Incidentally, the same applies to all softube channel strips: for the correct neutral behavior of the plug-in, so that it behaves the same as the original hardware in neutral settings and to be able to compare it correctly with another channel strip, you must set the Drive control to 5 and the Character control to the middle, which is very important! The lower frequencies are saturated the more you turn the knob to the left and the higher frequencies when you turn it to the right. But I don't want to be too negative, it was an interesting comparison anyway thanks for that! 🙏
Thanks for the reaction. The UAD certainly has the sound! I find the Softube more 'Sculptable' if you know what I mean, they can get pretty close though. But if you want instant color, uad is the way to go!
@@bernardschomaker531 Got it. If I want sculpture sound I use clean EQ and Compression like FabFilter or Sonnox. I only use those strips for character and nothing else. Softube for console one make sense but I don’t need another strip even that good. Spend so much on plugins this year man. Got to stop. 😅
If I may add, the American Class A is literally completely clean (I think this is mentioned in the manual) and the plugin won't add any harmonic content or character just by instantiating the plugin, you need to at least engage the drive if you want this to be a closer comparison. IMO between the drive character and amount you can get a wide variety of API flavours that sound just as good or better than the UAD version and with some of the other features like parallel compression, advanced metering etc make the Softube version way more versatile. However, if you care more about saving time than versatility, the UAD version is the way to go with absolutely no compromise in sound. And I also need to stop buying plugins 😂

Damn that UAD sounds so much better to me. I prefer Softube UI but it is to clean sounding.
