ve seen him in. So for me, the film was a glossy surface that fell flat. Broey Deschanel's channel does a great breakdown of how Saltburn is a pastiche of The Talented Mr Riply.
Conclave-Movie Review. The film features many familiar actors, and despite my aversion to organized religion, I am eager to watch it.
It's nothing new, just a new version of the old mith of popess Joan, the female pope. An ordinary anticatholic movie.
This is the best movie of 2024 so far. Funny, emotional, not overly gross, great message. Adams deserves not only a nomination for this role, but a win.
There is an amazing TV show with Sebastian Stan that was cancelled after one season called Kings. It's a modern retelling of the biblical tale of King David. If you guys haven't seen it you should check it out.
I like the movie, especially Fiennes performance. I can see Fiennes winning, but not the movie. I like the intent of being inclusive, but the ending no spoilers went a little far. I also like that it admitted that popes have been flawed people in the past. I would not root for this to win, but I enjoyed it more than Dune 2 and Sing Sing.
This looks like a cute movie but it should have been released on Hulu or Netflix it's too small of a movie to go to the theater to see 😂
Very well done. #! movie of the year👍👍
She is going to win every award for this.
I didn't know what to expect when I saw this film. When the film starts, they try to make Trump a sympatric character. I thought, here we go. They're making him someone to admire. I was wrong. The tone of the film shifts. It gets darker and darker as it goes on. The eerie soundtrack sets the tone. You start to dislike Donald Trump. You see him for the monster he really is. The movie ends on an ominous note. It's like a warning of what's to come.
Great impression 😂
Trump movie.
Roy was a Mob Lawyer ; not a Prosecutor.
THIS FILM IS AMAZING PLEASE WATCH IT!
Surprisingly very good film.
saw it last Friday and thought it was a masterpiece that talks from the past, about our present and just uses Trump as an example, as he's Cohn today, for many other Apprentices, worldwide. You can't really understand the events of the extreme right and neofascism spreading in the world today, unless you understand how its biggest mentor, got to be like he is. A necessary film and all three stars deserve Oscar consideration. It doesn't matter that Bakalova has a more limited role (in comparison), Beatrice Straight won the Oscar for a way more limited one.
You didn’t say the word “beautiful” nearly enough.
So I watched this film today and Liked it alot. I didnt have an issue connecting with the POV approach. genuinely my only drawback is that I didnt understand some of the archival footage. other than that great film and like you said aunjanue is the stand out
Brilliant movie The leading actors were superb. The USA is in the hands of villains both sides are crocked
May I just say WOO HOO to that beauty pagent queen with the million dollar smile!!! She watches and comments on movies as well. What a keeper. Subscribed.
👍🏼🩷😊
Duck L'Orange trying to block the release tells you all you need to know. He got this "bombastic personality" by becoming a Malignant Narcissist. Interesting that people are worshipping his sickness...
Jeremy Strong will be nominated for an oscar
Nice
Very interesting and thank you much. I’m learning the of the film and sounds just like him. Trump boy have evil essences about themselves like Donald. Eric I think is a lil more the criminal style like Donald. At 56 I’ve watch Donald many years and always seen him as a criminal gangster wanna be. Horrible man. I’m excited to go see the film. Again Thanks 🎉
this movie legit made me cry
Saw it. Great acting and cohesive storyline. I lived in walking distance from the Commodore Hotel when it was renovated and rebranded as the Hyatt Grand Central. I remember the controversy over the tax exemption Trump obtained. It was a nostalgia movie for me to watch.
Loved Saiorise Ronans' performance. Do not get why people found her character unlikable (outside of when drunk of course) but kind of weird movie too. Not sure whether she should win an Oscar for this performance, but should be nominated. I am watching Blitz on 10/26, so hopefully between the two, she gives a winning performance in one of them. That is what I am rooting for anyway.
The birth of that lingering orange felon fart.
Go listen to “Far Too Hard” by Dead or Alive. The song fits perfectly with the story of this movie.
Without spoiler is there cannibalism in the movie ? And are there ghosts or demons ?
Spoiler NO. Dude just fucking nuts. That literally all.
No
He spoke like that. Check the documentaries
I knew all this watch Fromtline documentary. The rape did happen read Ivankas book
I just saw it at NYFF. I love this film. One of my favorite films of the year. Everything from the cinematography, the score, costumes, production design and etc. I see it being a film that people talk about for years to come.
if this movie doesn't convince you to vote for kamala and leave your death cult, I don't know what will, I thank the god that doesn't exist that there are no trump cult trash maga-ots in my family
