BASIC?! THAT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
I'd given up on clouds, but because of your tutorial, I'm going to try again. I was trying too hard to draw what my eye was seeing versus the shading, I was also leaving the paper white where I wanted white, but now I think I'll try this method. I finally understand! Thanks to Lisa's channel for sending me here, Lachrie. You're a great teacher! You should be on her podcast. If ever you do, let me know.
This is such a great tutorial! You've explained everything so perfectly!!
+Lachri Fine Art Very kind of you to say. Also, I have to thank you, your comment literally doubled the views on this video. You apparently have the magic touch. By the way, it's been incredible to witness how you've built your channel over the last two years, congratulations!
+Ryan O'Rourke - Artist I think it was because I shared it on all my social media pages and people kept resharing it. It got more reshares than my videos get haha! It's a great video!!
+Lachri Fine Art I had no idea, that is so kind of you! It seems Christmas came early for my channel. By the way, I hope you’re having a wonderful Christmas season!

I studied since 4 years of age. Became professional 48 years ago. The advent of digital-x,y,z, and photo patches kind of broke my heart. Watching a young man who can picture things in his mind, and create a realistic image by hand brings me a good feeling back. That such gifts are NOT being lost to history, & forgotten. Best of luck to you!!

Thanks for such great detailed instruction. I am NO artist, but I had a dream about clouds that I can't get out of my mind. This video really helped me understand that you have to keep working the layers, and even erasing, to get that nice soft blended look. I appreciate the tips about cross hatching, using the tissue paper, etc. Those are things non-artists wouldn't know. Thank you. This was a great lesson for a beginner.
This is really fantastic! Thankyou! I'm painting cloud and I study them a lot ad this technique is brilliant in analysing the structure - since the platonic solids exist in all nature. Thanks so much for this Ryan.
Absolutely brilliant! I am learning digital art, but I can apply your techniques to it just as easily, so I am going to work through all your videos!
Yes, that's a wonderful cloud. Every cloud should look like this!
Thanks, Ryan - I am taking an online drawing class and needed a storm cloud example. This is perfect! I have subscribed, and look forward to learning more.
I really enjoyed watching this. You didn't drag throughout, I didn't get board and wanted to see more. I will be following.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I had lots of problems getting my clouds right, but with your explanations I finally did it. You made my day, thanks again.
+Savah Weber Quite happy to hear it!
Excellent tutorial. So glad I found this. Thank you.
That is truly amazing, but unfortunately I work too linearly to be able to do this. To all of you who can do this, you are all amazing, and have a good day!
That was such a kind comment, I hope you find the linear tutorial you're looking for :)
Hi mate, I was just wondering what sorts of pencils did you use for this tutorial? 4B? HB? 2B?
Ryan O'Rourke - Artist Thanks for this vid i really needed it
I use a mechanical pencil, where if you use the standard pencil grip/hold, your lines come out to linearly. I can guess he was taught to hold his pencil in a different way to produce the soft and free lines. Even with a mechanical pencil, if I hold my pencil in the same manner he is, I can create the same type of lines.

Wonderful video! I just needed to know real quick how to draw a cloud and your thumbnail pic drew me in. Then when I saw that you were the creator of this video I was super happy because I already know what a fantastic artist you are. Thanks for sharing, it was very helpful.
Amazing!!! First time to draw a REAL clouds, and it turned out much better than I thought.
Amazing work and video. Very helpful as I journey into cloud drawing to add to my landscape and seascapes
Very beautiful!😍
Creating basic shapes in the cloud's foundation was such a good tip. It is a total game changer for me thanks!
+Jennifer Ikelman My pleasure! By the way, that method works with most everything, not just clouds :)
Super! Very well explained for a complete beginner like me. Thank you
Wow! That started out like nothing and became a really big storm!! Great tutorial and easy to understand!
I'm going to try this technique on a dream catcher drawing I'm doing for my neice. I already have a howling wolf in it and I'm pleased with it so far. I just hope I can do the sky an keep all of my contrast values in check. Thank you for this lesson.

At 2:46 the left-upper cloud looks like an angry, chubby ghost flexing.
Very useful, thank you :)

Amazing Lisa sent me to see this from her site. I’m so glad she did I learned a lot
Thank you Ryan!! So very helpful!! Found you on Lachri's site!!
Great video, its super helpful
Very nice work!
Holy crap what a beautiful person
Wow, one of the best art tutorials I have watched on UA-cam, and I have watched dozens! Thanks, Ryan! I plan to watch more. I would, however, like to know more about the pencils you used. Were they mostly increasing levels of B pencils? Did you use any charcoal pencils. Your cloud, as someone noted, could just float off the page!
Great video, thanks alot.
Wow - you are very talented!
Sounds easy, but it doesn't work if you have the drawing ability of a chicken
Thank you for you tutorial help a lot :D
Thanks that is very useful
Thank u for this tutorial.
I struggle with clouds so I am going to try this method, I do think it could work for me, thanks Ryan

Thank youu!!
Found you via Lachri Fine Art - annnnd now I'm binge watching your channel. Haha. This is fantastic!!! Thank you for the info!
+Courtney Herz Haha, Lisa always does fantastic work, and thank you! Welcome to the channel!
Yes, she does! And thanks! Happy to be here.
Amazing
I would REALLY like to know the # pencils you used or charcoal. I tried them all but I don't have anything that looks like the ending black you use. what was that? or does anyone else know?
The thing that gets me is while drawing from nature, in 3 min or less the cloud is a TOTALLY diff creature. Yre doing it from total imagination yet bc of the structural nature of clouds it really works. Maybe thinking about a method somewhere in between…much thanks!
I like your work
Thank you 🙏
Thakyou so much Ryan ,you are so helpfull
And you looks like thin James Arthur by the way ☺
Hey, thanks for your tutorial! Are u using graphit and charcoal or just graphit?
You are using a tissue to blend things? is it a normal colored pencil or a pastel to do it? thank you
Great bro
Thanks!
This is awesome dude, you explained things super easy. Have an awesome life man, you deserve it.
Very encouraging
Just one suggestion....
Please increase your commentary volume...or whatever you tell it
But otherwise...
The videos are superbbbbb...

An excellent video as others have said the sound could be improved and I was fascinated by the face in the cloud on the left side
Ty man
thx so much
Good jobs
I would like to know the the pencil you were using, it looked like charcoal.
This came out a day before my birthday
nice
Thank you.
I’m trying to do a 1 point perspective art and idk how to make a cloud for the back round.
I've been a somewhat decent artist my entire life and at 48 just finding out there is almost as much erasing as there is drawing to doing realistic scenes
