- A man has died after falling into the River Tawe in South Wales as three major incidents have been declared.
A multi-agency response has been triggered as rescuers battle to get to victims by helicopter and boat.
Major incidents have also been declared in Hereford and Worcester.
Storm Dennis has also meant the Environment Agency declared the highest number of flood warnings and alerts on a single day in England.

In the old days, thousands of men were employed to clear rivers and ditches so that water flowed freely. Now all the ditches are overgrown, shallow and blocked with litter. Also, in the past it rained all the time.
Back before the EU banned all member states from dredging.

That could be true but rain events are also getting heavier and more frequent.

When buying a house...Google the area for past flooding. You'd have to be mad or left without a choice to live there.
Smart
There’s a lot more decisions and circumstances than that
Good advice..
With all these recent floods I taken that into consideration
Most people only have limited choices.
"Didn't have time to move their cars".
Shame they didn't have any kind of forewarning about possible flooding....
IM STILL HERE BABY
Is this sarcasm? Cuz yeah they def did have plenty of warning lol
They had a good week, the storm was predicted along with areas, wind strength and precipitation and what rivers were expected to experience flooding

Many of these areas are built on former wetland, riparian land, marshland and peat.
They act as natural sponges in times of heavy rainfall but now they've been concreted over.
It is inevitable that flood waters will seek to flow there again.

How come, people remained unaware untill water flooded into town?
It's "wreak havoc", not "wreck havoc". Wreak means "to cause". Wreck means "to destroy". Havoc means "widespread destruction". If a storm could destroy widespread destruction, that would be a good thing.
If people's safety was a priority, the government would have put flood defences in place for areas at risk of flooding! There's no excuse for this!
